Canticum graduum. Memento,A Canticle in steps.Domine,O Lord,David, et omnis mansuetudinis ejus:remember David and all his meekness,
sicut juravit Domino;how he swore to the Lord,votum vovit Deo Jacob:how he made a vow to the God of Jacob:
Si introiero in tabernaculum domus meæ;I shall not enter into the tabernacle of my house,si ascendero in lectum strati mei;nor climb into the bed where I lie down;
si dedero somnum oculis meis,I shall not give sleep to my eyes,et palpebris meis dormitationem,nor slumber to my eyelids
et requiem temporibus meis,and rest to my temples,donec inveniam locum Domino,until I find a place for the Lord,tabernaculum Deo Jacob.a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.
Ecce audivimus eam in Ephrata;Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah.invenimus eam in campis silvæ.We discovered it in the fields of the forest.
Introibimus in tabernaculum ejus;We will enter into his tabernacle.adorabimus in loco ubi steterunt pedes ejus.We will adore in the place where his feet stood.
Surge,Rise up,Domine,O Lord,in requiem tuam,into your resting place.tu et arca sanctificationis tuæ.You and the ark of your sanctification.
Sacerdotes tui induantur justitiam,Let your priests be clothed with justice,et sancti tui exsultent.and let your saints exult.
Propter David servum tuum non avertas faciem christi tui.For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your Christ.
Juravit Dominus David veritatem,The Lord has sworn the truth to David,et non frustrabitur eam:and he will not disappoint:De fructu ventris tui ponam super sedem tuam.I will set upon your throne from the fruit of your lineage.
Si custodierint filii tui testamentum meum,If your sons will keep my covenant and these,et testimonia mea hæc quæ docebo eos,my testimonies, which I will teach to them,et filii eorum usque in sæculum sedebunt super sedem tuam.then their sons will sit upon your throne even forever.
Quoniam elegit Dominus Sion:For the Lord has chosen Zion.elegit eam in habitationem sibi.He has chosen it as his dwelling place.
Hæc requies mea in sæculum sæculi;This is my resting place, forever and ever.hic habitabo,Here I will dwell,quoniam elegi eam.for I have chosen it.
Viduam ejus benedicens benedicam;When blessing, I will bless her widow.pauperes ejus saturabo panibus.I will satisfy her poor with bread.
Sacerdotes ejus induam salutari,I will clothe her priests with salvation,et sancti ejus exsultatione exsultabunt.and her saints will rejoice with great joy.
Illuc producam cornu David;There, I will produce a horn to David.paravi lucernam christo meo.There, I have prepared a lamp for my Christ.
Inimicos ejus induam confusione;I will clothe his enemies with confusion.super ipsum autem efflorebit sanctificatio mea.But my sanctification will flourish over him.
