²Loquere ad filios Israël,“Speak to the sons of Israel,et accipe ab eis virgas singulas per cognationes suas,and receive from each of them a rod by their kinships,a cunctis principibus tribuum,from all the leaders of the tribes,virgas duodecim,twelve rods,et uniuscujusque nomen superscribes virgæ suæ.and write the name of each one on his rod.

⁸sequenti die regressus invenit germinasse virgam Aaron in domo Levi:returning on the following day, he found that the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi, had germinated,et turgentibus gemmis eruperant flores,and that the swelling buds had opened into flowers,qui,which,foliis dilatatis,spreading their petals,in amygdalas deformati sunt.were formed into those of an almond tree.

¹⁰Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen:And the Lord said to Moses:Refer virgam Aaron in tabernaculum testimonii,“Carry back the rod of Aaron into the tabernacle of the testimony,ut servetur ibi in signum rebellium filiorum Israël,so that it may be kept there as a sign of the rebellion of the sons of Israel,et quiescant querelæ eorum a me,and so that their complaints may be quieted before me,ne moriantur.lest they die.”
