Paulus,Paul,Apostolus non ab hominibus,an Apostle, neque per hominem, not from men and not through man,sed per Jesum Christum, but through Jesus Christ,et Deum Patrem, and God the Father, qui suscitavit eum a mortuis:who raised him from the dead,
et qui mecum sunt omnes fratres, and all the brothers who are with me:ecclesiis Galatiæ.to the churches of Galatia.
Gratia vobis,Graceet pax a Deo Patre, and peace to you from God the Father,et Domino nostro Jesu Christo, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
qui dedit semetipsum pro peccatis nostris, who gave himself on behalf of our sins,ut eriperet nos de præsenti sæculo nequam,so that he might deliver us from this present wicked age, secundum voluntatem Dei et Patris nostri, according to the will of God our Father.
cui est gloria in sæcula sæculorum. To him is glory forever and ever.Amen.Amen.
Miror quod sic tam cito transferimini ab eo qui vos vocavit in gratiam Christi in aliud Evangelium:I wonder that you have been so quickly transferred, from him who called you into the grace of Christ, over to another gospel.
quod non est aliud,For there is no other, nisi sunt aliqui qui vos conturbant, except that there are some persons who disturb youet volunt convertere Evangelium Christi.and who want to overturn the Gospel of Christ.
Sed licet nos aut angelus de cælo evangelizet vobis præterquam quod evangelizavimus vobis,But if anyone, even we ourselves or an Angel from Heaven, were to preach to you a gospel other than the one that we have preached to you, anathema sit.let him be anathema.
Sicut prædiximus, et nunc iterum dico:Just as we have said before, so now I say again:si quis vobis evangelizaverit præter id quod accepistis,If anyone has preached a gospel to you, other than that which you have received, anathema sit.let him be anathema.
Modo enim hominibus suadeo,For am I now persuading men,an Deo?or God?an quæro hominibus placere?Or, am I seeking to please men?si adhuc hominibus placerem,If I still were pleasing men,Christi servus non essem.then I would not be a servant of Christ.
Notum enim vobis facio,For I would have you understand, fratres, brothers,Evangelium, quod evangelizatum est a me, quia non est secundum hominem:that the Gospel which has been preached by me is not according to man.
neque enim ego ab homine accepi illud,And I did not receive it from man, neque didici, nor did I learn it,sed per revelationem Jesu Christi.except through the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Audistis enim conversationem meam aliquando in Judaismo:For you have heard of my former behavior within Judaism: that, quoniam supra modum persequebar Ecclesiam Dei, et expugnabam illam, beyond measure, I persecuted the Church of God and fought against Her.
et proficiebam in Judaismo supra multos coætaneos meos in genere meo,And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my equals among my own kind, abundantius æmulator existens paternarum mearum traditionum.having proven to be more abundant in zeal toward the traditions of my fathers.
Cum autem placuit ei,But, when it pleased him who,qui me segregavit ex utero matris meæ,from my mother’s womb, had set me apart,et vocavit per gratiam suam, and who has called me by his grace,
ut revelaret Filium suum in me,to reveal his Son within me,ut evangelizarem illum in gentibus:so that I might evangelize him among the Gentiles, continuo non acquievi carni et sanguini,I did not next seek the consent of flesh and blood.
neque veni Jerosolymam ad antecessores meos Apostolos:Neither did I go to Jerusalem, to those who were Apostles before me.sed abii in Arabiam,Instead, I went into Arabia,et iterum reversus sum Damascum:and next I returned to Damascus.
deinde post annos tres veni Jerosolymam videre Petrum,And then, after three years, I went to Jerusalem to see Peter;et mansi apud eum diebus quindecim:and I stayed with him for fifteen days.
alium autem Apostolorum vidi neminem,But I saw none of the other Apostles, nisi Jacobum fratrem Domini.except James, the brother of the Lord.
Quæ autem scribo vobis,Now what I am writing to you:ecce coram Deo,behold, before God,quia non mentior.I am not lying.
Deinde veni in partes Syriæ,Next,et Ciliciæ.I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
Eram autem ignotus facie ecclesiis Judææ,But I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea,quæ erant in Christo:which were in Christ.
tantum autem auditum habebant quoniam qui persequebatur nos aliquando,For they had only heard that: “He, who formerly persecuted us,nunc evangelizat fidem, quam aliquando expugnabat:now evangelizes the faith which he once fought.”
et in me clarificabant Deum. And they glorified God in me.
