Et introivit iterum in synagogam:And again, he entered into the synagogue.et erat ibi homo habens manum aridam. And there was a man there who had a withered hand.

Et observabant eum,And they observed him,si sabbatis curaret,to see if he would cure on the Sabbaths,ut accusarent illum.so that they might accuse him.

Et ait homini habenti manum aridam:And he said to the man who had the withered hand,Surge in medium.“Stand up in the middle.”

Et dicit eis:And he said to them:Licet sabbatis benefacere,“Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbaths,an male?or to do evil, animam salvam facere,to give health to a life,an perdere?or to destroy?”At illi tacebant. But they remained silent.

Et circumspiciens eos cum ira,And looking around at them with anger, contristatus super cæcitate cordis eorum, being very saddened over the blindness of their hearts, dicit homini:he said to the man,Extende manum tuam.“Extend your hand.”Et extendit,And he extended it,et restituta est manus illi.and his hand was restored to him.

Exeuntes autem pharisæi,Then the Pharisees, going out, statim cum Herodianis consilium faciebant adversus eum quomodo eum perderent.immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him, as to how they might destroy him.

Jesus autem cum discipulis suis secessit ad mare:But Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea.et multa turba a Galilæa et Judæa secuta est eum,And a great crowd followed him from Galilee and Judea,

et ab Jerosolymis, and from Jerusalem,et ab Idumæa, et trans Jordanem:and from Idumea and across the Jordan.et qui circa Tyrum et Sidonem multitudo magna,And those around Tyre and Sidon, upon hearing what he was doing, audientes quæ faciebat, venerunt ad eum.came to him in a great multitude.

Et dicit discipulis suis ut navicula sibi deserviret propter turbam,And he told his disciples that a small boat would be useful to him, because of the crowd,ne comprimerent eum:lest they press upon him.

multos enim sanabat,For he healed so many, ita ut irruerent in eum ut illum tangerent, quotquot habebant plagas.that as many of them as had wounds would rush toward him in order to touch him.

Et spiritus immundi,And the unclean spirits,cum illum videbant,when they saw him,procidebant ei:fell prostrate before him.et clamabant,And they cried out,dicentes:saying,

Tu es Filius Dei.“You are the Son of God.”Et vehementer comminabatur eis ne manifestarent illum. And he strongly admonished them, lest they make him known.

Et ascendens in montem vocavit ad se quos voluit ipse:And ascending onto a mountain, he called to himself those whom he willed,et venerunt ad eum.and they came to him.

Et fecit ut essent duodecim cum illo:And he acted so that the twelve would be with him,et ut mitteret eos prædicare.and so that he might send them out to preach.

Et dedit illis potestatem curandi infirmitatesAnd he gave them authority to cure infirmities,et ejiciendi dæmonia.and to cast out demons:

Et imposuit Simoni nomen Petrus:and he imposed on Simon the name Peter;

et Jacobum Zebedæi,and also he imposed on James of Zebedee,et Joannem fratrem Jacobi, and John the brother of James,et imposuit eis nomina Boanerges, the name ‘Boanerges,’quod est, that is,Filii tonitrui:‘Sons of Thunder;’

et Andream,and Andrew,et Philippum,and Philip,et Bartholomæum,and Bartholomew,et Matthæum,and Matthew,et Thomam,and Thomas,et Jacobum Alphæi,and James of Alphaeus,et Thaddæum,and Thaddeus,et Simonem Cananæum,and Simon the Canaanite,

et Judam Iscariotem, and Judas Iscariot, qui et tradidit illum.who also betrayed him.

Et veniunt ad domum:And they went to a house,et convenit iterum turba, and the crowd gathered together again, ita ut non possent neque panem manducare.so much so that they were not even able to eat bread.

Et cum audissent sui,And when his own had heard of it,exierunt tenere eum:they went out to take hold of him.dicebant enim:For they said:Quoniam in furorem versus est.“Because he has gone mad.”

Et scribæ, qui ab Jerosolymis descenderant, dicebant:And the scribes who had descended from Jerusalem said,Quoniam Beelzebub habet,“Because he has Beelzebub,et quia in principe dæmoniorum ejicit dæmonia.and because by the prince of demons does he cast out demons.”

Et convocatis eis in parabolis dicebat illis:And having called them together, he spoke to them in parables:Quomodo potest Satanas Satanam ejicere?“How can Satan cast out Satan?

Et si regnum in se dividatur,For if a kingdom is divided against itself, non potest regnum illud stare.that kingdom is not able to stand.

Et si domus super semetipsam dispertiatur,And if a house is divided against itself, non potest domus illa stare.that house is not able to stand.

Et si Satanas consurrexerit in semetipsum,And if Satan has risen up against himself, dispertitus est,he would be divided,et non poterit stare, and he would not be able to stand;sed finem habet.instead he reaches the end.

Nemo potest vasa fortis ingressus in domum diripere,No one is able to plunder the goods of a strong man, having entered into the house, nisi prius fortem alliget, unless he first binds the strong man,et tunc domum ejus diripiet.and then he shall plunder his house.

Amen dico vobis,Amen I say to you, quoniam omnia dimittentur filiis hominum peccata, that all sins will be forgiven the sons of men,et blasphemiæ quibus blasphemaverint:and the blasphemies by which they will have blasphemed.

qui autem blasphemaverit in Spiritum Sanctum, non habebit remissionem in æternum,But he who will have blasphemed against the Holy Spirit shall not have forgiveness in eternity;sed reus erit æterni delicti.instead he shall be guilty of an eternal offense.”

Quoniam dicebant:For they said:Spiritum immundum habet.“He has an unclean spirit.”

Et veniunt mater ejus et fratres:And his mother and brothers arrived.et foris stantes miserunt ad eum vocantes eum,And standing outside, they sent to him, calling him.

et sedebat circa eum turba:And the crowd was sitting around him.et dicunt ei:And they said to him,Ecce mater tua et fratres tui foris quærunt te.“Behold, your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.”

Et respondens eis,And responding to them, ait:he said,Quæ est mater mea et fratres mei?“Who is my mother and my brothers?”

Et circumspiciens eos,And looking around at those who were sitting all around him,qui in circuitu ejus sedebant,he said:ait:“Behold,Ecce mater mea et fratres mei.my mother and my brothers.

Qui enim fecerit voluntatem Dei,For whoever has done the will of God,hic frater meus, the same is my brother,et soror mea,and my sisteret mater est.and mother.”
