Ingressi sunt autem ad Raguelem,And so they went to Raguel,et suscepit eos Raguel cum gaudio.and Raguel received them with gladness.
Intuensque Tobiam Raguel,And Raguel, gazing upon Tobias, dixit Annæ uxori suæ:said to Anna his wife,Quam similis est juvenis iste consobrino meo!“How much like my cousin is this young man!”
Et cum hæc dixisset, ait: Unde estis juvenes fratres nostri? At illi dixerunt: Ex tribu Nephthali sumus, ex captivitate Ninive. And when he had spoken this, he said, “Which of our brethren are you from, young men?”
Dixitque illis Raguel: Nostis Tobiam fratrem meum? But they said, “We are from the tribe of Naphtali,Qui dixerunt: Novimus.from the captivity of Nineveh.”
Cumque multa bona loqueretur de eo,And Raguel said to them, dixit angelus ad Raguelem: Tobias,“Do you know my brother Tobit?”de quo interrogas,They said to him, pater istius est.“We know him.”
Et misit se Raguel,And since he was saying many good things about him,et cum lacrimis osculatus est eum,the Angel said to Raguel,et plorans supra collum ejus“The Tobit about whom you inquire is the father of this young man.”
dixit:And Raguel threw himself towards him and kissed him with tears and weeping upon his neck,Benedictio sit tibi, saying, fili mi,“May a blessing be upon you, quia bonimy son,et optimi viri filius es.because you are the son of a good and most noble man.”
Et Anna uxor ejus,And his wife Anna,et Sara ipsorum filia, and their daughter Sarah, lacrimatæ sunt.were weeping.
Postquam autem locuti sunt,And so, after they had spoken,præcepit Raguel occidi arietem,Raguel instructed a sheep to be killed,et parari convivium.and a feast to be prepared.Cumque hortaretur eos discumbere ad prandium,And when he exhorted them to recline for dinner,
Tobias dixit:Tobias said,Hic ego hodie non manducabo neque bibam,“Here, today, I will not eat or drink, nisi prius petitionem meam confirmes, unless you first confirm my petition,et promittas mihi dare Saram filiam tuam.and promise to give Sarah your daughter to me.”
Quo audito verbo Raguel expavit,When Raguel heard this word, he became afraid, sciens quid evenerit illis septem viris qui ingressi sunt ad eam:knowing what had befallen those seven men, who had approached her.et timere cœpit ne forte et hunc similiter contingeret. And he began to fear, lest it might happen to him also in the same way.Et cum nutaret, et non daret petenti ullum responsum,And, since he wavered and gave no further response to the petition,
dixit ei angelus:the Angel said to him:Noli timere dare eam isti,“Do not be afraid to give her to this one, quoniam huic timenti Deum debetur conjux filia tua:because this one fears God. He is obliged to be joined to your daughter.propterea alius non potuit habere illam.Because of this, no other one could have her.”
Tunc dixit Raguel:Then Raguel said:Non dubito quod Deus preces et lacrimas meas in conspectu suo admiserit.“I do not doubt that God has admitted my prayers and tears before his sight.
Et credo quoniam ideo fecit vos venire ad me,And I believe, therefore, that he has caused you to come to me,ut ista conjungeretur cognationi suæ secundum legem Moysi:so that this one might be joined in marriage to one of her own kindred, according to the law of Moses.et nunc noli dubium gerere quod tibi eam tradam. And now, do not continue to doubt that I will give her to you.”
Et apprehendens dexteram filiæ suæ,And taking the right hand of his daughter, dexteræ Tobiæ tradidit,he gave it into the right hand of Tobias, dicens:saying,Deus Abraham,“May the God of Abraham,et Deus Isaac, and the God of Isaac,et Deus Jacob vobiscum sit,and the God of Jacob be with you.et ipse conjungat vos,And may he join you together in marriageimpleatque benedictionem suam in vobis.and fulfill his blessing in you.”
Et accepta carta,And taking paper, fecerunt conscriptionem conjugii.they made a written record of the marriage.
Et post hæc epulati sunt,And after this, they feasted, benedicentes Deum.blessing God.
Vocavitque Raguel ad se Annam uxorem suam,And Raguel called his wife Anna to him,et præcepit ei ut præpararet alterum cubiculum.and he instructed her to prepare another bedroom.
Et introduxit illuc Saram filiam suam,And she brought her daughter Sarah into it,et lacrimata est.and she was weeping.
Dixitque ei:And she said to her,Forti animo esto,“Be steadfast in spirit, filia mea:my daughter.Dominus cæli det tibi gaudium pro tædio quod perpessa es.May the Lord of heaven give you gladness in place of the grief that you have had to endure.”
