Misit quoque Hiram rex Tyri nuntios ad David,Also, Hiram, the king of Tyre,et ligna cedrina, sent messengers to David,et artifices parietum, lignorumque, and cedar wood, and artisans of walls and of wood,ut ædificarent ei domum.so that they might build a house for him.
Cognovitque David quod confirmasset eum Dominus in regem super Israël,And David realized that the Lord had confirmed him as king over Israel,et sublevatum esset regnum suum super populum ejus Israël.and that his kingdom had been lifted up over his people Israel.
Accepit quoque David alias uxores in Jerusalem,Also, genuitque filiosDavid took other wives in Jerusalem.et filias. And he conceived sons and daughters.
Et hæc nomina eorum, qui nati sunt ei in Jerusalem:And these are the names of those who were born to him in Jerusalem:Samua, et Sobab,Shammua and Shobab,Nathan, et Salomon,Nathan and Solomon,
Jebahar,Ibhar,et Elisua,and Elishua,et Eliphalet,and Elpelet,
Noga quoque,as well as Nogah,et Napheg,and Nepheg,et Japhia,and Japhia,

Audientes autem Philisthiim eo quod unctus esset David regem super universum Israël,Then, hearing that David had been anointed as king over all of Israel, ascenderunt omnes ut quærerent eum:all the Philistines ascended so that they might seek him.quod cum audisset David,But when David had heard of it,egressus est obviam eis.he went out to meet them.
Porro Philisthiim venientes,Now the Philistines, arriving, diffusi sunt in valle Raphaim.spread out in the Valley of the Rephaim.
Consuluitque David Dominum,And so David consulted the Lord, dicens:saying,Si ascendam ad Philisthæos,“Shall I ascend to the Philistines,et si trades eos in manu mea?and will you deliver them into my hand?”Et dixit ei Dominus:And the Lord said to him,Ascende,“Ascend,et tradam eos in manu tua.and I will deliver them into your hand.”
Cumque illi ascendissent in Baalpharasim,And when they had ascended to Baal-perazim,percussit eos ibi David,David struck them there,et dixit:and he said:Divisit Deus inimicos meos per manum meam,“God has divided my enemies by my hand, sicut dividuntur aquæ:just as waters are divided.”et idcirco vocatum est nomen illius loci Baalpharasim. And therefore the name of that place was called Baal-perazim.
Dereliqueruntque ibi deos suos,And they left behind their gods in that place, quos David jussit exuri.and so David ordered them to be burned.
Alia etiam vice Philisthiim irruerunt,And then, at another time, the Philistines invaded,et diffusi sunt in valle.and they spread out in the valley.
Consuluitque rursum David Deum,And again, David consulted God.et dixit ei Deus:And God said to him:Non ascendas post eos:“You shall not ascend after them.recede ab eis,Draw away from them.et venies contra illos ex adverso pyrorum. And you shall come against them opposite the balsam trees.
Cumque audieris sonitum gradientis in cacumine pyrorum,And when you hear a sound approaching in the tops of the balsam trees, tunc egredieris ad bellum:then you shall go forth to war.egressus est enim Deus ante te,For God has gone forth before you,ut percutiat castra Philisthiim.so that he may strike down the army of the Philistines.”
Fecit ergo David sicut præceperat ei Deus,Therefore, David did just as God had instructed him.et percussit castra Philisthinorum,And he struck down the army of the Philistines,de Gabaon usque Gazera.from Gibeon as far as Gazera.
Divulgatumque est nomen David in universis regionibus,And the name of David became well-known in all the regions.et Dominus dedit pavorem ejus super omnes gentes. And the Lord placed the fear of him over all the nations.
