Nihil ergo nunc damnationis est iis qui sunt in Christo Jesu:Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,qui non secundum carnem ambulant.who are not walking according to the flesh.
Lex enim spiritus vitæ in Christo Jesu liberavit me a lege peccati et mortis.For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed me from the law of sin and death.
Nam quod impossibile erat legi,For though this was impossible under the law,in quo infirmabatur per carnem:because it was weakened by the flesh,Deus Filium suum mittens in similitudinem carnis peccati et de peccato,God sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and because of sin,damnavit peccatum in carne,in order to condemn sin in the flesh,
ut justificatio legis impleretur in nobis,so that the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us.qui non secundum carnem ambulamus,For we are not walking according to the flesh,sed secundum spiritum.but according to the spirit.
Qui enim secundum carnem sunt, quæ carnis sunt, sapiunt:For those who are in agreement with the flesh are mindful of the things of the flesh.qui vero secundum spiritum sunt, quæ sunt spiritus, sentiunt.But those who are in agreement with the spirit are mindful of the things of the spirit.
Nam prudentia carnis, mors est:For the prudence of the flesh is death.prudentia autem spiritus, vita et pax:But the prudence of the spirit is life and peace.
quoniam sapientia carnis inimica est Deo:And the wisdom of the flesh is inimical to God.legi enim Dei non est subjecta,For it is not subject to the law of God,nec enim potest.nor can it be.
Qui autem in carne sunt, Deo placere non possunt.So those who are in the flesh are not able to please God.
Vos autem in carne non estis,And you are not in the flesh,sed in spiritu:but in the spirit,si tamen Spiritus Dei habitat in vobis.if it is true that the Spirit of God lives within you.Si quis autem Spiritum Christi non habet,But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,hic non est ejus.he does not belong to him.
Si autem Christus in vobis est,But if Christ is within you,corpus quidem mortuum est propter peccatum,then the body is indeed dead, concerning sin,spiritus vero vivit propter justificationem.but the spirit truly lives, because of justification.
Quod si Spiritus ejus, qui suscitavit Jesum a mortuis, habitat in vobis:But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead lives within you,qui suscitavit Jesum Christum a mortuis, vivificabit et mortalia corpora vestra,then he who raised up Jesus Christ from the dead shall also enliven your mortal bodies,propter inhabitantem Spiritum ejus in vobis.by means of his Spirit living within you.
Ergo fratres,Therefore, brothers,debitores sumus non carni,we are not debtors to the flesh,ut secundum carnem vivamus.so as to live according to the flesh.
Si enim secundum carnem vixeritis,For if you live according to the flesh,moriemini:you will die.si autem spiritu facta carnis mortificaveritis,But if, by the Spirit, you mortify the deeds of the flesh,vivetis.you shall live.
Quicumque enim Spiritu Dei aguntur, ii sunt filii Dei.For all those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God.
Non enim accepistis spiritum servitutis iterum in timore,And you have not received, again, a spirit of servitude in fear,sed accepistis spiritum adoptionis filiorum,but you have received the Spirit of the adoption of sons,in quo clamamus:in whom we cry out:Abba (Pater).“Abba, Father!”
Ipse enim Spiritus testimonium reddit spiritui nostro quod sumus filii Dei.For the Spirit himself renders testimony to our spirit that we are the sons of God.
Si autem filii,But if we are sons,et hæredes:then we are also heirs:hæredes,certainly heirs of God,quidem Dei,but also co-heirs with Christ,cohæredes autem Christi:yet in such a way that,si tamen compatimur utif we suffer with him,et conglorificemur.we shall also be glorified with him.
Existimo enim quod non sunt condignæ passiones hujus temporis ad futuram gloriam, quæ revelabitur in nobis.For I consider that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with that future glory which shall be revealed in us.
Nam exspectatio creaturæ revelationem filiorum Dei exspectat.For the anticipation of the creature anticipates the revelation of the sons of God.
Vanitati enim creatura subjecta est non volens,For the creature was made subject to emptiness, not willingly,sed propter eum, qui subjecit eam in spe:but for the sake of the One who made it subject, unto hope.
quiaFor the creature itself shall also be delivered from the servitude of corruption,et ipsa creatura liberabitur a servitute corruptionis in libertatem gloriæ filiorum Dei.into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God.
Scimus enim quod omnis creatura ingemiscit,For we know that every creature groans inwardly,et parturit usque adhuc.as if giving birth, even until now;
Non solum autem illa,and not only these,sed et nos ipsi primitias spiritus habentes:but also ourselves, since we hold the first-fruits of the Spirit.et ipsi intra nos gemimus adoptionem filiorum Dei exspectantes,For we also groan within ourselves, anticipating our adoption as the sons of God,redemptionem corporis nostri.and the redemption of our body.
Spe enim salvi facti sumus.For we have been saved by hope.Spes autem, quæ videtur, non est spes:But a hope which is seen is not hope.nam quod videt quis,For when a man sees something,quid sperat?why would he hope?
Si autem quod non videmus, speramus:But since we hope for what we do not see,per patientiam exspectamus.we wait with patience.
Similiter autem et Spiritus adjuvat infirmitatem nostram:And similarly, the Spirit also helps our weakness.nam quid oremus, sicut oportet, nescimus:For we do not know how to pray as we ought,sed ipse Spiritus postulat pro nobis gemitibus inenarrabilibus.but the Spirit himself asks on our behalf with ineffable sighing.
Qui autem scrutatur corda, scit quid desideret Spiritus:And he who examines hearts knows what the Spirit seeks,quia secundum Deum postulat pro sanctis.because he asks on behalf of the saints in accordance with God.
Scimus autem quoniam diligentibus Deum omnia cooperantur in bonum,And we know that, for those who love God, all things work together unto good,iis qui secundum propositum vocati sunt sancti.for those who, in accordance with his purpose, are called to be saints.
Nam quos præscivit,For those whom he foreknew,et prædestinavit conformes fieri imaginis Filii sui,he also predestined, in conformity with the image of his Son,ut sit ipse primogenitus in multis fratribus.so that he might be the Firstborn among many brothers.
Quos autem prædestinavit,And those whom he predestined,hos et vocavit:he also called.et quos vocavit,And those whom he called,hos et justificavit:he also justified.quos autem justificavit,And those whom he justified,illos et glorificavit.he also glorified.
Quid ergo dicemus ad hæc?So, what should we say about these things?si Deus pro nobis,If God is for us,quis contra nos?who is against us?
Qui etiam proprio Filio suo non pepercit,He who did not spare even his own Son,sed pro nobis omnibus tradidit illum:but handed him over for the sake of us all,quomodo non etiam cum illo omnia nobis donavit?how could he not also, with him, have given us all things?
Quis accusabit adversus electos Dei?Who will make an accusation against the elect of God?Deus qui justificat,God is the One who justifies;
quis est qui condemnet?who is the one who condemns?Christus Jesus, qui mortuus est,Christ Jesus who has died,immo qui et resurrexit,and who has indeed also risen again,qui est ad dexteram Dei,is at the right hand of God,qui etiam interpellat pro nobis.and even now he intercedes for us.
Quis ergo nos separabit a caritate Christi?Then who will separate us from the love of Christ?tribulatio?Tribulation?an angustia?Or anguish?an fames?Or famine?an nuditas?Or nakedness?an periculum?Or peril?an persecutio?Or persecution?an gladius?Or the sword?
(Sicut scriptum est:For it is as it has been written:Quia propter te mortificamur tota die:“For your sake, we are being put to death all day long.æstimati sumus sicut oves occisionis.)We are being treated like sheep for the slaughter.”
Sed in his omnibus superamus propter eum qui dilexit nos.But in all these things we overcome, because of him who has loved us.
Certus sum enim quia neque mors,For I am certain that neither death,neque vita,nor life,neque angeli,nor Angels,neque principatus,nor Principalities,neque virtutes,nor Powers,neque instantia,nor the present things,neque futura,nor the future things,neque fortitudo,nor strength,
neque altitudo,nor the heights,neque profundum,nor the depths,neque creatura alia poterit nos separare a caritate Dei,nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God,quæ est in Christo Jesu Domino nostro.which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
