In diebus illis ægrotavit Ezechias usque ad mortem:In those days, Hezekiah was sick unto death.et venit ad eum Isaias filius Amos propheta,And the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, dixitque ei:came and said to him:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:“Thus says the Lord God:Præcipe domui tuæ:Instruct your house, morieris enim tu,for you will die,et non vives.and not live.”

Qui convertit faciem suam ad parietem,And he turned his face to the wall,et oravit Dominum, and he prayed to the Lord, dicens:saying:

Obsecro,“I beg you,Domine:O Lord, memento, quæso,I beseech you, quomodo ambulaverim coram te in veritate, remember how I have walked before you in truth,et in corde perfecto, and with a perfect heart,et quod placitum est coram te fecerim.and how I have done what is pleasing before you.”Flevit itaque Ezechias fletu magno. And then Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.

Et antequam egrederetur Isaias mediam partem atrii,And before Isaiah departed from the middle part of the atrium, factus est sermo Domini ad eum,the word of the Lord came to him, dicens:saying:

Revertere,“Return and tell Hezekiah,et dic Ezechiæ duci populi mei:the leader of my people: Thus says the Lord,Hæc dicit Dominus Deus David patris tui:the God of your father David: I have heard your prayer,Audivi orationem tuam, and I have seen your tears.et vidi lacrimas tuas,And behold, I have healed you.et ecce sanavi te:On the third day,die tertio ascendes templum Domini.you shall ascend to the temple of the Lord.

Et addam diebus tuis quindecim annos:And I will add fifteen years to your days.sed et de manu regis Assyriorum liberabo te,Then too,et civitatem hanc:I will free you and this city from the hand of the king of the Assyrians.et protegam urbem istam propter me,And I will protect this city for my own sake,et propter David servum meum.and for the sake of my servant David.”

Dixitque Isaias:And Isaiah said,Afferte massam ficorum.“Bring me a mass of figs.”Quam cum attulissent,And when they had brought it,et posuissent super ulcus ejus, and they had placed it on his sore, curatus est.he was healed.

Dixerat autem Ezechias ad Isaiam:But Hezekiah had said to Isaiah,Quod erit signum, quia Dominus me sanabit,“What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me,et quia ascensurus sum die tertia templum Domini?and that I will ascend to the temple of the Lord on the third day?”

Cui ait Isaias:And Isaiah said to him:Hoc erit signum a Domino quod facturus sit Dominus sermonem quem locutus est:“This will be the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will do the word that he has spoken:vis ut ascendat umbra decem lineis,Do you wish that the shadow may ascend ten lines,an ut revertatur totidem gradibus?or that it may turn back for the same number of degrees?”

Et ait Ezechias:And Hezekiah said:Facile est umbram crescere decem lineis:“It is easy for the shadow to increase for ten lines.nec hoc volo ut fiat,And so I do not wish that this be done.sed ut revertatur retrorsum decem gradibus.Instead, let it turn back for ten degrees.”

Invocavit itaque Isaias propheta Dominum,And so the prophet Isaiah called upon the Lord.et reduxit umbram per lineas quibus jam descenderat in horologio Achaz,And he led back the shadow, along the lines by which it had already descended on the sundial of Ahaz, retrorsum decem gradibus.in reverse for ten degrees.

In tempore illo misit Berodach Baladan,At that time, filius Baladan,Merodach-baladan,rex Babyloniorum, the son of Baladan, litterasthe king of the Babylonians,et munera ad Ezechiam:sent letters and gifts to Hezekiah.audierat enim quod ægrotasset Ezechias. For he had heard that Hezekiah had been ill.

Lætatus est autem in adventu eorum Ezechias,Now Hezekiah rejoiced at their arrival,et ostendit eis domum aromatum, and so he revealed to them the house of aromatic spices,et aurum et argentum, and the gold and silver,et pigmenta varia, and the various pigments and ointments, unguenta quoque, and the house of his vessels,et domum vasorum suorum, and all that he was able to have in his treasuries.et omnia quæ habere poterat in thesauris suis. There was nothing in his house,Non fuit quod non monstraret eis Ezechias in domo sua,nor in all his dominions,et in omni potestate sua.that Hezekiah did not show to them.

Venit autem Isaias propheta ad regem Ezechiam,Then the prophet Isaiah came to king Hezekiah, dixitque ei:and said to him:Quid dixerunt viri isti?“What did these men say?aut unde venerunt ad te?And from where did they come to you?”Cui ait Ezechias:And Hezekiah said to him,De terra longinqua venerunt ad me,“They came to me from Babylon,de Babylone.from a far away land.”

At ille respondit:And he responded,Quid viderunt in domo tua?“What did they see in your house?”Ait Ezechias:And Hezekiah said:Omnia quæcumque sunt in domo mea, viderunt:“They saw all things whatsoever that are in my house.nihil est quod non monstraverim eis in thesauris meis. There is nothing in my treasuries that I did not show to them.”

Dixit itaque Isaias Ezechiæ:And so Isaiah said to Hezekiah:Audi sermonem Domini:“Listen to the word of the Lord.

Ecce dies venient,Behold,et auferentur omnia quæ sunt in domo tua,the days are coming when all that is in your house,et quæ condiderunt patres tui usque in diem hanc, and all that your fathers have stored up even to this day,in Babylonem:will be carried away to Babylon.non remanebit quidquam,Nothing at all shall remain, ait Dominus.says the Lord.

SedThen too,et de filiis tuis qui egredientur ex te,they will take from your sons, quos generabis, who will go forth from you, tollentur, whom you will conceive.et erunt eunuchi in palatio regis Babylonis. And they will be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”

Dixit Ezechias ad Isaiam:Hezekiah said to Isaiah:Bonus sermo Domini quem locutus es:“The word of the Lord, which you have spoken, sit pax et veritas in diebus meis.is good. Let peace and truth be in my days.”

Reliqua autem sermonum Ezechiæ,Now the rest of the words of Hezekiah,et omnis fortitudo ejus, and all his strength,et quomodo fecerit piscinamand how he made a pool,et aquæductum, and an aqueduct,et introduxerit aquas in civitatem, and how he brought waters into the city, nonne hæc scripta sunt in libro sermonum dierum regum Juda?have these not been written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?

Dormivitque Ezechias cum patribus suis,And Hezekiah slept with his fathers.et regnavit Manasses filius ejus pro eo.And Manasseh, his son, reigned in his place.
