Filii tui et filiæ tuæ tradantur alteri populo,May your sons and your daughters be handed over to another people, videntibus oculis tuis, et deficientibus ad conspectum eorum tota die,as your eyes watch and languish at the sight of them throughout the day,et non sit fortitudo in manu tua.and may there be no strength in your hand.
Fructus terræ tuæ, et omnes labores tuos, comedat populus quem ignoras:May a people you do not know eat the fruits of your land and of all your labors.et sis semper calumniam sustinens, et oppressus cunctis diebus,And may you continually suffer from slander and oppression every day.

Ducet te Dominus, et regem tuum,May the Lord lead you and your king, quem constitueris super te,whom you will have appointed over yourself,in gentem, quam ignoras tu et patres tui:into a nation which you and your fathers have not known.et servies ibi diis alienis,And there you will serve foreign gods, ligno et lapidi.of wood and of stone.
Et eris perditus in proverbium ac fabulam omnibus populis, ad quos te introduxerit Dominus. And you will become nothing but a proverb and a fable to all the peoples to whom the Lord will lead you.
Sementem multam jacies in terram,You will sow much seed upon the ground,et modicum congregabis:but you will harvest little.quia locustæ devorabunt omnia. For the locusts will devour everything.
Vineam plantabis,You will diget fodies:and plant a vineyard,et vinum non bibes, but you will not drink the wine, nec colliges ex ea quippiam:nor gather anything at all from it.quoniam vastabitur vermibus. For it will be devastated by worms.
Olivas habebis in omnibus terminis tuis,You will have olive trees in all your borders,et non ungeris oleo:but you will not be anointed with the oil.quia defluent,For the olives will fall offet peribunt.and perish.
Filios generabis et filias,You will conceive sons and daughters,et non frueris eis:and you will not enjoy them.quoniam ducentur in captivitatem. For they will be led into captivity.
Omnes arbores tuasRot will consume all the trees,et fruges terræ tuæ rubigo consumet.as well as the fruits of your land.

Ipse fœnerabit tibi,He will lend to you,et tu non fœnerabis ei.and you will not lend to him.Ipse erit in caput,He will be as the head,et tu eris in caudam.and you will be as the tail.
Et venient super te omnes maledictiones istæ,And all these curses shall come to you,et persequentes apprehendent te,and shall pursue you, donec intereas:and shall take hold of you, quia non audisti vocem Domini Dei tui, until you pass away, nec servasti mandata ejusbecause you would not listen to the voice of the Lord your God,et cæremonias, and you would not serve his commandments and ceremonies, quas præcepit tibi.which he has instructed to you.
Et erunt in te signaAnd there will be the signs and portents with you, atque prodigia, and with your offspring,et in semine tuo usque in sempiternum:forever.
eo quod non servieris Domino Deo tuo in gaudio,Because you did not serve the Lord your God,cordisque lætitia, with gladness and a joyful heart, propter rerum omnium abundantiam.over the abundance of all things.
Servies inimico tuo,You will serve your enemy, quem immittet tibi Dominus, whom the Lord will send to you,in fame,in hungeret siti, and thirstet nuditate, and nakedness,et omni penuria:and in destitution of all things.et ponet jugum ferreum super cervicem tuam,And he will place an iron yoke upon your neck, donec te conterat.until he has crushed you.
Adducet Dominus super te gentem de longinquo,The Lord will lead over you a nation from far away,et de extremis terræ finibus in similitudinem aquilæ volantis cum impetu, even from the furthest parts of the earth, like an eagle flying with great force, cujus linguam intelligere non possis:whose language you are not able to understand:
gentem procacissimam,a very insolent nation,quæ non deferat seni, which will show no deference to elders, nec misereatur parvuli, nor take pity on little ones.
et devoret fructum jumentorum tuorum,And he will devour the fruit of your cattle,ac fruges terræ tuæ:and the fruits of your land, donec intereas, until you have passed away,et non relinquat tibi triticum, without leaving behind you wheat, vinum,or wine,et oleum,or oil, armenta boum,or herds of oxen,et greges ovium:or flocks of sheep:donec te disperdat, until he utterly destroys you.
et conterat in cunctis urbibus tuis,And he will crush you in all your cities.et destruantur muri tui firmiAnd your strong and lofty walls, atque sublimes,in which you trusted,in quibus habebas fiduciam in omni terra tua.will be destroyed throughout all your land.Obsideberis intra portas tuas in omni terra tua,You will be besieged within your gates throughout all your land, quam dabit tibi Dominus Deus tuus:which the Lord your God will give to you.
et comedes fructum uteri tui,And you will eat the fruit of your womb,et carnes filiorum tuorum et filiarum tuarum, and the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, quas dederit tibi Dominus Deus tuus, which the Lord your God will give to you,in angustia et vastitate qua opprimet te hostis tuus.due to the anguish and devastation with which your enemy will oppress you.
Homo delicatus in te, et luxuriosus valde, invidebit fratri suo,The man who is pampered and very self-indulgent among you will vie with his own brother,et uxori, quæ cubat in sinu suo,and with the wife who lies at his bosom,
ne det eis de carnibus filiorum suorum, lest he give to them from the flesh of his sons, quas comedet:which he will eat.eo quod nihil aliud habeat in obsidione et penuria,For he has nothing else due to the siege and the destitution, qua vastaverint te inimici tui intra omnes portas tuas.with which your enemies will devastate you within all your gates.
Tenera mulier et delicata,The tender and pampered woman,quæ super terram ingredi non valebat, who would not walk upon the soil, nec pedis vestigium figere, propter mollitiem et teneritudinem nimiam, nor step firmly with her foot due to her very great softness and tenderness, invidebit viro suo, will vie with her husband, qui cubat in sinu ejus, who lies at her bosom, super filii et filiæ carnibus, over the flesh of son and of daughter,
et illuvie secundarum, and over the filth of the afterbirth,quæ egrediuntur de medio feminum ejus, which goes forth from between her thighs,et super liberis qui eadem hora nati sunt.and over the children who are born in the same hour.Comedent enim eos clam propter rerum omnium penuriam in obsidioneFor they will eat them secretly,et vastitate, due to the scarcity of all things during the siege and the devastation, qua opprimet te inimicus tuus intra portas tuas.with which your enemy will oppress you within your gates.
Nisi custodieris et feceris omnia verba legis hujus,If you will not keep and do all the words of this law,quæ scripta sunt in hoc volumine, which have been written in this volume,et timueris nomen ejus gloriosum et terribile, and fear his glorious and terrible name, hoc est, that is,Dominum Deum tuum:the Lord your God,
augebit Dominus plagas tuas, then the Lord will increase your plagues,et plagas seminis tui,and the plagues of your offspring, plagas magnas et perseverantes, plagues great and long-lasting,infirmitates pessimas et perpetuas:infirmities very grievous and continuous.
et convertet in te omnes afflictiones Ægypti,And he will turn back upon you all the afflictions of Egypt, quas timuisti, which you fear,et adhærebunt tibi.and these will cling to you.
Insuper et universos languores,In addition,et plagas, quæ non sunt scriptæ in volumine legis hujus, inducet Dominus super te,the Lord will lead over you all the diseases and plagues that are not written in the volume of this law, donec te conterat:until he crushes you.
et remanebitis pauci numero,And you will remain few in number, qui prius eratis sicut astra cæli præ multitudine, though you were before like the stars of heaven in multitude, quoniam non audisti vocem Domini Dei tui.because you would not listen to the voice of the Lord your God.
Et sicut ante lætatus est Dominus super vos,And just as before, bene vobis faciens, when the Lord rejoiced over you, vosque multiplicans:doing good for you and multiplying you,sic lætabitur disperdens vosso shall he rejoice, atque subvertens, scattering and overturning you,ut auferamini de terra,so as to take you away from the land,ad quam ingredieris possidendam.which you shall enter in order to possess.
Disperget te Dominus in omnes populos,The Lord will disperse you among all the peoples,a summitate terræ usque ad terminos ejus:from the heights of the earth to its furthest limits.et servies ibi diis alienis, quos et tu ignoras et patres tui,And there you will serve foreign gods of wood and of stone, lignis et lapidibus.which you and your fathers did not know.
In gentibus quoque illis non quiesces,Similarly, you will not have tranquility, even within those nations, neque erit requies vestigio pedis tui.nor will there be any rest for the steps of your feet.Dabit enim tibi Dominus ibi cor pavidum, et deficientes oculos,For the Lord will give to you in that place a fearful heart, and failing eyes,et animam consumptam mœrore:and a life consumed with grieving.
et erit vita tua quasi pendens ante te.And your life will be as if it were hanging before you.Timebis nocte et die,You will be afraid night and day,et non credes vitæ tuæ.and you will not have confidence in your own life.
Mane dices: Quis mihi det vesperum? In the morning you will say, ‘Who will grant evening to me?’et vespere:and at evening,Quis mihi det mane?‘Who will grant morning to me?’propter cordis tui formidinem, qua terreberis, because of the dread of your heart, with which you will be terrified,et propter ea, quæ tuis videbis oculis.and because of those things that you will see with your eyes.
Reducet te Dominus classibus in Ægyptum per viam de qua dixit tibi ut eam amplius non videres. The Lord will lead you back into Egypt with a fleet of ships, along the way, about which he said to you that you would not see it again.Ibi venderis inimicis tuis in servos et ancillas,In that place, you will be put up for sale as men and women servants to your enemies,et non erit qui emat.but there will be no one willing to buy you.”
