Accedite,O nationsgentes,and peoples:et audite;draw near,et populi,and listen,attendite:and pay attention!audiat terra,Let the earthet plenitudo ejus;and its fullness hear,orbis,the entire worldet omne germen ejus.and all its offspring.
Quia indignatio Domini super omnes gentes,For the indignation of the Lord is over all the nations,et furor super universam militiam eorum:and his fury is over all their armies.interfecit eos,He has put them to death,et dedit eos in occisionem.and he has given them over to slaughter.
Interfecti eorum projicientur,Their slain will be cast out,et de cadaveribus eorum ascendet fœtor;and from their carcasses a foul odor will rise up.tabescent montes a sanguine eorum. The mountains will languish because of their blood.
Et tabescet omnis militia cælorum,And the entire army of the heavens will languish,et complicabuntur sicut liber cæli:and the heavens will be folded like a book.et omnis militia eorum defluet,And their entire army will fall away, sicut defluit folium de vinea et de ficu.as a leaf falls from the vine or from the fig tree.
Quoniam inebriatus est in cælo gladius meus;“For my sword in heaven has been inebriated. Behold, ecce super Idumæam descendet,it will descend upon Idumea,et super populum interfectionis meæ,and upon the people of my slaughter,ad judicium.unto judgment.”
Gladius Domini repletus est sanguine,The sword of the Lord has been filled with blood.incrassatus est adipe,It has been thickened by the blood of lambsde sanguine agnorum et hircorum, and he-goats,de sanguine medullatorum arietum:by the innermost blood of rams.victima enim Domini in Bosra,For the victim of the Lord is in Bozrah,et interfectio magna in terra Edom.and a great slaughter is in the land of Edom.
Et descendent unicornes cum eis,And the single-horned beasts will descend with them,et tauri cum potentibus;and the bulls along with the mighty.inebriabitur terra eorum sanguine,Their land will be inebriated by blood,et humus eorum adipe pinguium.and their ground by the fat of their lazy ones.
Quia dies ultionis Domini,For this is the day of the vengeance of the Lord, annus retributionum judicii Sion.the year of retribution for the judgment of Zion.
Et convertentur torrentes ejus in picem,And its torrents will be turned into tar,et humus ejus in sulphur;and its soil into sulfur.et erit terra ejus in picem ardentem. And its land will become burning tar.
Nocte et die non extinguetur,Night and day, it will not be extinguished;in sempiternum ascendet fumus ejus, its smoke will rise up without ceasing.a generatione in generationem desolabitur,From generation to generation it will remain desolate.in sæcula sæculorum non erit transiens per eam.No one will pass through it, forever and ever.
Et possidebunt illam onocrotalus et ericius; The pelican and the hedgehog will possess it.ibis et corvus habitabunt in ea:And the ibis and the raven will live in it.et extendetur super eam mensura,And a measuring line will be extended over it,ut redigatur ad nihilum,so that it may be reduced to nothing,et perpendiculum in desolationem.and a plumb line, unto desolation.
Nobiles ejus non erunt ibi;Its nobles will not be in that place. Instead, regem potius invocabunt, they will call upon the king,et omnes principes ejus erunt in nihilum.and all its leaders will be as nothing.
Et orientur in domibus ejus spinæ et urticæ,And thorns and nettles will rise up in its houses,et paliurus in munitionibus ejus;and the thistle in its fortified places.et erit cubile draconum, et pascua struthionum. And it will be the lair of serpents and the pasture of ostriches.
Et occurrent dæmonia onocentauris,And demons and monsters will meet,et pilosus clamabit alter ad alterum;and the hairy ones will cry out to one another.ibi cubavit lamia,There,et invenit sibi requiem.the ogress has lain down and found rest for herself.
Ibi habuit foveam ericius,In that place, the hedgehog has kept its den,et enutrivit catulos, and has raised its young,et circumfodit, and has dug around them,et fovit in umbra ejus;and has kept them warm in its shadow.illuc congregati sunt milvi,In that place, the birds of prey have joined together, alter ad alterum.one to another.
Requirite diligenter in libro Domini,Searchet legite:and read diligently in the book of the Lord.Unum ex eis non defuit,Not one of them was lacking;alter alterum non quæsivit;not one has sought for the other.quia quod ex ore meo procedit,For what has proceeded from my mouth, ille mandavit,he has commanded,et spiritus ejus ipse congregavit ea.and his very Spirit has gathered them.
Et ipse misit eis sortem,And he has cast lots over them.et manus ejus divisit eam illis in mensuram:And his hand has distributed this to them by measure.usque in æternum possidebunt eam; They will possess it, even unto eternity.in generationem et generationem habitabunt in ea.From generation to generation, they will dwell in it.
