Tædet animam meam vitæ meæ;My soul is weary of my life.dimittam adversum me eloquium meum:I will release my words against myself.loquar in amaritudine animæ meæ.I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Dicam Deo:I will say to God:Noli me condemnare;Do not be willing to condemn me.indica mihi cur me ita judices.Reveal to me why you judge me this way.

Numquid bonum tibi videtur,Does it seem good to you,si calumnieris me,if you find fault with me and oppress me,et opprimas me opus manuum tuarum, the work of your own hands,et consilium impiorum adjuves?and assist the counsel of the impious?

Numquid oculi carnei tibi sunt?Do you have bodily eyes? Or,aut sicut videt homo, just as man sees,et tu videbis?will you see?

Numquid sicut dies hominis dies tui,Are your days just like the days of man,et anni tui sicut humana sunt tempora, and are your years as the times of humans,

ut quæras iniquitatem meam,so that you would inquire about my iniquityet peccatum meum scruteris, and examine my sin?

et scias quia nihil impium fecerim,And you know that I have done nothing impious, cum sit nemo qui de manu tua possit eruere?yet there is no one who can deliver from your hand.

Manus tuæ fecerunt me, et plasmaverunt me totum in circuitu:Your hands have made me and formed me all around, and,et sic repente præcipitas me?in this way, do you suddenly throw me away?

Memento,Remember,quæso,I ask you, quod sicut lutum feceris me,that you have fashioned me like clay,et in pulverem reduces me.and you will reduce me to dust.

Nonne sicut lac mulsisti me,Have you not extracted me like milket sicut caseum me coagulasti?and curdled me like cheese?

Pelle et carnibus vestisti me;You have clothed me with skin and flesh.ossibus et nervis compegisti me.You have put me together with bones and nerves.

Vitam et misericordiam tribuisti mihi,You have assigned to me life and mercy,et visitatio tua custodivit spiritum meum.and your visitation has preserved my spirit.

Licet hæc celes in corde tuo,Though you may conceal this in your heart, tamen scio quia universorum memineris.yet I know that you remember everything.

Si peccavi,If I have sinned,et ad horam pepercisti mihi, and you have spared me for an hour, cur ab iniquitate mea mundum me esse non pateris?why do you not endure me to be clean from my iniquity?

Et si impius fuero,And if I should be impious,væ mihi est;woe to me,et si justus, and if I should be just, non levabo caput,I will not lift up my head, saturatus afflictione et miseria.being drenched with affliction and misery.

Et propter superbiam quasi leænam capies me,And because of pride, you will seize me like a lioness, reversusque mirabiliter me crucias.and having returned, you torment me to an extraordinary degree.

Instauras testes tuos contra me,You renew your testimony against me,et multiplicas iram tuam adversum me,and you multiply your wrath against me,et pœnæ militant in me.and these punishments make war within me.

Quare de vulva eduxisti me?Why did you lead me out of the womb?qui utinam consumptus essem,If only I had been consumed,ne oculus me videret.so that no eye would ever see me!

Fuissem quasi non essem,I should have been as if I had not been:de utero translatus ad tumulum.transferred from the womb to the tomb.

Numquid non paucitas dierum meorum finietur brevi? Will not my few days be completed soon? Release me,dimitte ergo me, ut plangam paululum dolorem meum, therefore, so that I may lament my sorrows a little,

antequam vadam, et non revertar, ad terram tenebrosam, et opertam mortis caligine:before I depart and return no more to a land that is dark and covered with the fog of death,

terram miseriæ et tenebrarum,a land of misery and darkness, ubi umbra mortis et nullus ordo, where the shadow of death, sed sempiternus horror inhabitat.and nothing else but everlasting horror, dwells.
