Et dixit David:And David said,Putasne est aliquis qui remanserit de domo Saul,“Do you think that there could be anyone left from the house of Saul,ut faciam cum eo misericordiam propter Jonathan?so that I might show mercy to him because of Jonathan?”

Erat autem de domo Saul servus nomine Siba:Now there was, from the house of Saul, a servant named Ziba.quem cum vocasset rex ad se,And when the king had called him to himself, dixit ei:he said to him,Tune es Siba?“Are you not Ziba?”Et ille respondit:And he responded,Ego sum servus tuus.“I am your servant.”

Et ait rex:And the king said,Numquid superest aliquis de domo Saul,“Could there be anyone alive from the house of Saul,ut faciam cum eo misericordiam Dei?so that I may show the mercy of God to him?”Dixitque Siba regi:And Ziba said to the king,Superest filius Jonathæ,“There is left alive a son of Jonathan, debilis pedibus.with disabled feet.”

Ubi, inquit,“Where is he?”est?he said.Et Siba ad regem:And Ziba said to the king,Ecce,“Behold, ait, in domo est Machir filii Ammiel,he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel,in Lodabar.in Lodebar.”

Misit ergo rex David, et tulit eum de domo Machir filii Ammiel, de Lodabar. Therefore, king David sent and brought him from the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.

Cum autem venisset Miphiboseth filius Jonathæ filii Saul ad David,And when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, corruit in faciem suam, had come to David, he fell upon his face,et adoravit.and he reverenced.Dixitque David:And David said,Miphiboseth?“Mephibosheth?”Qui respondit:And he responded,Adsum servus tuus.“Your servant is here.”

Et ait ei David:And David said to him:Ne timeas,“Do not be afraid.quia faciens faciam in te misericordiam propter Jonathan patrem tuum,For I will certainly show mercy to you because of your father Jonathan.et restituam tibi omnes agros Saul patris tui:And I will restore to you all the fields of your father Saul.et tu comedes panem in mensa mea semper. And you shall eat bread at my table always.”

Qui adorans eum,And reverencing him, dixit:he said,Quis ego sum servus tuus,“Who am I, your servant, quoniam respexisti super canem mortuum similem mei?that you should look with favor upon a dead dog like me?”

Vocavit itaque rex Sibam puerum Saul,And so, the king called Ziba, the servant of Saul,et dixit ei:and he said to him:Omnia quæcumque fuerunt Saul,“Everything whatsoever that belonged to Saul,et universam domum ejus, dedi filio domini tui.and his entire house, I have given to the son of your lord.

Operare igitur ei terram tu,And so, work the land for him,et filii tui, et servi tui,you and your sons and your servants.et inferes filio domini tui cibos ut alatur:And you shall bring in food for the son of your lord, for nourishment.Miphiboseth autem filius domini tui comedet semper panem super mensam meam. And Mephibosheth, the son of your lord, shall always eat bread at my table.”Erant autem Sibæ quindecim filii, et viginti servi. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

Dixitque Siba ad regem:And Ziba said to the king:Sicut jussisti, domine mi rex, servo tuo,“Just as my lord has ordered your servant, sic faciet servus tuus:so will your servant do.et Miphiboseth comedet super mensam meam,And Mephibosheth shall eat at my table, quasi unus de filiis regis.like one of the sons of the king.”

Habebat autem Miphiboseth filium parvulum nomine Micha:Now Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica. Truly, omnis vero cognatio domus Sibæ serviebat Miphiboseth.all the kindred of the house of Ziba served Mephibosheth.

Porro Miphiboseth habitabat in Jerusalem,But Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem.quia de mensa regis jugiter vescebatur:For he was fed always from the table of the king.et erat claudus utroque pede. And he was lame in both feet.
