1Audite verbum hoc,Listen to this word,vaccæ pingues,you fat cows that are on the mountain of Samaria,quæ estis in monte Samariæ,you who make false accusations against the destitutequæ calumniam facitis egenis et confringitis pauperes;and crush the poor,quæ dicitis dominis vestris:who say to your nobles,Afferte,“Bring,et bibemus.and we will drink.”
2Juravit Dominus Deus in sancto suo,The Lord God has sworn in his holiness:quia ecce dies venient super vos,behold,et levabunt vos in contis,the days that will overcome you and that will impale you on poles,et reliquias vestras in ollis ferventibus.and that will place what remains of you in boiling pots.
3Et per aperturas exibitis altera contra alteram,And you will go out through the breaches, one over another,et projiciemini in Armon,and you will be cast out into Harmon,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
4Venite ad Bethel,Come to Bethelet impie agite;and behave impiously,ad Galgalam,to Gilgalet multiplicate prævaricationem:and increase betrayals.et afferte mane victimas vestras,And bring daybreak to your victims,tribus diebus decimas vestras.your tithes in three days.
5Et sacrificate de fermentato laudem,And offer a sacrifice of praise with leaven.et vocate voluntarias oblationes,And call for voluntary oblations,et annuntiate;and announce it.sic enim voluistis,For such is your will,filii Israël,sons of Israel,dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.
6Unde et ego dedi vobis stuporem dentium in cunctis urbibus vestris,Therefore, because of this, I have given you dull teeth in every one of your cities,et indigentiam panum in omnibus locis vestris; et non estis reversi ad me,and a lack of bread in all your places. And you have not been turned back towards me,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
7Ego quoque prohibui a vobis imbrem,Therefore, I have withheld the rains from you,cum adhuc tres menses superessent usque ad messem:when there were still three months left until the harvest.et plui super unam civitatem,And I rained on one city,et super alteram civitatem non plui;and I did not rain on another city;pars una compluta est,one part was rained on,et pars super quam non plui,and the part on which I did not rain,aruit.dried out.
8Et venerunt duæAnd two and three cities went to one city,et tres civitates ad unam civitatem ut biberent aquam,in order to drink water,et non sunt satiatæ;and they were not satisfied.et non redistis ad me,And you did not return to me,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
9Percussi vos in vento urente, et in aurugine:I struck you with a burning wind and with yellowing;multitudinem hortorum vestrorum et vinearum vestrarum,the caterpillar has consumed your many gardens and your vineyards,oliveta vestra et ficeta vestra comedit eruca:your olive groves and your fig groves.et non redistis ad me,And you did not return to me,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
10Misi in vos mortem in via Ægypti;I sent death to you by way of Egypt;percussi in gladio juvenes vestros,I struck your youths with the sword,usque ad captivitatem equorum vestrorum,even bringing captivity to your horses.et ascendere feci putredinem castrorum vestrorum in nares vestras:And I made the stench of your camp ascend into your nostrils.et non redistis ad me,And you did not return to me,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
11Subverti vos sicut subvertit Deus SodomamI overturned you,et Gomorrham,just as God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah,et facti estis quasi torris raptus ab incendio:and you became like an ember seized from the fire.et non redistis ad me,And you did not return to me,dicit Dominus.says the Lord.
12Quapropter hæc faciam tibi,Because of this, I will do these things to you,Israël:Israel.postquam autem hæc fecero tibi,But after I have done these things to you,præparare in occursum Dei tui, Israël.Israel, be prepared to meet your God.
13Quia ecce formans montes,For behold,et creans ventum, et annuntians homini eloquium suum,he who forms the mountains and creates the wind and announces his speech to man,faciens matutinam nebulam, et gradiens super excelsa terræ:who makes the morning mist and steps over the heights of the earth:Dominus Deus exercituum nomen ejus.the Lord God of hosts is his name.
