Azarias autem filius Oded,Now Azariah, the son of Oded, facto in se spiritu Dei,had the Spirit of God within him.
egressus est in occursum Asa, et dixit ei:And he went out to meet Asa, and he said to him:Audite me,“Listen to me,Asa, et omnis Juda et Benjamin:Asa and all of Judah and Benjamin.Dominus vobiscum,The Lord is with you, quia fuistis cum eo. Si quæsieritis eum, because you have been with him. If you seek him, invenietis: si autem dereliqueritis eum,you will find him. But if you abandon him, derelinquet vos.he will abandon you.
Transibant autem multi dies in Israël absque Deo vero,Then many days will pass in Israel, apart from the true God,et absque sacerdote doctore, and apart from a learned priest,et absque lege.and apart from the law.
Cumque reversi fuerint in angustia sua ad Dominum Deum Israël,And when, in their anguish, they will have returned to the Lord,et quæsierint eum,the God of Israel, and will have sought him, reperient eum.they shall find him.
In tempore illo, non erit pax egredienti et ingredienti,In that time, there will be no peace for those who depart and those who enter.sed terrores undique in cunctis habitatoribus terrarum:Instead, there will be terror on every side, among all the inhabitants of the lands.
pugnavit enim gens contra gentem,For nation will fight against nation,et civitas contra civitatem, and city against city.quia Dominus conturbabit eos in omni angustia. For the Lord will disturb them with every anguish.
Vos ergo confortamini,But as for you, be strengthened,et non dissolvantur manus vestræ:and do not let your hands be weakened.erit enim merces operi vestro. For there will be a reward for your work.”
Quod cum audisset Asa,And when Asa had heard these particular words, verba scilicet, and the prophecy of the prophet Azariah,et prophetiam Azariæ filii Oded prophetæ,the son of Oded, confortatus est,he was strengthened,et abstulit idola de omni terra Judaand he took away the idols from the entire land of Judah,et de Benjamin, and from Benjamin,et ex urbibus quas ceperat, and from the cities that he had seized of mount Ephraim, montis Ephraim:and he dedicated the altar of the Lord,et dedicavit altare Domini quod erat ante porticum Domini.which was before the portico of the Lord.
Congregavitque universum Judam et Benjamin,And he gathered together all of Judah and Benjamin,et advenas cum eis de Ephraim, et de Manasse, et de Simeon:and with them the new arrivals from Ephraim and Manasseh and Simeon.plures enim ad eum confugerant ex Israël,For many had fled to him from Israel, videntes quod Dominus Deus illius esset cum eo.seeing that the Lord his God was with him.
Cumque venissent in Jerusalem mense tertio,And when they had arrived in Jerusalem, in the third month, anno decimoquinto regni Asa,in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa,
immolaverunt Domino in die illa de manubiis et præda quam adduxerant, they immolated to the Lord on that day, boves septingentos, from the best of the spoils and from the plunder that they had brought:et arietes septem millia.seven hundred oxen and seven thousand rams.
Et intravit ex more ad corroborandum fœdus ut quærerent Dominum Deum patrum suorum in toto corde, et in tota anima sua.And he entered, according to custom, in order to confirm the covenant, so that they would seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with their whole heart and with their whole soul.
Si quis autem,“But if anyone,”inquit,he said, non quæsierit Dominum Deum Israël,“will not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, moriatur, let him die,a minimo usque ad maximum, from the least even to the greatest,a viro usque ad mulierem.from man even to woman.”
Juraveruntque Domino voce magna in jubilo,And they swore to the Lord, with a great voice, in jubilation,et in clangore tubæ,and with the blare of trumpets,et in sonitu buccinarum, and with the sound of horns,
omnes qui erant in Juda, cum execratione:all who were in Judah swore with a curse.in omni enim corde suo juraverunt,For with all their heart they swore,et in tota voluntate quæsierunt eum, et invenerunt:and with all their will they sought and found him.præstititque eis Dominus requiem per circuitum. And the Lord granted rest on all sides to them.
Sed et Maacham matrem Asa regis ex augusto deposuit imperio,Then too, Maacah, the mother of king Asa,eo quod fecisset in luco simulacrum Priapi:he deposed from the august authority, because she had made an idol of Priapus within a sacred grove.quod omne contrivit,And he entirely crushed it,et in frustra comminuens combussit in torrente Cedron.breaking it into pieces, and he burned it at the torrent Kidron.
Excelsa autem derelicta sunt in Israël:But some high places were left in Israel.attamen cor Asa erat perfectum cunctis diebus ejus,Even so, the heart of Asa was perfect during all his days.
eaque quæ voverat pater suus,And whatever his fatheret ipse,or he himself had vowed, intulit in domum Domini,he brought into the house of the Lord:argentum, silveret aurum, and gold, vasorumque diversam supellectilem.and vessels for various uses.
Bellum vero non fuit usque ad trigesimum quintum annum regni Asa.Truly, there was no war, until the thirty-fifth year of the kingdom of Asa.
