Intulit igitur Salomon omnia quæ voverat David pater suus:Then Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had vowed, argentum, the silver,et aurum, and the gold,et universa vasa posuit in thesauris domus Dei.and all the vessels, which he placed in the treasuries of the house of God.
Post quæ congregavit majores natu Israël,After this, he gathered together those greater by birth of Israel,et cunctos principes tribuum, and all the leaders of the tribes,et capita familiarum de filiis Israël in Jerusalem, and the heads of the families, from the sons of Israel, to Jerusalem,ut adducerent arcam fœderis Domini de civitate David,so that they might bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the City of David,quæ est Sion.which is Zion.
Venerunt itaque ad regem omnes viri Israël in die solemni mensis septimi. And so, all the men of Israel went to the king, on the solemn day of the seventh month.
Cumque venissent cuncti seniorum Israël,And when all the elders of Israel had arrived, portaverunt Levitæ arcam, the Levites carried the ark,
et intulerunt eam,and they brought it in,et omnem paraturam tabernaculi.along with all the equipment of the tabernacle.Porro vasa sanctuarii,Then too,quæ erant in tabernaculo, the priests with the Levites carried the vessels of the sanctuary, portaverunt sacerdotes cum Levitis.which were in the tabernacle.
Rex autem Salomon,Now king Solomon,et universus cœtus Israël,and the entire assembly of Israel,et omnes qui fuerunt congregati ante arcam, and all who had gathered together before the ark, immolabant arietes et boves absque ullo numero:were immolating rams and oxen without any number, tanta enim erat multitudo victimarum.for so great was the multitude of the victims.
Et intulerunt sacerdotes arcam fœderis Domini in locum suum,And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place,id est, that is,ad oraculum templi,to the oracle of the temple,in Sancta sanctorum subter alas cherubim:in the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim,
ita ut cherubim expanderent alas suas super locum in quo posita erat arca,so that the cherubim extended their wings over the place where the ark was positioned,et ipsam arcam tegerent cum vectibus suis.and they covered the ark itself and its bars.
Vectium autem quibus portabatur arca,But concerning the bars by which the ark was carried, quia paululum longiores erant, because they were a little longer, capita parebant ante oraculum:the ends were able to be seen before the oracle.si vero quis paululum fuisset extrinsecus,Yet truly, if anyone were a little ways toward the exterior, eos videre non poterat.he would not be able to see them.Fuit itaque arca ibi usque in præsentem diem. And so the ark has been in that place, even to the present day.
Nihilque erat aliud in arca, nisi duæ tabulæ quas posuerat Moyses in Horeb, quando legem dedit Dominus filiis Israël egredientibus ex Ægypto. And there was nothing else in the ark, except the two tablets, which Moses had placed there at Horeb when the Lord gave the law to the sons of Israel, at the departure from Egypt.
Egressis autem sacerdotibus de sanctuario (omnes enim sacerdotes qui ibi potuerant inveniri,And having gone out from the Sanctuary, sanctificati sunt:the priests (for all the priests who were able to be found there were sanctified, nec adhuc in illo tempore vices et ministeriorum ordo inter eos divisus erat),and in that time the turns and orders of the ministries had not yet been divided among them)
tam Levitæ quam cantores, with both the Levites and the singing men,id est, that is,et qui sub Asaph erant, et qui sub Eman, those who were under Asaph, and those who were under Heman,et qui sub Idithun, and those who were under Jeduthun, filii et fratres eorum vestiti byssinis, with their sons and brothers, clothed in fine linen, cymbalis, et psalteriis, sounded out with cymbals,et citharis concrepabant, and psalteries, and harps, stantes ad orientalem plagam altaris:standing toward the eastern side of the altar.et cum eis sacerdotes centum viginti canentes tubis. And with them were one hundred twenty priests, sounding out with trumpets.
Igitur cunctis pariter, et tubis,And when they all sounded out together,et voce, et cymbalis, with trumpets, and voice,et organis, and cymbals,et diversi generis musicorum concinentibus, and pipes, and with various kinds of musical instruments,et vocem in sublime tollentibus, longe sonitus audiebatur, lifting their voice on high, the sound was heard from far away, ita ut cum Dominum laudare cœpissent et dicere:so that when they had begun to praise the Lord, and to say,Confitemini Domino quoniam bonus,“Confess to the Lord, for he is good;quoniam in æternum misericordia ejus: impleretur domus Dei nube, for his mercy is eternal,” the house of God was filled with a cloud.
nec possent sacerdotes stareNeither were the priests able to stand and to minister,et ministrare propter caliginem.because of the cloud.Compleverat enim gloria Domini domum Dei.For the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.
