1Hoc autem scito,And know this:quod in novissimis diebus instabunt tempora periculosa:that in the last days perilous times will press near.
2erunt homines seipsos amantes,Men will be lovers of themselves,cupidi,greedy,elati,self-exalting,superbi,arrogant,blasphemi,blasphemers,parentibus non obedientes,disobedient to parents,ingrati,ungrateful,scelesti,wicked,
3sine affectione,without affection,sine pace,without peace,criminatores,false accusers,incontinentes,unchaste,immites,cruel,sine benignitate,without kindness,
4proditores,traitorous,protervi,reckless,tumidi,self-important,et voluptatum amatores magis quam Dei:loving pleasure more than God,
5habentes speciem quidem pietatis,even having the appearance of piety while rejecting its virtue.virtutem autem ejus abnegantes.And so,Et hos devita:avoid them.
6ex his enim sunt qui penetrant domos,For among these are ones who penetrate houses and lead away,et captivas ducunt mulierculas oneratas peccatis,like captives, foolish women burdened with sins,quæ ducuntur variis desideriis:who are led away by means of various desires,
7semper discentes,always learning,et numquam ad scientiam veritatis pervenientes.yet never achieving knowledge of the truth.
8Quemadmodum autem Jannes et Mambres restiterunt Moysi:And in the same manner that Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses,ita et hi resistunt veritati,so also will these resist the truth,homines corrupti mente,men corrupted in mind,reprobi circa fidem;reprobates from the faith.
9sed ultra non proficient:But they will not advance beyond a certain point.insipientia enim eorum manifesta erit omnibus,For the folly of the latter shall be made manifest to all,sicut et illorum fuit.just as that of the former.
10Tu autem assecutus es meam doctrinam,But you have fully comprehended my doctrine,institutionem,instruction,propositum,purpose,fidem,faith,longanimitatem,longsuffering,dilectionem,love,patientiam,patience,
11persecutiones,persecutions,passiones:afflictions;qualia mihi facta sunt Antiochiæ,such things as happened to me at Antioch,Iconii,at Iconium,et Lystris:and at Lystra;quales persecutiones sustinui,how I endured persecutions,et ex omnibus eripuit me Dominus.and how the Lord rescued me from everything.
12Et omnes, qui pie volunt vivere in Christo Jesu, persecutionem patientur.And all those who willingly live the piety in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13Mali autem homines et seductores proficient in pejus,But evil men and deceivers will advance in evil,errantes, et in errorem mittentes.erring and sending into error.
14Tu vero permane in iis quæ didicisti,Yet truly,et credita sunt tibi:you should remain in those things which you have learned and which have been entrusted to you.sciens a quo didiceris:For you know from whom you have learned them.
15et quia ab infantia sacras litteras nosti,And, from your infancy, you have known the Sacred Scriptures,quæ te possunt instruere ad salutem,which are able to instruct you toward salvation,per fidem quæ est in Christo Jesu.through the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16Omnis Scriptura divinitus inspirata utilis est ad docendum,All Scripture, having been divinely inspired, is useful for teaching,ad arguendum,for reproof,ad corripiendum,for correction,et erudiendum in justitia:and for instruction in justice,
17ut perfectus sit homo Dei,so that the man of God may be perfect,ad omne opus bonum instructus.having been trained for every good work.
