Omiserunt autem tres viri isti respondere Job,But these three men ceased to answer Job,eo quod justus sibi videretur.because he considered himself justified.
Et iratus indignatusque est Eliu filius Barachel Buzites,And Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite,de cognatione Ram:of the kindred of Ram,iratus est autem adversum Job,was angry and indignant.eo quod justum se esse diceret coram Deo.But he was angry against Job because he described himself to be just in the presence of God.
Porro adversum amicos ejus indignatus est,Moreover,eo quod non invenissent responsionem rationabilem,he was indignant with his friends because they had not found a reasonable response, sed tantummodo condemnassent Job.except in so far as they condemned Job.
Igitur Eliu expectavit Job loquentem,Therefore, Eliu waited while Job was talking,eo quod seniores essent qui loquebantur.for these were his elders that were speaking.
Cum autem vidisset quod tres respondere non potuissent,But when he saw that these three were not able to respond, iratus est vehementer.he was extremely angry.
Respondensque Eliu filius Barachel Buzites, dixit:And so Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite responded by saying:Junior sum tempore,I am younger in years, vos autem antiquiores:and you are more ancient;idcirco, therefore, demisso capite,I kept my head low, veritus sum vobis indicare meam sententiam.for I was afraid to reveal to you my opinion.
Sperabam enim quod ætas prolixior loqueretur,For I had hoped that greater age would speak,et annorum multitudo doceret sapientiam.and that a multitude of years would teach wisdom.
Sed, ut video, spiritus est in hominibus,But I see now that there is only breath in men,et inspiratio Omnipotentis dat intelligentiam.and that it is the inspiration of the Almighty that gives understanding.
Non sunt longævi sapientes,The wise are not the aged, nec senes intelligunt judicium.nor do the elders understand judgment.
Ideo dicam:Therefore,Audite me:I will speak.ostendam vobis etiam ego meam sapientiam.Listen to me, and so I will show you my wisdom.
Expectavi enim sermones vestros; For I have endured your words;audivi prudentiam vestram,I have paid attention to your deliberations, donec disceptaremini sermonibus;while you were being argumentative with words.
et donec putabam vos aliquid dicere, considerabam: sed,And as long as I supposed that you were saying something,ut video,I considered;non est qui possit arguere Job, et respondere ex vobis sermonibus ejus.but now I see that there is none of you that is able to argue with Job and to respond to his words.
Ne forte dicatis:So that you will not say,Invenimus sapientiam:“We have found wisdom,”Deus projecit eum,God has thrown him down, non homo.not man.
Nihil locutus est mihi:He has said nothing to me,et ego non secundum sermones vestros respondebo illi.and I will not respond to him according to your words.
Extimuerunt,Then they were filled with dread, nec responderunt ultra, and so they no longer responded, abstuleruntque a se eloquia.and they withdrew from their speechmaking.
Quoniam igitur expectavi, et non sunt locuti:Therefore, because I have waited and they have not been speaking, steterunt, nec ultra responderunt:for they stood firm and did not respond at all,
respondebo et ego partem meam,I also will answer in my turn,et ostendam scientiam meam.and I will reveal my knowledge.
Plenus sum enim sermonibus,For I am full of words,et coarctat me spiritus uteri mei.and the feeling in my gut inspires me.
En venter meus quasi mustum absque spiraculo,Yes, my stomach is like fermenting wine without a vent, quod lagunculas novas disrumpit.which bursts the new containers.
Loquar,I should speak,et respirabo paululum:but I will also breathe a little;aperiam labia mea,I will open my lips,et respondebo.and I will answer.
Non accipiam personam viri,I will not esteem the reputation of a man,et Deum homini non æquabo.and I will not equate God with man.
Nescio enim quamdiu subsistam,For I do not know how long I will continue,et si post modicum tollat me factor meus.and whether, after a while, my Maker might take me away.
