1Locutusque est David rex ad omnem ecclesiam:And king David spoke to the entire assembly:Salomonem filium meum unum elegit Deus,“My son Solomon, the one God has chosen,adhuc puerum et tenellum:is still a tender boy.opus namque grande est,And yet the work is great,neque enim homini præparatur habitatio,for a habitation is being prepared, not for man,sed Deo.but for God.
2Ego autem totis viribus meis præparavi impensas domus Dei mei.Now with all my ability, I have prepared the expenses for the house of my God:Aurum ad vasa aurea,gold for items of gold,et argentum in argentea,and silver for those of silver,æs in ænea,brass for those of brass,ferrum in ferrea,iron for those of iron,ligna ad lignea: et lapides onychinos,and wood for those of wood, and stones of onyx,et quasi stibinos,and stones like alabaster,et diversorum colorum,and stones of diverse colors,omnemque pretiosum lapidem,and every kind of precious stone,et marmor Parium abundantissime:and marble from Paros in great abundance.
3et super hæc quæ obtuli in domum Dei mei de peculio meo aurum et argentum,And in addition to these things that I have offered into the house of my God, I give, from my own belongings,do in templum Dei mei,gold and silver for the temple of my God,exceptis his quæ præparavi in ædem sanctam.aside from those things that I have prepared for the holy shrine:
4Tria millia talenta auri de auro Ophir,three thousand talents of gold, from the gold of Ophir,et septem millia talentorum argenti probatissimi ad deaurandos parietes templi.and seven thousand talents of highly-refined silver, for the gilding of the walls of the temple;
5Et ubicumque opus est aurum de auro,and gold for wherever there is need of gold,et ubicumque opus est argentum de argento,and silver for wherever there is need of silver,opera fiant per manus artificum:for the works to be done by the hands of the artisans.et si quis sponte offert,And if anyone freely offers,impleat manum suam hodie,let him fill his hand this day,et offerat quod voluerit Domino.and let him offer whatever he wishes to the Lord.”
6Polliciti sunt itaque principes familiarum,And so the leaders of the families,et proceres tribuum Israël, tribuni quoque,and the nobles of the tribes of Israel,et centuriones, et principes possessionum regis.as well as the tribunes and the centurions and the overseers of the king’s possessions, promised
7Dederuntque in opera domus Dei auri talenta quinque millia,and gave,et solidos decem millia:for the works of the house of the Lord,argenti talenta decem millia,five thousand talents and ten thousand pieces of gold,et æris talenta decemten thousand talents of silver,et octo millia:and eighteen thousand talents of brass,ferri quoque centum millia talentorum.and also one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8Et apud quemcumque inventi sunt lapides,And whoever found precious stones among their belongings gave them to the treasuries of the house of the Lord,dederunt in thesauros domus Domini per manum Jahiel Gersonitis.by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9Lætatusque est populus cum vota sponte promitterent,And the people rejoiced,quia corde toto offerebant ea Domino:since they were promising their votive offerings willingly.sedFor they were offering these to the Lord with all their heart.et David rex lætatus est gaudio magno.And king David also rejoiced with great gladness.
10Et benedixit Domino coram universa multitudine,And he blessed the Lord before the entire multitude,et ait:and he said:Benedictus es,“Blessed are you,Domine Deus Israël patris nostri,O Lord God of Israel,ab æterno in æternum.our Father from eternity to eternity.
11Tua est,Yours,Domine,O Lord,magnificentia, et potentia, et gloria,is magnificence and power and glory,atque victoria:and also victory;et tibi laus:and to you is praise.cuncta enim quæ in cælo sunt et in terra, tua sunt:For all the things that are in heaven and on earth are yours.tuum, Domine, regnum,Yours is the kingdom,et tu es super omnes principes.O Lord, and you are above all rulers.
12Tuæ divitiæ,Yours is wealth,et tua est gloria:and yours is glory.tu dominaris omnium. In manu tua virtus et potentia:You have dominion over all things. In your hand is virtue and power.in manu tua magnitudo, et imperium omnium.In your hand is greatness and authority over all things.
13Nunc igitur Deus noster, confitemur tibi,Now therefore, we confess to you,et laudamus nomen tuum inclytum.our God, and we praise your famous name.
14Quis ego,Who am I,et quis populus meus,and what is my people,ut possimus hæc tibi universa promittere?that we should be able to promise all these things to you?Tua sunt omnia:All is yours.et quæ de manu tua accepimus,And so the things that we received from your hand,dedimus tibi.we have given to you.
15Peregrini enim sumus coram te,For we are sojournerset advenæ,and new arrivals before you,sicut omnes patres nostri.as all our fathers were.Dies nostri quasi umbra super terram,Our days upon the earth are like a shadow,et nulla est mora.and there is no delay.
16Domine Deus noster,O Lord our God,omnis hæc copia quam paravimus ut ædificaretur domus nomini sancto tuo,all this abundance, which we have prepared so that a house may be built to your holy name,de manu tua est,is from your hand,et tua sunt omnia.and all things are yours.
17Scio,I know,Deus meus, quod probes corda,my God, that you test hearts,et simplicitatem diligas,and that you love simplicity.unde et ego in simplicitate cordis mei lætus obtuli universa hæc:Therefore, in the simplicity of my heart, I also have offered all these things joyfully.et populum tuum qui hic repertus est,And I have seen, with immense gladness, your people,vidi cum ingenti gaudio tibi offerre donaria.who have been found here, offering their donations to you.
18Domine Deus Abraham,O Lord,et Isaac,the God of our fathers Abraham and Isaac and Israel,et Israël patrum nostrorum,preserve unto eternity this desire of their heart,custodi in æternum hanc voluntatem cordis eorum,and let this purpose remain forever,et semper in venerationem tui mens ista permaneat.for the worship of you.
19Salomoni quoque filio meo da cor perfectum,Also, I give to my son Solomon a perfect heart,ut custodiat mandata tua,so that he may keep your commandments,testimonia tua,your testimonies,et cæremonias tuas, et faciat universa:and your ceremonies, and so that he may accomplish all things,et ædificet ædem,and may build the temple,cujus impensas paravi.for which I have prepared the expenses.”
20Præcepit autem David universæ ecclesiæ:Then David instructed the entire assembly:Benedicite Domino Deo nostro.“Bless the Lord our God.”Et benedixit omnis ecclesia Domino Deo patrum suorum:And the entire assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers.et inclinaverunt se,And they bowed themselves,et adoraverunt Deum, et deinde regem.and they adored God, and next they reverenced the king.
21Immolaveruntque victimas Domino:And they immolated victims to the Lord.et obtulerunt holocausta die sequenti, tauros mille,And they offered holocausts on the following day:arietes mille,one thousand bulls,agnos mille cum libaminibus suis,one thousand rams, one thousand lambs,et universo ritu abundantissime in omnem Israël.with their libations and with every ritual, very abundantly, for all of Israel.
22Et comederunt, et biberunt coram Domino in die illo cum grandi lætitia.And they ate and drank before the Lord on that day, with great rejoicing.Et unxerunt secundo Salomonem filium David.And they anointed Solomon, the son of David, a second time.Unxerunt autem eum Domino in principem,And they anointed him to the Lord as the ruler,et Sadoc in pontificem.and Zadok as the high priest.
23Seditque Salomon super solium Domini in regem pro David patre suo,And Solomon sat upon the throne of the Lord as king, in place of his father David,et cunctis placuit:and it pleased everyone.et paruit illi omnis Israël.And all of Israel obeyed him.
24SedMoreover,et universi principes,all the leaders,et potentes,and the powerful,et cuncti filii regis David dederunt manum,and all the sons of king David pledged with their hand,et subjecti fuerunt Salomoni regi.and they became subject to king Solomon.
25Magnificavit ergo Dominus Salomonem super omnem Israël:Then the Lord magnified Solomon over all of Israel.et dedit illi gloriam regni,And he gave to him a glorious reign,qualem nullus habuit ante eum rex Israël.of a kind such as no one has had before him, as king of Israel.
26Igitur David filius Isai regnavit super universum Israël.Now David, the son of Jesse, reigned over all of Israel.
27Et dies quibus regnavit super Israël, fuerunt quadraginta anni:And the days during which he reigned over Israel were forty years.in Hebron regnavit septem annis,He reigned seven years in Hebron,et in Jerusalem annis triginta tribus.and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
28Et mortuus est in senectute bona,And he died at a good old age,plenus dierum,full of dayset divitiis,and wealthet gloria:and glory.et regnavit Salomon filius ejus pro eo.And his son Solomon reigned in his place.
29Gesta autem David regis priora et novissima scripta sunt in libro Samuelis videntis,Now the acts of king David, from the first to the last, have been written in the book of Samuel the seer,et in libro Nathan prophetæ,and in the book of Nathan the prophet,atque in volumine Gad videntis:and in the book of Gad the seer,
30universique regni ejus,concerning his entire reignet fortitudinis,and strength,et temporum quæ transierunt sub eo,and the times that passed under him,sive in Israël,both in Israelsive in cunctis regnis terrarum.and in all the kingdoms of the lands.
