Cum introduxerit te Dominus Deus tuus in terram,“When the Lord your God will have led you to the land, quam possessurus ingrederis, which you will enter so as to possess it,et deleverit gentes multas coram te,and when he will have destroyed many nations before you,Hethæum,the Hittite,et Gergezæum,and the Girgashite,et Amorrhæum,and the Amorite,Chananæum,and the Canaanite,et Pherezæum,and the Perizzite,et Hevæum,and the Hivite,et Jebusæum,and the Jebusite, septem gentes multo majoris numeri quam tu es,seven nations much more numerous than you,et robustiores te:and more robust than you,

tradideritque eas Dominus Deus tuus tibi, and when the Lord your God will have delivered them to you, percuties eas usque ad internecionem.you shall strike them down unto utter annihilation.Non inibis cum eis fœdus,You shall not enter into a pact with them, nec misereberis earum, nor shall you show any pity to them.

neque sociabis cum eis conjugia. And you shall not associate with them in marriage.Filiam tuam non dabis filio ejus,You shall not give your daughter to his son,nec filiam illius accipies filio tuo:nor accept his daughter for your son.

quia seducet filium tuum,For she will seduce your son,ne sequatur me,so that he will not follow me,et ut magis serviat diis alienis:and so that he will instead serve foreign gods.irasceturque furor Domini,And the fury of the Lord will be enraged,et delebit te cito.and he will quickly destroy you.

Quin potius hæc facietis eis:So instead, you shall do this to them:aras eorum subvertite, overturn their altars,et confringite statuas, lucosque succidite, and break their statues, and cut down their sacred groves,et sculptilia comburite:and burn up their graven images.

quia populus sanctus es Domino Deo tuo.For you are a holy people to the Lord your God.Te elegit Dominus Deus tuus, ut sis ei populus peculiaris de cunctis populis, qui sunt super terram. The Lord your God has chosen you so that you would be his particular people out of all the peoples who are upon the earth.

Non quia cunctas gentes numero vincebatis, vobis junctus est Dominus, et elegit vos,It is not because you surpass all the nations in number that the Lord has joined with you and has chosen you,cum omnibus sitis populis pauciores:for you are the least numerous of any people.

sed quia dilexit vos Dominus,But it is because the Lord has loved you,et custodivit juramentum, and has kept his oath, quod juravit patribus vestris:which he swore to your fathers.eduxitque vos in manu forti,And he has led you away with a strong hand,et redemit de domo servitutis, and he has redeemed you from the house of servitude,de manu Pharaonis regis Ægypti.from the hand of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

Et scies,And you shall know that the Lord your God himself is a strongquia Dominus Deus tuus, and faithful God,ipse est Deus fortis et fidelis, preserving his covenantcustodiens pactum et misericordiam diligentibus se,and his mercy for those who love himet his qui custodiunt præcepta ejus in mille generationes:and those who keep his precepts for a thousand generations,

et reddens odientibus se statim, and promptly repaying those who hate him,ita ut disperdat eos,so as to utterly ruin them,et ultra non differat, without further delay, protinus eis restituens quod merentur.quickly rendering to them what they deserve.

Custodi ergo præceptaTherefore,et cæremoniaskeep the precepts and ceremonies as well as the judgments, atque judicia, which I command to you this day,quæ ego mando tibi hodie ut facias.so that you may do them.

Si postquam audieris hæc judicia,If, after you have heard these judgments, custodieris ea, et feceris, you keep and do them, custodiet et Dominus Deus tuus pactum tibi, et misericordiam quam juravit patribus tuis:the Lord your God will also keep his covenant with you and the mercy that he swore to your fathers.

et diliget te, ac multiplicabit,And he will love you and multiply you.benedicetque fructui ventris tui,And he will bless the fruit of your womb,et fructui terræ tuæ,and the fruit of your land:frumento tuo, atque vindemiæ, oleo, your grain as well as your vintage,et armentis, oil, and herds, gregibus ovium tuarum super terram, pro qua juravit patribus tuis ut daret eam tibi.and the flocks of your sheep, upon the land about which he swore to your fathers that he would give it to you.

Benedictus eris inter omnes populos.Blessed shall you be among all peoples.Non erit apud te sterilis utriusque sexus,No one will be barren among you of either gender, tam in hominibus quam in gregibus tuis.as much among men as among your herds.

Auferet Dominus a te omnem languorem:The Lord will take all sickness away from you.et infirmitates Ægypti pessimas,And the very grievous infirmities of Egypt, quas novisti, which you have known, non inferet tibi,he will not bring upon you,sed cunctis hostibus tuis.but upon your enemies.

Devorabis omnes populos,You shall devour all the peoples, quos Dominus Deus tuus daturus est tibi.which the Lord your God will deliver to you.Non parcet eis oculus tuus,Your eye shall not spare them, nec servies diis eorum, neither shall you serve their gods,ne sint in ruinam tui.lest they be your ruin.

Si dixeris in corde tuo:If you say in your heart,Plures sunt gentes istæ quam ego:‘These nations are more than I am,quomodo potero delere eas?so how will I be able to destroy them?’

noli metuere,do not be apprehensive.sed recordare quæ fecerit Dominus Deus tuus Pharaoni,Instead,et cunctis Ægyptiis, recall what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all the Egyptians:

plagas maximas, quas viderunt oculi tui,the very great plagues, which your eyes saw,et signa atque portenta, and the signs and wonders, manumque robustam, et extentum brachium, and the powerful hand and outstretched arm,ut educeret te Dominus Deus tuus:by which the Lord your God led you away.sic faciet cunctis populis,So will he do to all the peoples, quos metuis.whom you dread.

Insuper et crabrones mittet Dominus Deus tuus in eos,Moreover, the Lord your God will also send hornets among them, donec deleat omnes atque disperdat qui te fugerint, until he destroys and scatters all who have escaped from you,et latere potuerint.or who have been able to hide.

Non timebis eos,You shall not fear them, quia Dominus Deus tuus in medio tui est,for the Lord your God is in your midst:Deus magnus et terribilis:a great and terrible God.

ipse consumet nationes has in conspectu tuo paulatim atque per partes. He himself will consume these nations in your sight, a little at a time, by degrees.Non poteris eas delere pariter:You will not be able to destroy them all at once.ne forte multiplicentur contra te bestiæ terræ.Otherwise, the wild beasts of the earth might increase against you.

Dabitque eos Dominus Deus tuus in conspectu tuo:And so,et interficiet illos, the Lord your God will present them in your sight, donec penitus deleantur.and you shall slay them until they are thoroughly wiped away.

Tradetque reges eorum in manus tuas,And he shall deliver their kings into your hands,et disperdes nomina eorum sub cælo:and you shall abolish their names from under heaven.nullus poterit resistere tibi,No one will be able to withstand you, donec conteras eos.until you crush them.

Sculptilia eorum igne combures:Their graven images, non concupisces argentum et aurum, you shall burn with fire.de quibus facta sunt,You shall not covet the silver or gold from which they have been made.neque assumes ex eis tibi quidquam,And you shall not take for yourself anything from these,ne offendas, lest you offend, propterea quia abominatio est Domini tui:because this is an abomination to the Lord your God.

nec inferes quippiam ex idolo in domum tuam,Neither shall you carry anything of the idol into your house,ne fias anathema, lest you become accursed, sicut et illud est.just as it also is.Quasi spurcitiam detestaberis,You shall detest it like dung,et velut inquinamentum ac sordes abominationi habebis, and you shall abominate it like defilement and filth, quia anathema est.because it is an accursed thing.”
