Sicut mane transiit,Just as the morning passes, pertransiit rex Israël.so has the king of Israel passed by.Quia puer Israël,For Israel was a childet dilexi eum;and I loved him;et ex Ægypto vocavi filium meum.and out of Egypt I called my son.

Vocaverunt eos,They called them, sic abierunt a facie eorum;and so they departed before their face.Baalim immolabant,They offered victims to the Baals,et simulacris sacrificabant.and they sacrificed to graven images.

Et ego quasi nutritius Ephraim:And I was like a foster father to Ephraim.portabam eos in brachiis meis,I carried them in my arms.et nescierunt quod curarem eos.And they did not know that I healed them.

In funiculis Adam traham eos,I will draw them with the cords of Adam,in vinculis caritatis;with the bands of love.et ero eis quasi exaltans jugum super maxillas eorum,And I will be to them like one who raises the yoke over their jaws.et declinavi ad eum ut vesceretur. And I will reach down to him so that he may eat.

Non revertetur in terram Ægypti,He will not return to the land of Egypt,et Assur ipse rex ejus, but Assur himself will be the king over him, quoniam noluerunt converti.because they were not willing to be converted.

Cœpit gladius in civitatibus ejus,The sword has begun in his cities,et consumet electos ejus, and it will consume his electet comedet capita eorum.and devour their heads.

Et populus meus pendebit ad reditum meum; And my people will long for my return.jugum autem imponetur eis simul,But a yoke will be imposed on them together, quod non auferetur.which will not be taken away.

Quomodo dabo te, Ephraim? How will I provide for you, Ephraim;protegam te, Israël?how will I protect you, Israel?Quomodo dabo te sicut Adama,How will I provide for you as for Adam;ponam te ut Seboim?will I set you like Zeboiim?Conversum est in me cor meum,My heart has changed within me;pariter conturbata est pœnitudo mea.together with my regret, it has been stirred up.

Non faciam furorem iræ meæ;I will not act on the fury of my wrath.non convertar ut disperdam Ephraim,I will not turn back to utterly destroy Ephraim.quoniam Deus ego,For I am God,et non homo;and not man,in medio tui sanctus, the Divine in your midst,et non ingrediar civitatem.and I will not advance upon the city.

Post Dominum ambulabunt; They will walk after the Lord;quasi leo rugiet,he will roar like a lion.quia ipse rugiet,For he himself will roar,et formidabunt filii maris.and the sons of the sea will dread.

Et avolabunt quasi avis ex Ægypto,And they will fly like a bird out of Egypt,et quasi columba de terra Assyriorum:and like a dove from the land of the Assyrians.et collocabo eos in domibus suis,And I will arrange them in their own houses, dicit Dominus.says the Lord.

Circumdedit me in negatione Ephraim,Ephraim has besieged me with denials,et in dolo domus Israël;and the house of Israel with deceit.Judas autem testis descendit cum Deo,But Judah went down as a witness before Godet cum sanctis fidelis.and the holy ones of faith.
