1Tu autem loquere quæ decent sanam doctrinam:But you are to speak the things that befit sound doctrine.
2senes ut sobrii sint,Old men should be sober,pudici,chaste,prudentes,prudent,sani in fide,sound in faith,in dilectione,in love,in patientia:in patience.
3anus similiter in habitu sancto,Old women, similarly, should be in holy attire,non criminatrices,not false accusers,non multo vino servientes,not given to much wine,bene docentes:teaching well,
4ut prudentiam doceant adolescentulas,so that they may teach prudence to the young women,ut viros suos ament,so that they may love their husbands,filios suos diligant,love their children,
5prudentes,be sensible,castas,chaste,sobrias,restrained,domus curam habentes,have concern for the household,benignas,be kind,subditas viris suis,be subordinate to their husbands:ut non blasphemetur verbum Dei.so that the Word of God may be not blasphemed.
6Juvenes similiter hortare ut sobrii sint.Exhort young men similarly, so that they may show self-restraint.
7In omnibus teipsum præbe exemplum bonorum operum,In all things, present yourself as an example of good works:in doctrina,in doctrine,in integritate,with integrity,in gravitate,with seriousness,
8verbum sanum,with sound words,irreprehensibile:irreproachably,ut is qui ex adverso est, vereatur, nihil habens malum dicere de nobis.so that he who is an opponent may dread that he has nothing evil to say about us.
9Servos dominis suis subditos esse,Exhort servants to be submissive to their masters,in omnibus placentes,in all things pleasing,non contradicentes,not contradicting,
10non fraudantes,not cheating,sed in omnibus fidem bonam ostendentes:but in all things showing good fidelity,ut doctrinam Salvatoris nostri Dei ornent in omnibus.so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
11Apparuit enim gratia Dei Salvatoris nostri omnibus hominibus,For the grace of God our Savior has appeared to all men,
12erudiens nos, ut abnegantes impietatem, et sæcularia desideria, sobrie, et juste, et pie vivamus in hoc sæculo,instructing us to reject impiety and worldly desires, so that we may live soberly and justly and piously in this age,
13exspectantes beatam spem,looking forward to the blessed hopeet adventum gloriæ magni Dei,and the advent of the glory of the great Godet Salvatoris nostri Jesu Christi:and of our Savior Jesus Christ.
14qui dedit semetipsum pro nobis,He gave himself for our sake,ut nos redimeret ab omni iniquitate,so that he might redeem us from all iniquity,et mundaret sibi populum acceptabilem,and might cleanse for himself an acceptable people,sectatorem bonorum operum.pursuers of good works.
15Hæc loquere,Speaket exhortare,and exhortet argue cum omni imperio.and argue these things with all authority.Nemo te contemnat.Let no one despise you.
