Igitur Eliu hæc rursum locutus est:After this, Eliu again spoke in this way:

Numquid æqua tibi videtur tua cogitatio,Does it seem right to you in your thoughts,ut diceres:that you should say,Justior sum Deo?“I am more just than God?”

Dixisti enim:For you said,Non tibi placet quod rectum est:“Having done what is right does not please you,” and,vel quid tibi proderit, si ego peccavero?“How will it benefit you, if I sin?”

Itaque ego respondebo sermonibus tuis,And so, I will respond to your words,et amicis tuis tecum.and to your friends who are with you.

Suspice cælum, et intuere:Look up towards heaven and consider;et contemplare æthera quod altior te sit.also, think about the sky, which is higher than you.

Si peccaveris,If you sin, quid ei nocebis?how will it hurt him?et si multiplicatæ fuerint iniquitates tuæ,And if your iniquities are multiplied, quid facies contra eum?what will you do against him?

Porro si juste egeris,Furthermore, if you act justly, quid donabis ei?what will you give him,aut quid de manu tua accipiet?or what will he receive from your hand?

Homini qui similis tui est, nocebit impietas tua:Your impiety may hurt a man who is like you,et filium hominis adjuvabit justitia tua.though your justice may help the son of the man.

Propter multitudinem calumniatorum clamabunt,Because of the multitude of false accusers, they will cry out;et ejulabunt propter vim brachii tyrannorum.and they will lament because of the strong arm of the tyrants.

Et non dixit:Yet he has not said:Ubi est Deus qui fecit me,“Where is God, who made me,qui dedit carmina in nocte;who has given songs in the night,

qui docet nos super jumenta terræ,who teaches us in addition to the beasts of the earth,et super volucres cæli erudit nos?and who educates us along with the birds of the air?”

Ibi clamabunt,There they will cry,et non exaudiet, and he will not heed them, propter superbiam malorum.because of the arrogance of the wicked.

Non ergo frustra audiet Deus,Therefore, God does not hear in vain,et Omnipotens causas singulorum intuebitur.and the Almighty will look into each and every case.

Etiam cum dixeris:And so, when you say,Non considerat:“He does not examine,”judicare coram illo,be judged before him,et expecta eum.but wait for him.

Nunc enim non infert furorem suum,For, at the present time, he does not bring forth his fury, nec ulciscitur scelus valde.nor does he punish sin exceedingly.

Ergo Job frustra aperit os suum,Therefore,et absque scientia verba multiplicat.Job has opened his mouth in vain and has multiplied words without knowledge.
