³Majores miserunt minores suos ad aquam:The greater ones have sent their lesser ones to the water.venerunt ad hauriendum.They went to draw water;Non invenerunt aquam:they did not find water;reportaverunt vasa sua vacua.they carried their vessels back empty.Confusi sunt,They were confoundedet afflicti,and afflicted,et operuerunt capita sua.and so they covered their heads.

⁷Si iniquitates nostræ responderint nobis,“O Lord,Domine,if our iniquities have responded against us,fac propter nomen tuum:let it be for the sake of your name.quoniam multæ sunt aversiones nostræ:For our rebellions are many;tibi peccavimus.we have sinned against you.

⁸Exspectatio Israël,O Hope of Israel,salvator ejus in tempore tribulationis,its Savior in time of tribulation,quare quasi colonus futurus es in terra,why would you be like a sojourner in the land,et quasi viator declinans ad manendum?and like a traveler turning aside for lodging?

⁹quare futurus es velut vir vagus,Why would you be like a wandering man,ut fortis qui non potest salvare? Tu autem in nobis es,like a strong man who is unable to save? But you,Domine,O Lord,et nomen tuum invocatum est super nos:are with us, and your name is invoked over us,ne derelinquas nos.so do not abandon us!”

¹⁰Hæc dicit Dominus populo huic,Thus says the Lord to this people,qui dilexit movere pedes suos,who have loved to move their feet,et non quievit,and who have not rested,et Domino non placuit:but who have not pleased the Lord:Nunc recordabitur iniquitatum eorum,“Now he will remember their iniquities,et visitabit peccata eorum.and now he will visit against their sins.”

¹²Cum jejunaverint,When they will fast,non exaudiam preces eorum,I will not heed their petitions.et si obtulerint holocautomata et victimas,And if they offer holocausts and victims,non suscipiam ea:I will not accept them.quoniam gladio,For I will consume them by the sword,et fame,and by famine,et peste consumam eos.and by pestilence.”

I did not send them,et non præcepi eis,and I did not instruct them,neque locutus sum ad eos.and I have not spoken to them.Visionem mendacem, et divinationem,They prophesy to you a lying vision,et fraudulentiam,and a divination,et seductionem cordis sui, prophetant vobis.and a fraud, and a seduction from their own heart.

¹⁵Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus de prophetis qui prophetant in nomine meo,For this reason, thus says the Lord about the prophets who prophesy in my name,quos ego non misi,whom I have not sent,dicentes:who say:Gladius et fames non erit in terra hac:‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’In gladio et fame consumentur prophetæ illi.By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.

¹⁶Et populi quibus prophetant erunt projecti in viis Jerusalem præ fameAnd the people,et gladio,to whom they prophesy,et non erit qui sepeliat eos:will be cast into the streets of Jerusalem,ipsidue to famine and the sword,et uxores eorum,and there will be no one who may bury them,filiithey and their wives,et filiæ eorum:their sons and daughters,et effundam super eos malum suum.and I will pour out their own evil upon them.

And do not dishonor in us the throne of your glory.recordare,Remember,ne irritum facias fœdus tuum nobiscum.do not make void, your covenant with us.
