Misit quoque Ezechias ad omnem Israël et Judam:Also, Hezekiah sent to all of Israel and Judah.scripsitque epistolas ad Ephraim et Manassen ut venirent ad domum Domini in Jerusalem,And he wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, so that they would come to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem,et facerent Phase Domino Deo Israël.and so that they would keep the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel.
Inito ergo consilio regis et principum,Therefore, having taken counsel, the king and the rulers,et universi cœtus Jerusalem, and the entire assembly of Jerusalem, decreverunt ut facerent Phase mense secundo.resolved that they would keep the Passover, in the second month.
Non enim potuerant facere in tempore suo,For they had not been able to keep it at its proper time.quia sacerdotes qui possent sufficere,For the priests, who were unable to suffice, sanctificati non fuerant, had not been sanctified.et populus nondum congregatus fuerat in Jerusalem. And the people had not yet been gathered together in Jerusalem.
Placuitque sermo regi,And the word was pleasing to the king,et omni multitudini.and to the entire multitude.
Et decreverunt ut mitterent nuntios in universum Israël,And they resolved that they would send messengers to all of Israel,de Bersabee usque Dan,from Beersheba even to Dan,ut venirent, et facerent Phase Domino Deo Israël in Jerusalem:so that they might come and keep the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel, multi enim non fecerant sicut lege præscriptum est.at Jerusalem. For many had not kept it, just as it was prescribed by the law.
Perrexeruntque cursores cum epistolis ex regis imperio,And carriers traveled with the letters,et principum ejus,by order of the king and his rulers,in universum Israëlto all of Israel and Judah,et Judam, proclaiming, juxta id quod rex jusserat,in accord with what the king had ordered:prædicantes:“O sons of Israel,Filii Israël,return to the Lord, revertimini ad Dominum Deum Abraham, the God of Abraham,et Isaac, and Isaac,et Israël:and Israel.et revertetur ad reliquias quæ effugerunt manum regis Assyriorum. And he will return to the remnant who escaped from the hand of the king of the Assyrians.
Nolite fieri sicut patres vestriDo not choose to be like your fathers and brothers,et fratres, who withdrew from the Lord, qui recesserunt a Domino Deo patrum suorum, the God of their fathers.qui tradidit eos in interitum,And so he delivered them over to destruction,ut ipsi cernitis.as you yourselves discern.
Nolite indurare cervices vestras,Do not choose to harden your necks, sicut patres vestri: tradite manus Domino,as your fathers did. Surrender to the hands of the Lord.et venite ad sanctuarium ejus quod sanctificavit in æternum:And go to his Sanctuary, which he has sanctified unto eternity.servite Domino Deo patrum vestrorum,Serve the Lord, the God of your fathers,et avertetur a vobis ira furoris ejus.and the fury of his wrath will be turned away from you.
Si enim vos reversi fueritis ad Dominum,For if you will return to the Lord, fratres vestri et filii habebunt misericordiam coram dominis suis, your brothers and sons will find mercy before their masters, qui illos duxerunt captivos, who led them away as captives,et revertentur in terram hanc:and they will be returned to this land.pius enim et clemens est Dominus Deus vester,For the Lord your God is compassionate and lenient,et non avertet faciem suam a vobis, and he will not avert his face from you,si reversi fueritis ad eum.if you will return to him.”
Igitur cursores pergebant velociter de civitate in civitatem per terram Ephraim et Manasse usque ad Zabulon,And so, the carriers were traveling quickly from city to city, throughout the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, illis irridentibus et subsannantibus eos.as far as Zebulun, though they were ridiculing and mocking them.
Attamen quidam viri ex Aser,Even so, certain men from Asher,et Manasse, and from Manasseh,et Zabulon acquiescentes consilio, and from Zebulun, acquiescing to this counsel, venerunt Jerusalem.went to Jerusalem.
In Juda vero facta est manus Domini ut daret eis cor unum,Truly, the hand of God was working in Judah, to give them one heart,ut facerent juxta præceptum regis et principum verbum Domini.so that they would accomplish the word of the Lord, according to the precept of the king and of the rulers.
Congregatique sunt in Jerusalem populi multi ut facerent solemnitatem azymorum,And many people gathered together in Jerusalem, so that they could keep the solemnity of unleavened bread,in mense secundo:in the second month.
et surgentes destruxerunt altaria quæ erant in Jerusalem,And rising up, they destroyed the altars which were in Jerusalem, atque universa in quibus idolis adolebatur incensum, subvertentes, and all the things in which incense was burned to idols. Overturning these things, projecerunt in torrentem Cedron.they cast them into the torrent Kidron.
Immolaverunt autem Phase quartadecima die mensis secundi. Then they immolated the Passover on the fourteenth day of the second month.Sacerdotes quoque atque Levitæ tandem sanctificati,Also, the priests and Levites, at length having been sanctified, obtulerunt holocausta in domo Domini:offered the holocausts in the house of the Lord.
steteruntque in ordine suo juxta dispositionem et legem Moysi hominis Dei: sacerdotes vero suscipiebant effundendum sanguinem de manibus Levitarum,And they stood in their order, according to the disposition and law of Moses, the man of God. Yet truly, the priests took up the blood, which was to be poured out, from the hands of the Levites,
eo quod multa turba sanctificata non esset:because a great number were not sanctified. And therefore,et idcirco immolarent Levitæ Phase his qui non occurrerant sanctificari Domino.the Levites immolated the Passover for those who had not been sanctified to the Lord in time.
Magna etiam pars populi de Ephraim,And now a great portion of the people from Ephraim,et Manasse, and Manasseh,et Issachar, and Issachar,et Zabulon, and Zebulun,quæ sanctificata non fuerat, who had not been sanctified, comedit Phase non juxta quod scriptum est:ate the Passover, which is not in accord with what was written.et oravit pro eis Ezechias,And Hezekiah prayed for them, dicens:saying:Dominus bonus propitiabitur“The good Lord will be forgiving
cunctis,to all who,qui in toto corde requirunt Dominum Deum patrum suorum:with their whole heart, seek the Lord, the God of their fathers.et non imputabit eis quod minus sanctificati sunt. And he will not impute it to them, though they have not been sanctified.”
Quem exaudivit Dominus,And the Lord heeded him,et placatus est populo.and was reconciled to the people.
Feceruntque filii Israël,And the sons of Israel who were found at Jerusalem kept the solemnity of unleavened bread for seven days with great rejoicing, qui inventi sunt in Jerusalem, praising the Lord throughout each day, solemnitatem azymorum septem diebus in lætitia magna, with the Leviteslaudantes Dominum per singulos dies:and the priests,Levitæ quoque et sacerdotes per organa quæ suo officio congruebant.accompanied by the musical instruments corresponding to their office.
Et locutus est Ezechias ad cor omnium Levitarum qui habebant intelligentiam bonam super Domino:And Hezekiah spoke to the heart of all the Levites, who had a good understanding concerning the Lord.et comederunt septem diebus solemnitatis,And they ate during the seven days of the solemnity, immolantes victimas pacificorum, immolating victims of peace offerings,et laudantes Dominum Deum patrum suorum.and praising the Lord, the God of their fathers.
Placuitque universæ multitudini ut celebrarent etiam alios dies septem:And it pleased the entire multitude that they should celebrate, quodeven for another seven days.et fecerunt cum ingenti gaudio. And they did this with enormous gladness.
Ezechias enim rex Juda præbuerat multitudini mille tauros, et septem millia ovium: principes vero dederant populo tauros mille, et oves decem millia: sanctificata est ergo sacerdotum plurima multitudo. For Hezekiah, the king of Judah, had offered to the multitude one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep. Truly, the rulers had given the people one thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep. Then a great multitude of priests was sanctified.
Et hilaritate perfusa omnis turba Juda,And the whole multitude of Judah, tam sacerdotum et Levitarum,as much the priests and Levites as the entire crowd that had arrived from Israel, quam universæ frequentiæ quæ venerat ex Israël:and also the converts from the land of Israel, proselytorum quoque de terra Israël,and those with a habitation in Judah,et habitantium in Juda.was overflowing with cheerfulness.
Factaque est grandis celebritas in Jerusalem,And there was a great celebration in Jerusalem, qualis a diebus Salomonis filii David regis Israël in ea urbe non fuerat.to such an extent as had not been in that city since the days of Solomon, the son of David, the king of Israel.
Surrexerunt autem sacerdotes atque Levitæ benedicentes populo:Then the priests and Levites rose up and blessed the people.et exaudita est vox eorum,And their voice was heeded.pervenitque oratio in habitaculum sanctum cæli.And their prayer reached the holy habitation of heaven.
