Filii,Children, obedite parentibus vestris in Domino:obey your parents in the Lord, hoc enim justum est.for this is just.

Honora patrem tuum,Honor your fatheret matrem tuam, and your mother.quod est mandatum primum in promissione:This is the first commandment with a promise:

ut bene sit tibi,so that it may be well with you,et sis longævus super terram.and so that you may have a long life upon the earth.

Et vos patres,And you, nolite ad iracundiam provocare filios vestros:fathers, sed educate illos in disciplinado not provoke your children to anger,et correptione Domini.but educate them with the discipline and correction of the Lord.

Servi,Servants, obedite dominis carnalibus cum timorebe obedient to your lords according to the flesh,et tremore, with fear and trembling,in simplicitate cordis vestri,in the simplicity of your heart, sicut Christo:as to Christ.

non ad oculum servientes,Do not serve only when seen, quasi hominibus placentes,as if to please men,sed ut servi Christi, but act as servants of Christ, facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo, doing the will of God from the heart.

cum bona voluntate servientes,Serve with good will, sicut Domino,as to the Lord,et non hominibus:and not to men.

scientes quoniam unusquisque quodcumque fecerit bonum,For you know that whatever good each one will do,hoc recipiet a Domino, the same will he receive from the Lord, sive servus, whether he is servantsive liber.or free.

Et vos domini,And you, lords, eadem facite illis, act similarly toward them, remittentes minas:setting aside threats, scientes quia et illorum et vester Dominus est in cælis:knowing that the Lord of both you and them is in heaven.et personarum acceptio non est apud eum.For with him there is no favoritism toward anyone.

De cetero,Concerning the rest, fratres, brothers, confortamini in Domino,be strengthened in the Lord,et in potentia virtutis ejus.by the power of his virtue.

Induite vos armaturam Dei,Be clothed in the armor of God,ut possitis stare adversus insidias diaboli:so that you may be able to stand against the treachery of the devil.

quoniam non est nobis colluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem,For our struggle is not against fleshsed adversus principes, and blood,et potestates, but against principalitiesadversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, and powers, contra spiritualia nequitiæ,against the directors of this world of darkness,in cælestibus.against the spirits of wickedness in high places.

Propterea accipite armaturam Dei,Because of this,ut possitis resistere in die malo, take up the armor of God,et in omnibus perfecti stare.so that you may be able to withstand the evil day and remain perfect in all things.

State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate,Therefore, stand firm, having been girded about your waist with truth,et induti loricam justitiæ,and having been clothed with the breastplate of justice,

et calceati pedes in præparatione Evangelii pacis, and having feet which have been shod by the preparation of the Gospel of peace.

in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei,In all things, take up the shield of faith,in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi ignea extinguere:with which you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.

et galeam salutis assumite,And take up the helmet of salvationet gladium spiritus (quod est verbum Dei),and the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God).

per omnem orationemThrough every kind of prayer and supplication,et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in spiritu:pray at all times in spirit,et in ipso vigilantes in omni instantiaand so be vigilant with every kind of earnest supplication,et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis:for all the saints,

et pro me,and also for me,ut detur mihi sermo in apertione oris mei cum fiducia,so that words may be given to me,notum facere mysterium Evangelii:as I open my mouth with faith to make known the mystery of the Gospel,

pro quo legatione fungor in catena,in such a manner that I may dare to speak exactly as I ought to speak.ita ut in ipso audeam, prout oportet me loqui. For I act as an ambassador in chains for the Gospel.

Ut autem et vos sciatis quæ circa me sunt,Now,quid agam,so that you also may know the things that concern me and what I am doing, omnia vobis nota faciet Tychicus,Tychicus, carissimus frater,a most beloved brother and a faithful minister in the Lord,et fidelis minister in Domino:will make known everything to you.

quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum,I have sent him to you for this very reason,ut cognoscatis quæ circa nos sunt,so that you may know the things that concern us,et consoletur corda vestra.and so that he may console your hearts.

Pax fratribus,Peace to the brothers,et caritas cum fide a Deo Patreand charity with faith,et Domino Jesu Christo.from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gratia cum omnibus qui diligunt Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum in incorruptione.May grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ, unto incorruption.Amen.Amen.
