Si peccaverit anima,If a soul will have sinned,et audierit vocem jurantis, and heard the voice of one testifying under oath, testisque fuerit quod aut ipse vidit, and he is a witness because either he has seen it himself, aut conscius est:or he is aware of it:nisi indicaverit,if he does not reveal it,portabit iniquitatem suam.he shall carry his iniquity.

Anima quæ tetigerit aliquid immundum,The soul that will have touched anything unclean, sive quod occisum a bestia est, either that which has been killed by a beast, aut per se mortuum,or that which has died on its own,aut quodlibet aliud reptile:or any other creeping thing,et oblita fuerit immunditiæ suæ,and will have forgotten its uncleanness, rea est,he is guiltyet deliquit:and has committed a transgression.

et si tetigerit quidquam de immunditia hominis juxta omnem impuritatem,And if he will have touched anything from the uncleanness of man, according to every kind of impurity by which he may be defiled, qua pollui solet, and having forgotten it,oblitaque cognoverit postea, subjacebit delicto.afterwards realizes it, he shall be guilty of committing a transgression.

Anima, quæ juraverit, et protulerit labiis suis, ut vel male quid faceret, vel bene, et idipsum juramento et sermone firmaverit, oblitaque postea intellexerit delictum suum,The soul who swears and offers from his own lips that he would do either evil or good, and who will have bound the same with an oath and with his own words, and, having forgotten it, afterwards understands his transgression,

agat pœnitentiam pro peccato, let him do penance for his sin,

et offerat de gregibus agnam sive capram, and let him offer from the flocks a female lamb or a she-goat,orabitque pro ea sacerdos et pro peccato ejus.and the priest shall pray for him and for his sin.

Sin autem non potuerit offerre pecus,But if he is not able to offer a beast, offerat duos turtures, let him offer two turtledovesvel duos pullos columbarum Domino,or two young pigeons to the Lord, unum pro peccato, one for sin,et alterum in holocaustum, and the other for a holocaust.

dabitque eos sacerdoti:And he shall give them to the priest, qui primum offerens pro peccato, who, retorquebit caput ejus ad pennulas, offering the first for sin,ita ut collo hæreat, shall twist back its head to the little wings,et non penitus abrumpatur.so that it adheres to the neck and is not entirely broken off.

Et asperget de sanguine ejus parietem altaris; And he shall sprinkle some of its blood at the side of the altar.quidquid autem reliquum fuerit,But whatever will remain, faciet distillare ad fundamentum ejus,he shall cause it to drip down to the base, quia pro peccato est.because it is for sin.

Alterum vero adolebit in holocaustum,Yet truly, the other he shall burn as a holocaust,ut fieri solet:just as is usually done.rogabitque pro eo sacerdos et pro peccato ejus,And the priest shall pray for him, and for his sin,et dimittetur ei.and he shall be released from it.

Quod si non quiverit manus ejus duos offerre turtures, aut duos pullos columbarum,But if his hand is unable to offer two turtledoves or two young pigeons, he shall offer, offeret pro peccato suo similæ partem ephi decimam:for his sin, the tenth part of an ephah of fine wheat flour.non mittet in eam oleum,He shall not put oil in it,nec thuris aliquid imponet, nor place upon it any frankincense, quia pro peccato est.because it is for sin.

Tradetque eam sacerdoti:And he shall deliver it to the priest, qui plenum ex ea pugillum hauriens, who shall take a handful of it,cremabit super altare in monimentum ejus qui obtulerit, and shall burn it upon the altar as a memorial for him who offered it,

rogans pro illopraying for him and making atonement.et expians:Yet truly, reliquam vero partem ipse habebit in munere.the remaining part he himself shall have as a gift.

Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen,And the Lord spoke to Moses, dicens:saying:

Anima si prævaricans cæremonias,If a soul, by mistake, per errorem, in his quæ Domino sunt sanctificata, peccaverit, shall have transgressed the ceremonies in those things that are sanctified to the Lord, offeret pro delicto suo arietem immaculatum de gregibus,he shall offer for his offense an immaculate ram from the flocks, qui emi potest duobus siclis, such as can be bought for two shekels, juxta pondus sanctuarii:according to the weight of the Sanctuary.

ipsumque quod intulit damni restituet,And he shall make restitution for the damage that he has brought,et quintam partem ponet supra, and he shall add a fifth part more, tradens sacerdoti, delivering it to the priest, qui rogabit pro eo offerens arietem, who shall pray for him while offering the ram,et dimittetur ei.and he shall be released from it.

Anima si peccaverit per ignorantiam,If a soul will have sinned through ignorance, feceritque unum ex his quæ Domini lege prohibentur, and will have done one of those things which the law of the Lord prohibits,et peccati rea intellexerit iniquitatem suam, and, being guilty of sin, understands his iniquity,

offeret arietem immaculatum de gregibus sacerdoti,he shall offer from the flocks an immaculate ram to the priest, juxta mensuram æstimationemque peccati:according to the measure and estimation of the sin,qui orabit pro eo,who shall pray for him, quia nesciens fecerit:because he did it unknowingly,et dimittetur ei,and he shall be released from it,

quia per errorem deliquit in Dominum.because by mistake he transgressed against the Lord.
