1Igitur,Therefore,si consurrexistis cum Christo:if you have risen together with Christ,quæ sursum sunt quærite,seek the things that are above,ubi Christus est in dextera Dei sedens:where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
2quæ sursum sunt sapite,Consider the things that are above,non quæ super terram.not the things that are upon the earth.
3Mortui enim estis,For you have died,et vita vestra est abscondita cum Christo in Deo.and so your life is hidden with Christ in God.
4Cum Christus apparuerit,When Christ,vita vestra:your life,tuncappears,et vos apparebitis cum ipso in gloria.then you also will appear with him in glory.
5Mortificate ergo membra vestra,Therefore, mortify your body,quæ sunt super terram:while it is upon the earth.fornicationem, immunditiam,For because of fornication,libidinem,impurity,concupiscentiam malam,lust, evil desires,et avaritiam,and avarice,quæ est simulacrorum servitus:which are a kind of service to idols,
6propter quæ venit ira Dei super filios incredulitatis:the wrath of God has overwhelmed the sons of unbelief.
7in quibus et vos ambulastis aliquando, cum viveretis in illis.You, too, walked in these things, in times past, when you were living among them.
8Nunc autem deponite et vos omnia:But now you must set aside all these things:iram,anger,indignationem,indignation,malitiam,malice,blasphemiam,blasphemy,turpem sermonem de ore vestro.and indecent speech from your mouth.
9Nolite mentiri invicem,Do not lie to one another.expoliantes vos veterem hominem cum actibus suis,Strip yourselves of the old man, with his deeds,
10et induentes novum eum,and clothe yourself with the new man,qui renovatur in agnitionem secundum imaginem ejus qui creavit illum:who has been renewed by knowledge, in accord with the image of the One who created him,
11ubi non est gentilis et Judæus,where there is neither Gentile nor Jew,circumcisio et præputium,circumcision nor uncircumcision,Barbarus et Scytha,Barbarian nor Scythian,servus et liber:servant nor free.sed omnia,Instead,et in omnibus Christus.Christ is everything, in everyone.
12Induite vos ergo,Therefore,sicut electi Dei,clothe yourselves like the elect of God:sancti,holyet dilecti,and beloved,viscera misericordiæ,with hearts of mercy,benignitatem,kindness,humilitatem,humility,modestiam,modesty,patientiam:and patience.
13supportantes invicem,Support one another,et donantes vobismetipsis si quis adversus aliquem habet querelam:and,sicutif anyone has a complaint against another,et Dominus donavit vobis,forgive one another.itaFor just as the Lord has forgiven you,et vos.so also must you do.
14Super omnia autem hæc, caritatem habete,And above all these things have charity,quod est vinculum perfectionis:which is the bond of perfection.
15et pax Christi exsultet in cordibus vestris,And let the peace of Christ lift up your hearts.in qua et vocati estis in uno corpore:For in this peace, you have been called, as one body.et grati estote.And be thankful.
16Verbum Christi habitet in vobis abundanter,Let the word of Christ live in you in abundance,in omni sapientia,with all wisdom,docentes,teachinget commonentes vosmetipsos,and correcting one another,psalmis,with psalms,hymnis,hymns,et canticis spiritualibus,and spiritual canticles,in gratia cantantes in cordibus vestris Deo.singing to God with the grace in your hearts.
17Omne,Let everything whatsoever that you do,quodcumque facitis in verbo aut in opere,whether in word or in deed,omnia in nomine Domini Jesu Christi,be done all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,gratias agentes Deo et Patri per ipsum.giving thanks to God the Father through him.
18Mulieres, subditæ estote viris,Wives, be submissive to your husbands,sicut oportet, in Domino.as is proper in the Lord.
19Viri,Husbands,diligite uxores vestras,love your wives,et nolite amari esse ad illas.and do not be bitter toward them.
20Filii,Children,obedite parentibus per omnia:obey your parents in all things.hoc enim placitum est in Domino.For this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
21Patres,Fathers,nolite ad indignationem provocare filios vestros,do not provoke your children to indignation,ut non pusillo animo fiant.lest they lose heart.
22Servi,Servants,obedite per omnia dominis carnalibus,obey, in all things, your lords according to the flesh,non ad oculum servientes,not serving only when seen,quasi hominibus placentes, sed in simplicitate cordis,as if to please men, but serving in simplicity of heart,timentes Deum.fearing God.
23Quodcumque facitis,Whatever you do,ex animo operamini sicut Domino,do it from the heart, as for the Lord,et non hominibus:and not for men.
24scientes quod a Domino accipietis retributionem hæreditatis.For you know that you will receive from the Lord the repayment of an inheritance.Domino Christo servite.Serve Christ the Lord.
25Qui enim injuriam facit, recipiet id quod inique gessit:For whoever causes injury shall be repaid for what he has wrongfully done.et non est personarum acceptio apud Deum.And there no favoritism with God.
