1Filii estote Domini Dei vestri: non vos incidetis,“Be sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves,nec facietis calvitium super mortuo:nor make yourselves bald, because of the dead.

2quoniam populus sanctus es Domino Deo tuo,For you are a holy people, for the Lord your God.et te elegit ut sis ei in populum peculiarem de cunctis gentibus,And he chose you, so that you may be a people particularly his,quæ sunt super terram.out of all the nations on earth.

3Ne comedatis quæ immunda sunt.You shall not eat the things that are unclean.

4Hoc est animal quod comedere debetis:These are the animals which you ought to eat:bovem,the ox,et ovem,and the sheep,et capram,and the goat,

5cervum et capream,the stag and the roe deer,bubalum,the gazelle,tragelaphum,the wild goat,pygargum,the addax,orygem,the antelope,camelopardalum.the giraffe.

6Omne animal, quod in duas partes findit ungulam, et ruminat,Every beast which has a hoof divided into two parts and which also chews the cud,comedetis.you shall eat.

7De his autem, quæ ruminant,But those which chew over again,et ungulam non findunt,but do not have a divided hoof,comedere non debetis, ut camelum,you must not eat, such as the camel,leporem,the hare,chœrogryllum:and the hyrax.hæc, quia ruminant et non dividunt ungulam,Since these chew the cud, but do not have a divided the hoof,immunda erunt vobis.they shall be unclean to you.

8Sus quoque,The pig also,quoniam dividat ungulamsince it has a divided hoof,et non ruminat,but does not chew over again,immunda erit.shall be unclean.Carnibus eorum non vescemini,Their flesh shall not be eaten,et cadavera non tangetis.and you shall not touch their carcasses.

9Hæc comedetis ex omnibus quæ morantur in aquis:These you shall eat out of all that dwells in the waters:quæ habent pinnulas et squamas,whatever has fins and scales,comedite:you shall eat.

10quæ absque pinnulis et squamis sunt,Whatever is without fins and scales,ne comedatis,you shall not eat,quia immunda sunt.for these are unclean.

11Omnes aves mundas comedite.All the clean birds, you shall eat.

12Immundas ne comedatis:You shall not eat those that are unclean:aquilam scilicet,such as the eagle,et gryphem,and the griffin,et haliæetum,and the osprey,

13ixion et vulturem ac milvum juxta genus suum:the crane, and the vulture, and the kite, according to their kind,

14et omne corvini generis,and any kind of raven,

15et struthionem,and the ostrich,ac noctuam,and the owl,et larum,and the gull,atque accipitrem juxta genus suum:and the hawk, according to their kind,

16herodiumthe heron,ac cygnum,and the swan,et ibin,and the ibis,

17ac mergulum,and the sea bird,porphyrionem,the marsh hen,et nycticoracem,and the night raven,

18onocrotalum, et charadrium,the pelican and the plover,singula in genere suo:each in their kind,upupam quoque et vespertilionem.likewise the crested hoopoe and the bat.

19Et omne quod reptat et pennulas habet,And anything which crawlsimmundum erit,and also has little wings shall be unclean,et non comedetur.and shall not be eaten.

20Omne quod mundum est,All that is clean,comedite.you shall eat.

21Quidquid autem morticinum est,But whatever has died of itself,ne vescamini ex eo.you shall not eat from it.Peregrino,Give it to the sojourner,qui intra portas tuas est,who is within your gates,da ut comedat,so that he may eat,aut vende ei:or sell it to him.quia tu populus sanctus Domini Dei tui es.For you are the holy people of the Lord your God.Non coques hædum in lacte matris suæ.You shall not boil a young goat in the milk of his mother.

22Decimam partem separabis de cunctis fructibus tuis qui nascuntur in terra per annos singulos,Each year, you shall separate the tithes out of all your crops which spring forth from the earth.

23et comedes in conspectu Domini Dei tui in loco quem elegerit,And you shall eat these in the sight of the Lord your God, in the place which he will choose,ut in eo nomen illius invocetur,so that his name may be invoked there:decimam frumenti tui, et vini, et olei,the tenth part of your grain and wine and oil,et primogenita de armentis et ovibus tuis:and the firstborn from the herds and your sheep.ut discas timere Dominum Deum tuum omni tempore.So may you learn to fear the Lord your God at all times.

24Cum autem longior fuerit via,But when the wayet locus quem elegerit Dominus Deus tuus,and the place which the Lord your God will have chosen is further away,tibique benedixerit,and he will have blessed you,nec potueris ad eum hæc cuncta portare,so that you are not able to carry all these things to it,

25vendes omnia,you shall sell them all,et in pretium rediges,so as to turn them into money,portabisque manu tua,and you shall carry it in your hand,et proficisceris ad locum quem elegerit Dominus Deus tuus:and you shall set out for the place which the Lord will choose.

26et emes ex eadem pecunia quidquid tibi placuerit,And you shall buy with the same money whatever pleases you,sive ex armentis,either from the herds or from the sheep,sive ex ovibus,and also wine and liquor,vinum quoque et siceram,and all that your soul desires.et omne quod desiderat anima tua:And you shall eat in the sight of the Lord your God,et comedes coram Domino Deo tuo,and you shall feast:et epulaberis tu et domus tua:you and your household.

27et Levites qui intra portas tuas est,As for the Levite, who is within your gates,cave ne derelinquas eum,take care that you do not abandon him,quia non habet aliam partem in possessione tua.for he has no other portion within your possession.

28Anno tertio separabis aliam decimam ex omnibus quæ nascuntur tibi eo tempore,In the third year, you shall separate another tenth part of all the things which spring forth for you at that time,et repones intra januas tuas.and you shall store it within your gates.

29Venietque Levites qui aliam non habet partem nec possessionem tecum,And the Levite,et peregrinus ac pupillus et vidua,who has no other portion or possession with you,qui intra portas tuas sunt,and the sojourner as well as the orphan and the widow who are within your gates,et comedent et saturabuntur:shall approach and eat and be satisfied,ut benedicat tibi Dominus Deus tuus in cunctis operibus manuum tuarum quæ feceris.so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works of your hands which you shall do.”
