Obsecro igitur primum omnium fieri obsecrationes,And so I beg you, first of all, to make supplications, orationes, prayers, postulationes, petitions, gratiarum actiones, pro omnibus hominibus:and thanksgivings for all men,

pro regibus, for kings,et omnibus qui in sublimitate sunt, and for all who are in high places,ut quietam et tranquillam vitam agamus in omni pietate, et castitate:so that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and chastity.

hoc enim bonum est,For this is goodet acceptum coram Salvatore nostro Deo,and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

qui omnes homines vult salvos fieri, who wants all men to be savedet ad agnitionem veritatis venire.and to arrive at an acknowledgment of the truth.

Unus enim Deus,For there is one God,unus et mediator Dei et hominum homo Christus Jesus:and one mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,

qui dedit redemptionem semetipsum pro omnibus, who gave himself as a redemption for all, testimonium temporibus suis:as a testimony in its proper time.

in quo positus sum ego prædicator, et Apostolus (veritatem dico,Of this testimony, I have been appointed a preacher and an Apostle, non mentior) doctor gentium in fide,(I speak the truth, I do not lie) as a teacher of the Gentiles,et veritate.in faith and in truth.

Volo ergo viros orare in omni loco,Therefore, I want men to pray in every place, levantes puras manus sine ira et disceptatione.lifting up pure hands, without anger or dissension.

Similiter et mulieres in habitu ornato,Similarly also, women should be dressed fittingly, cum verecundia et sobrietate ornantes se,adorning themselves with compunction and restraint,et non in tortis crinibus, and not with plaited hair, aut auro, nor gold, aut margaritis, nor pearls, vel veste pretiosa:nor costly attire,

sed quod decet mulieres, promittentes pietatem per opera bona.but in a manner proper for women who are professing piety by means of good works.

Mulier in silentio discat cum omni subjectione.Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection.

Docere autem mulieri non permitto,For I do not permit a woman to teach, neque dominari in virum:nor to be in authority over a man,sed esse in silentio.but to be in silence.

Adam enim primus formatus est:For Adam was formed first, deinde Heva:then Eve.

et Adam non est seductus:And Adam was not seduced, mulier autem seducta in prævaricatione fuit.but the woman, having been seduced, was in transgression.

Salvabitur autem per filiorum generationem,Yet she will be saved by bearing children,si permanserit in fide,if she has continued in faithet dilectione, and love,et sanctificatione cum sobrietate.and in sanctification accompanied by self-restraint.
