Et angelo ecclesiæ Sardis scribe:“And to the Angel of the Church of Sardis write:Hæc dicit qui habet septem spiritus Dei,Thus says he who has the seven spirits of Godet septem stellas:and the seven stars:Scio opera tua,I know your works, quia nomen habes quod vivas, that you have a name which is alive,et mortuus es.but you are dead.

Esto vigilans,Be vigilant,et confirma cetera, and confirm the things that remain,quæ moritura erant.lest they soon die out.Non enim invenio opera tua plena coram Deo meo.For I do not find your works to be full in the sight of my God.

In mente ergo habe qualiter acceperis,Therefore,et audieris, keep in mind the way that you have received and heard,et serva, and then observe it and repent.et pœnitentiam age.But if you will not be vigilant,Si ergo non vigilaveris,I will come to you like a thief, veniam ad te tamquam fur et nescies qua hora veniam ad te.and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.

Sed habes pauca nomina in Sardis qui non inquinaverunt vestimenta sua:But you have a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their garments.et ambulabunt mecum in albis,And these shall walk with me in white, quia digni sunt.because they are worthy.

Qui vicerit,Whoever prevails, sic vestietur vestimentis albis,so shall he be clothed in white vestments.et non delebo nomen ejus de libro vitæ,And I will not delete his name from the Book of Life.et confitebor nomen ejus coram Patre meo,And I will confess his name in the presence of my Fatheret coram angelis ejus.and in the presence of his Angels.

quoniam servasti verbum patientiæ meæ,Since you have kept the word of my patient endurance,et ego servabo te ab hora tentationis,I also will keep you from the hour of temptation,quæ ventura est in orbem universum tentare habitantes in terra.which shall overcome the whole world in order to test those living upon the earth.

Ecce venio cito:Behold, I am approaching quickly.tene quod habes,Hold on to what you have,ut nemo accipiat coronam tuam.so that no one may take your crown.

Qui vicerit,Whoever prevails, faciam illum columnam in templo Dei mei,I will set him as a column in the temple of my God,et foras non egredietur amplius:and he shall not depart from it anymore.et scribam super eum nomen Dei mei,And I will write upon him the name of my God,et nomen civitatis Dei mei novæ Jerusalem, and the name of the city of my God,quæ descendit de cælo a Deo meo,the new Jerusalem that descends out of heaven from my God,et nomen meum novum.and my new name.

Scio opera tua:I know your works:quia neque frigidus es,that you are neither cold, neque calidus:nor hot.utinam frigidus esses,I wish that you were either coldaut calidus:or hot.

sed quia tepidus es,But because you are lukewarmet nec frigidus, and are neither coldnec calidus, nor hot, incipiam te evomere ex ore meo:I will begin to vomit you out of my mouth.

quia dicis:For you declare,Quod dives sum,‘I am wealthy,et locupletatus,and I have been enriched further,et nullius egeo:and I have need of nothing.’et nescis quia tu es miser,And you do not know that you are wretched,et miserabilis,and miserable,et pauper,and poor,et cæcus,and blind,et nudus.and naked.

Qui vicerit,Whoever prevails, dabo ei sedere mecum in throno meo:I will grant to him to sit with me on my throne, sicut et ego vici, just as I also have overcomeet sedi cum Patre meo in throno ejus.and have sat down with my Father on his throne.
