Agite nunc divites,Act now, you who are wealthy!plorate ululantes in miseriis vestris, quæ advenient vobis.Weep and wail in your miseries, which will soon come upon you!

Divitiæ vestræ putrefactæ sunt,Your riches have been corrupted,et vestimenta vestra a tineis comesta sunt.and your garments have been eaten by moths.

Aurum et argentum vestrum æruginavit:Your gold and silver have rusted,et ærugo eorum in testimonium vobis erit, and their rust will be a testimony against you,et manducabit carnes vestras sicut ignis.and it will eat away at your flesh like fire.Thesaurizastis vobis iram in novissimis diebus. You have stored up wrath for yourselves unto the last days.

Ecce merces operariorum, qui messuerunt regiones vestras,Consider the pay of the workers who reaped your fields:quæ fraudata est a vobis,it has been misappropriated by you;clamat: et clamor eorum in aures Domini sabbaoth introivit.it cries out. And their cry has entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts.

Epulati estis super terram,You have feasted upon the earth,et in luxuriis enutristis corda vestra in die occisionis.and you have nourished your hearts with luxuries, unto the day of slaughter.

Addixistis,You led awayet occidistis justum, and killed the Just One,et non restitit vobis.and he did not resist you.

Patientes igitur estote,Therefore, be patient, fratres, brothers, usque ad adventum Domini.until the advent of the Lord.Ecce agricola exspectat pretiosum fructum terræ,Consider that the farmer anticipates the precious fruit of the earth, patienter ferens donec accipiat temporaneum et serotinum.waiting patiently, until he receives the early and the late rains.

Patientes igitur estote et vos,Therefore,et confirmate corda vestra:you too should be patient and should strengthen your hearts.quoniam adventus Domini appropinquavit. For the advent of the Lord draws near.

Nolite ingemiscere,Brothers, fratres,do not complain against one another,in alterutrum,so that you may not be judged.ut non judicemini.Behold,Ecce judex ante januam assistit.the judge stands before the door.

Exemplum accipite,My brothers, fratres, consider the Prophets, exitus mali, who spoke in the name of the Lord, laboris,as an example of departing from evil,et patientiæ,of labor, prophetas qui locuti sunt in nomine Domini.and of patience.

Ecce beatificamus eos qui sustinuerunt.Consider that we beatify those who have endured.Sufferentiam Job audistis,You have heard of the patient suffering of Job.et finem Domini vidistis,And you have seen the end of the Lord, quoniam misericors Dominus est, that the Lord is mercifulet miserator.and compassionate.

Ante omnia autem,But before all things, fratres mei,my brothers, nolite jurare, neque per cælum,do not choose to swear, neque per terram, neither by heaven, neque aliud quodcumque juramentum.nor by the earth, nor in any other oath.Sit autem sermo vester:But let your word ‘Yes’ be yes,Est, est: Non,and your word ‘No’ be no,non: ut non sub judicio decidatis.so that you may not fall under judgment.

Tristatur aliquis vestrum? Is any of you sad?oret.Let him pray.Æquo animo est?Is he even-tempered?psallat.Let him sing psalms.

Infirmatur quis in vobis? Is anyone ill among you?inducat presbyteros ecclesiæ,Let him bring in the priests of the Church,et orent super eum,and let them pray over him, ungentes eum oleo in nomine Domini:anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

et oratio fidei salvabit infirmum,And a prayer of faith will save the infirm,et alleviabit eum Dominus:and the Lord will alleviate him.et si in peccatis sit,And if he has sins, remittentur ei.these will be forgiven him.

Confitemini ergo alterutrum peccata vestra,Therefore, confess your sins to one another,et orate pro invicem ut salvemini:and pray for one another, so that you may be saved.multum enim valet deprecatio justi assidua. For the unremitting prayer of a just person prevails over many things.

Elias homo erat similis nobis passibilis:Elijah was a mortal man like us,et oratione oravit ut non plueret super terram, and in prayer he prayed that it would not rain upon the earth.et non pluit annos tres,And it did not rain for three yearset menses sex.and six months.

Et rursum oravit:And he prayed again.et cælum dedit pluviam,And the heavens gave rain,et terra dedit fructum suum.and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Fratres mei,My brothers,si quis ex vobis erraverit a veritate,if anyone of you strays from the truth,et converterit quis eum:and if someone converts him,

scire debet quoniam qui converti fecerit peccatorem ab errore viæ suæ, salvabit animam ejus a morte, et operiet multitudinem peccatorum.he ought to know that whoever causes a sinner to be converted from the error of his ways will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
