Anno tertio regni Baltassar regis,In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, visio apparuit mihi. Ego Daniel,a vision appeared to me.post id quod videram in principio,After that which I had seen in the beginning, I, Daniel,
vidi in visione mea,saw in my vision, cum essem in Susis castro, that I was in the capital city of Susa, quod est in Ælam regione:which is in the region of Elam, vidi autem in visione esse me super portam Ulai.yet I saw in the vision that I was over the gate of Ulai.
Et levavi oculus meos, et vidi:And I lifted up my eyes and saw,et ecce aries unus stabat ante paludem, and behold, a single ram stood before the marsh, habens cornua excelsa, having two high horns,et unum excelsius altero atque succrescens. Posteaand one was higher than the other and growing higher still.
vidi arietem cornibus ventilantem contra occidentem,After this, I saw the ram brandishing his horns against the West,et contra aquilonem, and against the North,et contra meridiem, and against the Meridian,et omnes bestiæ non poterant resistere ei,and all the beasts could not withstand him, neque liberari de manu ejus:nor be freed from his hand, fecitque secundum voluntatem suam, and he did according to his own will,et magnificatus est.and he became great.
Et ego intelligebam:And I understood, and behold, ecce autem hircus caprarum veniebat ab occidente super faciem totius terræ,a he-goat among she-goats came from the West above the face of the entire earth,et non tangebat terram:and he did not touch the ground.porro hircus habebat cornu insigne inter oculos suos.Furthermore, the he-goat had a preeminent horn between his eyes.
Et venit usque ad arietem illum cornutum,And he went all the way to the ram that had the horns, quem videram stantem ante portam, which I had seen standing before the gate,et cucurrit ad eum in impetu fortitudinis suæ.and he ran towards him in the force of his strength.
Cumque appropinquasset prope arietem,And when he approached near to the ram, efferatus est in eum,he was enraged against him,et percussit arietem:and he struck the ram,et comminuit duo cornua ejus, and broke his two horns,et non poterat aries resistere ei:and the ram could not withstand him, cumque eum misisset in terram, and when he had cast him down on the ground, conculcavit,he trampled him,et nemo quibat liberare arietem de manu ejus.and no one was able to free the ram from his hand.
Hircus autem caprarum magnus factus est nimis:But the he-goat among she-goats became exceedingly great, cumque crevisset, and when he had prospered, fractum est cornu magnum, the great horn was shattered,et orta sunt quatuor cornua subter illud per quatuor ventos cæli.and four horns were rising up beneath it by means of the four winds of heaven.
De uno autem ex eis egressum est cornu unum modicum:But from one of them came forth one little horn,et factum est grande contra meridiem, and it became great against the Meridian,et contra orientem, and against the East,et contra fortitudinem.and against the strength.
Et magnificatum est usque ad fortitudinem cæli:And it was magnified even towards the strength of heaven,et dejecit de fortitudine, and it threw down those of the strengthet de stellis, and of the stars,et conculcavit eas.and it trampled them.
Et usque ad principem fortitudinis magnificatum est:And it was magnified, even to the leader of the strength,et ab eo tulit juge sacrificium, and it took away from him the continual sacrifice,et dejecit locum sanctificationis ejus.and cast down the place of his sanctuary.
Robur autem datum est ei contra juge sacrificium propter peccata:And the advantage was given to him against the continual sacrifice, because of the sins,et prosternetur veritas in terra, and truth will be struck down to the ground,et faciet, and he will act,et prosperabitur.and he will prosper.
Et audivi unum de sanctis loquentem:And I heard one of the holy ones speaking,et dixit unus sanctus alteri nescio cui loquenti:and one saint said to another, (I know not to whom he was speaking,)Usquequo visio,“What is the extent of the vision,et juge sacrificium, and the continual sacrifice,et peccatum desolationis quæ facta est:and the sin of the desolation, which has happened,et sanctuarium, et fortitudo conculcabitur?and of the sanctuary and the strength, which will be trampled?”
Et dixit ei:And he said to him,Usque ad vesperam et mane,“From evening until morning, dies duo millia trecenti:two thousand three hundred days,et mundabitur sanctuarium.and so the sanctuary will be cleansed.”
Factum est autem cum viderem ego Daniel visionem,But it came to pass, when I, Daniel,et quærerem intelligentiam:saw the vision and sought understanding that, ecce stetit in conspectu meo quasi species viri.behold, there stood in my sight something like the appearance of a man.
Et audivi vocem viri inter Ulai:And I heard the voice of a man within Ulai,et clamavit, and he called outet ait:and said,Gabriel,“Gabriel, fac intelligere istam visionem.make this one understand the vision.”
Et venit,And he came and stood next to where I was standing,et stetit juxta ubi ego stabam:and when he approached, cumque venisset,I fell on my face, pavens corrui in faciem meam:trembling,et ait ad me:and he said to me,Intellige,“Understand, fili hominis, son of man, quoniam in tempore finis complebitur visio.for in the time of the end the vision will be fulfilled.”
Cumque loqueretur ad me,And when he spoke to me,collapsus sum pronus in terram:I fell forward onto the ground,et tetigit me,and so he touched meet statuit me in gradu meo,and stood me upright.
dixitque mihi:And he said to me,Ego ostendam tibi quæ futura sunt in novissimo maledictionis:“I will reveal to you what the future things are in the earlier tribulation, quoniam habet tempus finem suum.for the time has its end.
Aries,The ram, quem vidisti habere cornua, which you saw to have horns, rex Medorum est atque Persarum.is the king of the Medes and Persians.
Porro hircus caprarum, rex Græcorum est;Furthermore, the he-goat among she-goats is the king of the Greeks,et cornu grande, and the great horn, quod erat inter oculos ejus, which was between his eyes, ipse est rex primus.is the same one, the first king.
Quod autem fracto illo surrexerunt quatuor pro eo:And since, having been shattered, there grew four in its place, quatuor reges de gente ejus consurgent, four kings will rise up from his people, sed non in fortitudine ejus.but not in his strength.
Et post regnum eorum,And after their reign, cum creverint iniquitates, when iniquities will be increased, consurget rex impudens facie, there will arise a king of shameless faceet intelligens propositiones;and understanding negotiations.
et roborabitur fortitudo ejus,And his advantage will be strengthened, sed non in viribus suis:but not by his kind of force,et supra quam credi potest, and other than what he will be able to trust, universa vastabit, everything will be eradicated,et prosperabitur, and he will prosper,et faciet.and he will act.Et interficiet robustos,And he will execute the successfulet populum sanctorumand the people of the saints,
secundum voluntatem suam, according to his will,et dirigetur dolus in manu ejus:and treachery will be guided by his hand.et cor suum magnificabit,And his heart will be inflated,et in copia rerum omnium occidet plurimos:and by the abundance of everything he will kill many,et contra principem principum consurget, and he will rise up against the Lord of lords,et sine manu conteretur.and he will be knocked down without a hand.
Et visio vespere et mane,And the vision of the evening and the morning,quæ dicta est, which was told, is true.vera est:Therefore,tu ergo visionem signa, you must seal the vision, because, quia post multos dies erit.after many days, it will occur.”
Et ego Daniel langui,And I, Daniel,et ægrotavi per dies:languished and was sick for some days, cumque surrexissem, and when I had lifted myself up,faciebam opera regis,I performed the king’s works,et stupebam ad visionem, and I was astonished at the vision,et non erat qui interpretaretur.and there was none who could interpret it.
