Et venit unus de septem angelis,And one of the seven Angels, qui habebant septem phialas, those who hold the seven bowls,et locutus est mecum, approached and spoke with me,dicens:saying:Veni,“Come, ostendam tibi damnationem meretricis magnæ,I will show you the condemnation of the great harlot,quæ sedet super aquas multas, who sits upon many waters.
cum qua fornicati sunt reges terræ,With her, the kings of the earth have fornicated.et inebriati sunt qui inhabitant terram de vino prostitutionis ejus. And those who inhabit the earth have been inebriated by the wine of her prostitution.”
Et abstulit me in spiritu in desertum. And he carried me away in spirit to the desert.Et vidi mulierem sedentem super bestiam coccineam,And I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet beast, plenam nominibus blasphemiæ,filled with names of blasphemy, habentem capita septem, having seven headset cornua decem.and ten horns.
Et mulier erat circumdata purpura,And the woman was clothed all around with purpleet coccino, and scarlet,et inaurata auro, and adorned with goldet lapide pretioso, and precious stoneset margaritis, and pearls, habens poculum aureum in manu sua, holding a golden cup in her hand, plenum abominatione, filled with the abominationet immunditia fornicationis ejus.and with the filth of her fornication.
Et in fronte ejus nomen scriptum:And a name was written upon her forehead:Mysterium:Mystery,Babylon magna,Babylon the great, mater fornicationum, the mother of the fornicationset abominationum terræ.and the abominations of the earth.
Et vidi mulierem ebriam de sanguine sanctorum, et de sanguine martyrum Jesu. And I saw that the woman was inebriated from the blood of the saints and from the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.Et miratus sum cum vidissem illam admiratione magna. And I was amazed, when I had seen her, with a great wonder.
Et dixit mihi angelus:And the Angel said to me:Quare miraris?“Why do you wonder?ego dicam tibi sacramentum mulieris,I will tell you the mystery of the woman,et bestiæ, quæ portat eam,and of the beast that carries her,quæ habet capita septem, et cornua decem.which has seven heads and ten horns.
Bestia, quam vidisti, fuit,The beast that you saw,et non est, was, and is not,et ascensura est de abysso, and is soon to ascend from the abyss.et in interitum ibit:And he goes forth unto destruction.et mirabuntur inhabitantes terram (quorum non sunt scripta nomina in libro vitæ a constitutione mundi) videntes bestiam, quæ erat, et non est.And the inhabitants upon the earth (those whose names have not been written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world) shall be amazed upon seeing the beast who was and is not.
Et hic est sensus, qui habet sapientiam. And this is for one who understands, who has wisdom:Septem capita, septem montes sunt, the seven heads are seven mountains, super quos mulier sedet, upon which the woman sits,et reges septem sunt.and they are seven kings.
Quinque ceciderunt,Five have fallen, unus est,one is,et alius nondum venit:and the other has not yet arrived.et cum venerit,And when he arrives, oportet illum breve tempus manere.he must remain for a brief time.
Et bestia, quæ erat,And the beast who was,et non est:and is not,et ipsa octava est:the same is also the eighth,et de septem est,and he is of the seven,et in interitum vadit.and he goes forth unto destruction.
Et decem cornua, quæ vidisti, decem reges sunt: qui regnum nondum acceperunt, sed potestatem tamquam reges una hora accipient post bestiam. And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings; these have not yet received a kingdom, but they shall receive authority, as if they were kings, for one hour, after the beast.
Hi unum consilium habent,These hold to one plan,et virtutem, and they shall hand over their poweret potestatem suam bestiæ tradent.and authority to the beast.
Hi cum Agno pugnabunt,These shall fight against the Lamb,et Agnus vincet illos:and the Lamb shall conquer them.quoniam Dominus dominorum est, et Rex regum,For he is the Lord of lords and the King of kings.et qui cum illo sunt, vocati,And those who are with him are called, electi, and chosen,et fideles.and faithful.”
Et dixit mihi:And he said to me:Aquæ,“The waters that you saw, quas vidisti ubi meretrix sedet, where the harlot sits, populi sunt, are peopleset gentes, and nationset linguæ.and languages.
Et decem cornua, quæ vidisti in bestia:And the ten horns that you saw on the beast,hi odient fornicariam, these shall hate the woman who fornicates,et desolatam facient illam, et nudam, and they shall make her desolate and naked,et carnes ejus manducabunt, et ipsam igni concremabunt.and they shall chew her flesh, and they shall burn her completely with fire.
Deus enim dedit in corda eorum ut faciant quod placitum est illi:For God has granted to their hearts that they may do to her whatever is pleasing,ut dent regnum suum bestiæ donec consummentur verba Dei.so that they may give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God may be completed.
Et mulier, quam vidisti, est civitas magna,And the woman that you saw is the great City,quæ habet regnum super reges terræ.which holds a kingdom above that of the kings of the earth.”
