Fili,Son,accedens ad servitutem Dei sta in justitiawhen you apply yourself to the service of God,et timore, stand in justice and in fear,et præpara animam tuam ad tentationem.and prepare your soul for temptation.
Deprime cor tuum,Humble your heart,et sustine:and persevere.inclina aurem tuam,Incline your ear,et suscipe verba intellectus:and accept words of understanding.et ne festines in tempore obductionis. And you should not hurry away in the time of distress.
Sustine sustentationes Dei:Endure steadfastly for God.conjungere Deo,Join yourself to God,et sustine, and persevere,ut crescat in novissimo vita tua.so that your life may increase in the very end.
Omne quod tibi applicitum fuerit accipe:Accept everything that will happen to you,et in dolore sustine, and persevere in your sorrow,et in humilitate tua patientiam habe:and have patience in your humiliation.
quoniam in igne probatur aurumFor gold and silver are tested in fire,et argentum, yet truly, homines vero receptibiles in camino humiliationis.acceptable men are tested in the furnace of humiliation.
Crede Deo,Believe God,et recuperabit te:and he will restore you to health.et dirige viam tuam,And straighten your way,et spera in illum:and hope in him.serva timorem illius,Observe his fear,et in illo veterasce.and grow old in it.
Metuentes Dominum,You who fear the Lord, sustinete misericordiam ejus:wait for his mercy.et non deflectatis ab illo,And do not turn away from him,ne cadatis.lest you fall.
Qui timetis Dominum,You who fear the Lord, credite illi, believe in him.et non evacuabitur merces vestra. And your reward will not be taken away.
Qui timetis Dominum, sperate in illum,You who fear the Lord, hope in him.et in oblectationem veniet vobis misericordia. And mercy will approach you, to your delight.
Qui timetis Dominum,You who fear the Lord, diligite illum, love him.et illuminabuntur corda vestra. And your hearts will be illuminated.
Respicite,My sons, filii, consider the nations of men, nationes hominum:and know that not one of them hoped in the Lordet scitote quia nullus speravit in Domino et confusus est.and was confounded.
Quis enim permansit in mandatis ejus,For who has remained in his commandmentet derelictus est?and been abandoned?aut quis invocavit eum,Or who has called upon him,et despexit illum?and yet he despised him?
Quoniam pius et misericors est Deus,For God is upright and merciful,et remittet in die tribulationis peccata, and he will forgive sins in the day of tribulation.et protector est omnibus exquirentibus se in veritate. And he is the Protector to all those who seek him in truth.
Væ duplici corde,Woe to the duplicitous heart,et labiis scelestis, and to the wicked lips,et manibus malefacientibus, and to the hands that do evil,et peccatori terram ingredienti duabus viis!and to the sinner who walks the earth by two ways!
Væ dissolutis corde,Woe to the dissolute in heart, qui non credunt Deo,who do not trust God! For,et ideo non protegentur ab eo!as a result, they will not be protected by him.
Væ his qui perdiderunt sustinentiam,Woe to those who have lost endurance,et qui dereliquerunt vias rectas, and who have abandoned upright ways,et diverterunt in vias pravas!and who have turned aside to depraved ways!
Et quid facient cum inspicere cœperit Dominus? And what will they do when the Lord begins to examine them?
Qui timent Dominum non erunt incredibiles verbo illius:Those who fear the Lord will not be unbelieving toward his Word.et qui diligunt illum conservabunt viam illius. And those who love him will keep to his way.
Qui timent Dominum inquirent quæ beneplacita sunt ei,Those who fear the Lord will seek the things that are well-pleasing to him.et qui diligunt eum replebuntur lege ipsius. And those who love him will be filled with his law.
Qui timent Dominum præparabunt corda sua,Those who fear the Lord will prepare their hearts,et in conspectu illius sanctificabunt animas suas.and they will sanctify their souls in his sight.
Qui timent Dominum custodiunt mandata illius,Those who fear the Lord keep his commandments,et patientiam habebunt usque ad inspectionem illius, and they will have patience even until his examination,
dicentes:saying:Si pœnitentiam non egerimus,“If we do not do penance, incidemus in manus Domini, then we will fall into the hands of the Lord,et non in manus hominum.and not into the hands of men.”
Secundum enim magnitudinem ipsius,For according to his greatness, sic et misericordia illius cum ipso est.so also is his mercy with him.
