Et quintus angelus tuba cecinit:And the fifth Angel sounded the trumpet.et vidi stellam de cælo cecidisse in terram,And I saw upon the earth, a star that had fallen from heaven,et data est ei clavis putei abyssi.and the key to the well of the abyss was given to him.

Et aperuit puteum abyssi:And he opened the well of the abyss.et ascendit fumus putei,And the smoke of the well ascended, sicut fumus fornacis magnæ:like the smoke of a great furnace.et obscuratus est sol,And the sunet aër de fumo putei:and the air were obscured by the smoke of the well.

et de fumo putei exierunt locustæ in terram,And locusts went forth from the smoke of the well into the earth.et data est illis potestas,And power was given to them, sicut habent potestatem scorpiones terræ:like the power that the scorpions of the earth have.

et præceptum est illis ne læderent fœnum terræ, neque omne viride,And it was commanded of them that they must not harm the plants of the earth, neque omnem arborem:nor anything green, nisi tantum homines, qui non habent signum Dei in frontibus suis:nor any tree, but only those men who do not have the Seal of God upon their foreheads.

et datum est illis ne occiderent eos:And it was given to them that they would not kill them, sed ut cruciarent mensibus quinque:but that they would torture them for five months.et cruciatus eorum,And their torture was like the torture of a scorpion,ut cruciatus scorpii cum percutit hominem.when he strikes a man.

Et in diebus illis quærent homines mortem,And in those days,et non invenient eam:men will seek death and they will not find it.et desiderabunt mori,And they will desire to die,et fugiet mors ab eis.and death will flee from them.

Et similitudines locustarum, similes equis paratis in prælium:And the likenesses of the locusts resembled horses prepared for battle.et super capita earum tamquam coronæ similes auro:And upon their heads were something like crowns similar to gold.et facies earum tamquam facies hominum. And their faces were like the faces of men.

Et habebant capillos sicut capillos mulierum. And they had hair like the hair of women.Et dentes earum, sicut dentes leonum erant:And their teeth were like the teeth of lions.

et habebant loricas sicut loricas ferreas,And they had breastplates like iron breastplates.et vox alarum earum sicut vox curruum equorum multorum currentium in bellum:And the noise of their wings was like the noise of many running horses, rushing to battle.

et habebant caudas similes scorpionum,And they had tails similar to scorpions.et aculei erant in caudis earum:And there were stingers in their tails,et potestas earum nocere hominibus mensibus quinque:and these had the power to harm men for five months.

et habebant super se regem angelum abyssi cui nomen hebraice Abaddon,And they had over them a king, the Angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Doom;græce autem Apollyon,in Greek, Destroyer;latine habens nomen Exterminans.in Latin, Exterminator.

Væ unum abiit,One woe has gone out,et ecce veniunt adhuc duo væ post hæc.but behold, there are still two woes approaching afterward.

Et sextus angelus tuba cecinit:And the sixth Angel sounded the trumpet.et audivi vocem unam ex quatuor cornibus altaris aurei,And I heard a lone voice from the four horns of the golden altar, quod est ante oculos Dei,which is before the eyes of God,

dicentem sexto angelo, qui habebat tubam:saying to the sixth Angel who had the trumpet:Solve quatuor angelos, qui alligati sunt in flumine magno Euphrate.“Release the four Angels who were bound at the great river Euphrates.”

Et soluti sunt quatuor angeli,And the four Angels were released, qui parati erant in horam, who had been prepared for that hour,et diem, and day,et mensem, and month,et annum, and year,ut occiderent tertiam partem hominum.in order to kill one third part of men.

Et numerus equestris exercitus vicies millies dena millia. And the number of the army of horsemen was two hundred million.Et audivi numerum eorum. For I heard their number.

Et ita vidi equos in visione:And I also saw the horses in the vision.et qui sedebant super eos, habebant loricas igneas, et hyacinthinas,And those who were sitting upon them had breastplates of fire and hyacinth and sulphur.et sulphureas, et capita equorum erant tamquam capita leonum:And the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions.et de ore eorum procedit ignis, et fumus, et sulphur. And from their mouths proceeded fire and smoke and sulphur.

Et ab his tribus plagis occisa est tertia pars hominum de igne,And one third part of men were slain by these three afflictions:et de fumo, et sulphure,by the fire and by the smoke and by the sulphur,quæ procedebant de ore ipsorum.which proceeded from their mouths.

Potestas enim equorum in ore eorum est,For the power of these horses is in their mouthset in caudis eorum, and in their tails.nam caudæ eorum similes serpentibus,For their tails resemble serpents, habentes capita:having heads;et in his nocent.and it is with these that they cause harm.

Et ceteri homines,And the rest of men,qui non sunt occisi in his plagis, who were not slain by these afflictions, neque pœnitentiam egerunt de operibus manuum suarum, did not repent from the works of their hands,ut non adorarent dæmonia,so that they would not worship demons,et simulacra aurea,or idols of goldet argentea, and silveret ærea, and brasset lapidea, and stoneet lignea, and wood,quæ neque videre possunt, which can neither see, neque audire, nor hear, neque ambulare, nor walk.

et non egerunt pœnitentiam ab homicidiis suis,And they did not repent from their murders, neque a veneficiis suis, nor from their drugs, neque a fornicatione sua,nor from their fornication, neque a furtis suis.nor from their thefts.
