Loquente Ephraim,While Ephraim was speaking, horror invasit Israël;a horror entered Israel,et deliquit in Baal, and he offended by Baal,et mortuus est.and he died.
Et nunc addiderunt ad peccandum; And now they add that they will be sinning more.feceruntque sibi conflatile de argento suo quasi similitudinem idolorum:And they have made themselves an image cast from their silver, just like the image of idols;factura artificum totum est:but the whole thing has been made by craftsmen.his ipsi dicunt:These say to them,Immolate homines,“Sacrifice men, vitulos adorantes.you who adore calves.”
Idcirco erunt quasi nubes matutina,For this reason, they will be like the morning clouds,et sicut ros matutinus præteriens; sicut pulvis turbine raptus ex area, and like the morning dew that passes away, just like the dust that is driven by a whirlwind away from the threshing floor,et sicut fumus de fumario.and like the smoke from a chimney.
Ego autem Dominus Deus tuus, ex terra Ægypti; But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt,et Deum absque me nescies, and you will not know God apart from me,et salvator non est præter me.and there is no Savior except me.
Ego cognovi te in deserto,I knew you in the desert,in terra solitudinis.in the land of solitude.
Juxta pascua sua adimpleti suntAccording to their pastures,et saturati sunt;they have been filled up and have been satisfied.et levaverunt cor suum,And they have lifted up their heart,et obliti sunt mei.and they have forgotten me.
Et ego ero eis quasi leæna,And I will be to them like a lioness, sicut pardus in via Assyriorum.like a leopard in the way of the Assyrians.
Occurram eis quasi ursa raptis catulis,I will run to meet them like a bear that has been robbed of her young,et dirumpam interiora jecoris eorum, and I will split open the middle of their liver.et consumam eos ibi quasi leo:And I will devour them there like a lion;bestia agri scindet eos.the beast of the field will tear them apart.
Perditio tua,Perdition is yours,Israël:Israel.tantummodo in me auxilium tuum.Your help is only in me.
Ubi est rex tuus?Where is your king?maxime nunc salvet te in omnibus urbibus tuis; Now, especially, let him save you in all your cities,et judices tui,and from your judges,de quibus dixisti:about whom you said,Da mihi regem et principes.“Give me kings and princes.”
Dabo tibi regem in furore meo,I will give you a king in my wrath,et auferam in indignatione mea.and I will take him away in my indignation.
Colligata est iniquitas Ephraim; The iniquity of Ephraim has been bound;absconditum peccatum ejus.his sin has been engulfed.
Dolores parturientis venient ei:The pains of giving birth will reach him.ipse filius non sapiens:He is an unwise son.nunc enim non stabit in contritione filiorum. For now he will not remain firm during the contrition of his sons.
De manu mortis liberabo eos;I will free them from the hand of death;de morte redimam eos.from death I will redeem them.Ero mors tua,Death,o mors!I will be your death.morsus tuus ero,Hell, inferne!I will be your deadly wound.consolatio abscondita est ab oculis meis.Consolation is hidden from my eyes.
Quia ipse inter fratres dividet:For he will make a division among brothers.adducet urentem ventum Dominus de deserto ascendentem,The Lord will bring a burning wind, rising up from the desert,et siccabit venas ejus, and it will dry up his streams,et desolabit fontem ejus:and it will make his fountain desolate,et ipse diripiet thesaurum omnis vasis desiderabilis.and he will tear apart every collection of desirable useful things.
