Qui timet Deum faciet bona,Whoever fears God will do good.et qui continens est justitiæ apprehendet illam:And whoever holds to justice will obtain it.
et obviabit illi quasi mater honorificata,And like an honorable mother, she will meet him,et quasi mulier a virginitate suscipiet illum.and like a virgin bride, she will receive him.
Cibabit illum pane vitæ et intellectus,She will feed him with the bread of life and understanding.et aqua sapientiæ salutaris potabit illum:And she will give him to drink from the water of salvific wisdom.et firmabitur in illo,And she will be confirmed in him,et non flectetur:and he will not waver.
et continebit illum,And she will hold to him,et non confundetur:and he will not be confounded.et exaltabit illum apud proximos suos,And she will exalt him, along with those closest to him.
et in medio ecclesiæ aperiet os ejus,And in the midst of the Church,et adimplebit illum spiritu sapientiæshe will open his mouth,et intellectus, and she will fill him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding,et stola gloriæ vestiet illum.and she will clothe him with a robe of glory.
Jucunditatem et exsultationem thesaurizabit super illum,She will store up in him a treasure of rejoicing and exultation,et nomine æterno hæreditabit illum.and she will cause him to inherit an everlasting name.
Homines stulti non apprehendent illam,But foolish men will not take hold of her.et homines sensati obviabunt illi. And though understanding men will meet her,Homines stulti non videbunt eam:foolish men will not catch sight of her.longe enim abest a superbia et dolo. For she is far from arrogance and deceit.
Viri mendaces non erunt illius memores: et viri veraces invenientur in illa,Lying men will be wary of her. But men who speak the truth will be found with her,et successum habebunt usque ad inspectionem Dei.and they will have success, even when examined by God.
Non est speciosa laus in ore peccatoris,Praise is not beautiful in the mouth of a sinner.
quoniam a Deo profecta est sapientia. For wisdom was sent from God.Sapientiæ enim Dei astabit laus,And praise will stand before the wisdom of God,et in ore fideli abundabit, and praise will abound in the mouths of the faithful,et Dominator dabit eam illi.and the sovereign Lord will give praise to wisdom.
Non dixeris:You should not say:Per Deum abest:“It is because of God that wisdom is absent.”quæ enim odit ne feceris. For you should not do what he detests.
Non dicas:You should not say:Ille me implanavit:“He has led me astray.”non enim necessarii sunt ei homines impii. For the impious are of no use to him.
Omne execramentum erroris odit Dominus,The Lord hates all abominable error,et non erit amabile timentibus eum.and those who fear him will not love such things.
Deus ab initio constituit hominem,God established man from the beginning,et reliquit illum in manu consilii sui:and he left him in the hand of his own counsel.
adjecit mandata et præcepta sua.He added his commandments and precepts.
Si volueris mandata servare,If you choose to keep the commandments, conservabunt te,and if, having chosen them,et in perpetuum fidem placitam facere.you fulfill them with perpetual fidelity, they will preserve you.
Apposuit tibi aquam et ignem,He has set water and fire before you.ad quod volueris porrige manum tuam.Extend your hand to whichever one you would choose.
Ante hominem vita et mors,Before man is life and death, bonum et malum:good and evil.quod placuerit ei dabitur illi:Whichever one he chooses will be given to him.
quoniam multa sapientia Dei,For the wisdom of God is manifold.et fortis in potentia,And he is strong in power, videns omnes sine intermissione.seeing all things without ceasing.
Oculi Domini ad timentes eum,The eyes of the Lord are upon those who fear him,et ipse agnoscit omnem operam hominis.and he knows each one of the works of man.
Nemini mandavit impie agere,He has commanded no one to act impiously,et nemini dedit spatium peccandi:and he has given no one permission to sin.
non enim concupiscit multitudinem filiorum infidelium et inutilium. For he does not desire a multitude of unfaithful and useless sons.
