Cognoscite hodie quæ ignorant filii vestri,Acknowledge, on this day, the things that your sons did not know.qui non viderunt disciplinam Domini Dei vestri,For they did not see the chastisements of the Lord your God,magnalia ejus et robustam manum,his great acts, and powerful hand,extentumque brachium,and outstretched arm,

signa et opera quæ fecit in medio Ægypti Pharaoni regi,the signs and works that he did in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh,et universæ terræ ejus,the king, and to his entire land,

omnique exercitui Ægyptiorum,and to the entire army of the Egyptians,et equis ac curribus:and to their horses and chariots:quomodo operuerint eos aquæ maris Rubri,how the waters of the Red Sea covered them as they were pursuing you,cum vos persequerentur,and how the Lord wiped them away,et deleverit eos Dominus usque in præsentem diem:even to the present day;

vobisque quæ fecerit in solitudine donec veniretis ad hunc locum:and the things that he accomplished for you in the wilderness, until you arrived at this place;

et Dathan atque Abiron filiis Eliab,and to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab,qui fuit filius Ruben:who was the son of Reuben,quos aperto ore suo terra absorbuit,those whom the earth, opening its mouth,cum domibus et tabernaculis,engulfed with their households and tents,et universa substantia eorum, quam habebant in medio Israël.and with their entire substance which they had in the midst of Israel.

Terra enim,For the land,ad quam ingrederis possidendam,which you shall enter and possess,non est sicut terra Ægypti,is not like the land of Egypt,de qua existi,from which you departed, where,ubi jacto semine in hortorum morem aquæ ducuntur irriguæ:when seed has been sown, waters are brought in by irrigation, in the manner of gardens.

sed montuosa estRather,et campestris,it has mountainous regions and plains,de cælo expectans pluvias,which lay waiting for rain from heaven.

quam Dominus Deus tuus semper invisit,And the Lord your God always visits it,et oculi illius in ea sunt a principio anni usque ad finem ejus.and his eyes are upon it, from the beginning of the year, all the way to its end.

fœnumque ex agris ad pascenda jumenta,and your hay from the fields in order to feed your cattle,et ut ipsi comedatis ac saturemini.and so that you yourselves may eat and be satisfied.

iratusque Dominus claudat cælum,And the Lord, becoming angry, might close up heaven,et pluviæ non descendant,so that the rain would not descend,nec terra det germen suum,nor would the earth produce her seedlings,pereatisque velociter de terra optima,and then you would quickly perish from the excellent land,quam Dominus daturus est vobis.which the Lord will give to you.

Ponite hæc verba mea in cordibus et in animis vestris,Place these words of mine in your hearts and minds,et suspendite ea pro signo in manibus,and hang them as a sign on your hands,et inter oculos vestros collocate.and arrange them between your eyes.

Docete filios vestros ut illa meditentur:Teach your sons to meditate on them,quando sederis in domo tua,when you sit in your house,et ambulaveris in via,and when you walk along the way,et accubueris atque surrexeris.and when you lie down or rise up.

Scribes ea super postes et januas domus tuæ,You shall write them upon the doorposts and the gates of your house,

ut multiplicentur dies tui,so that your days may be multiplied,et filiorum tuorum in terra,and the days of your sons,quam juravit Dominus patribus tuis,in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers,ut daret eis quamdiu cælum imminet terræ.that he would give it to them for as long as heaven is suspended above the earth.

disperdet Dominus omnes gentes istas ante faciem vestram,the Lord will scatter all these nations before your face,et possidebitis eas,and you shall possess them,quæ majores et fortiores vobis sunt.though they are greater and stronger than you.

Omnis locus,Every place upon which your foot shall tread will be yours.quem calcaverit pes vester,From the desert,vester erit.and from Lebanon,A deserto,from the great river Euphrates,et a Libano,as far as the western sea,a flumine magno Euphrate usque ad mare occidentale erunt termini vestri.shall be your borders.

Nullus stabit contra vos:No one will stand against you.terrorem vestrum et formidinem dabit Dominus Deus vester super omnem terram quam calcaturi estis,The Lord your God will spread the terror and dread of you over all the land upon which you shall tread,sicut locutus est vobis.just as he has spoken to you.

Cum vero introduxerit te Dominus Deus tuus in terram,Yet truly, when the Lord your God will have led you into the land,ad quam pergis habitandam,to which you are traveling for a habitation,pones benedictionem super montem Garizim,you shall place the blessing upon Mount Gerizim,maledictionem super montem Hebal:the curse upon Mount Ebal,

qui sunt trans Jordanem,which are across the Jordan,post viam quæ vergit ad solis occubitum in terra Chananæi,behind the way which slopes toward the setting of the sun,qui habitat in campestribus contra Galgalam,in the land of the Canaanite,quæ est juxta vallem tendentemwho lives in the plains opposite Gilgal,et intrantem procul.which is near the valley extending toward and entering a distant place.

Vos enim transibitis Jordanem,For you shall cross over the Jordan,ut possideatis terram quam Dominus Deus vester daturus est vobis,so that you may possess the land which the Lord your God will give you,ut habeatis et possideatis illam.so that you may have it and possess it.
