1Hæc est benedictio,This is the blessing,qua benedixit Moyses,with which Moses,homo Dei,the man of God,filiis Israël ante mortem suam.blessed the sons of Israel before his death.
2Et ait:And he said:Dominus de Sinai venit,“The Lord went forth from Sinai,et de Seir ortus est nobis:and he arose for us from Seir.apparuit de monte Pharan,He appeared from Mount Paran,et cum eo sanctorum millia.and thousands of holy ones were with him.In dextera ejus ignea lex.The fiery law was in his right hand.
3Dilexit populos,He loved the people;omnes sancti in manu illius sunt:all the holy ones are in his hand.et qui appropinquant pedibus ejus, accipient de doctrina illius.And those who approach his feet shall receive from his doctrine.
4Legem præcepit nobis Moyses,Moses instructed us in the law,hæreditatem multitudinis Jacob.the inheritance of the multitude of Jacob.
5Erit apud rectissimum rex,The king shall have great righteousness,congregatis principibus populi cum tribubus Israël.at the gathering of the princes of the people with the tribes of Israel.
6Vivat Ruben,Let Ruben live,et non moriatur,and not die,et sit parvus in numero.and may he be small in number.”
7Hæc est Judæ benedictio:This is the blessing of Judah.Audi,“Hear,Domine,O Lord,vocem Judæ,the voice of Judah,et ad populum suum introduc eum:and lead him to his people.manus ejus pugnabunt pro eo,His hands shall fight for him,et adjutor illius contra adversarios ejus erit.and he shall be his helper against his adversaries.”
8Levi quoque ait:Likewise,Perfectio tua,to Levi he said:et doctrina tua viro sancto tuo,“Your perfection and your doctrine are for your holy man,quem probasti in tentatione,whom you have proven by temptation,et judicasti ad aquas contradictionis.and whom you have judged at the Waters of Contradiction.
9Qui dixit patri suo et matri suæ:He has said to his father and to his mother,Nescio vos:‘I do not know you,’et fratribus suis: Ignoro vos:and to his brothers, ‘I will disregard you.’et nescierunt filios suos.And they have not known their own sons.Hi custodierunt eloquium tuum, et pactum tuum servaverunt.Such as these have kept your word and have observed your covenant:
10Judicia tua,your judgments,o Jacob,O Jacob,et legem tuam,and your law,o Israël:O Israel.ponent thymiama in furore tuo,They shall place incense before your furyet holocaustum super altare tuum.and a holocaust upon your altar.
11Benedic,O Lord,Domine, fortitudini ejus:bless his strength,et opera manuum illius suscipe.and receive the works of his hands.Percute dorsa inimicorum ejus:Strike the backs of his enemies,et qui oderunt eum, non consurgant.and do not let those who hate him rise up.”
12Et Benjamin ait:And to Benjamin he said:Amantissimus Domini habitabit confidenter in eo:“The most beloved of the Lord will live confidently in him.quasi in thalamo tota die morabitur,He shall remain all day long, as if in a bridal chamber,et inter humeros illius requiescet.and he shall rest amid her arms.”
13Joseph quoque ait:Likewise, to Joseph he said:De benedictione Domini terra ejus,“His land shall be from the blessing of the Lord,de pomis cæli,from the fruits of heaven,et rore,and from the dew,atque abysso subjacente.and from the abyss which lies below,
14De pomis fructuum solis ac lunæ,from the fruits of the crops under the sun and the moon,
15de vertice antiquorum montium,from the heights of the ancient mountains,de pomis collium æternorum:from the fruits of the everlasting hills,
16et de frugibus terræ, et de plenitudine ejus.and from the fruits of the earth with all its plenitude.Benedictio illius qui apparuit in rubo,May the blessing of him who appeared in the bush,veniat super caput Joseph,settle upon the head of Joseph,et super verticem nazaræi inter fratres suos.and upon the top of the head of the Nazarite among his brothers.
17Quasi primogeniti tauri pulchritudo ejus,His excellence is like that of a first-born bull.cornua rhinocerotis cornua illius:His horns are like the horns of a rhinoceros;in ipsis ventilabit gentes usque ad terminos terræ.he shall brandish these against the Gentiles, even to the ends of the earth.Hæ sunt multitudines Ephraim:These are the multitudes of Ephraim,et hæc millia Manasse.and these the thousands of Manasseh.”
18Et Zabulon ait:And to Zebulun he said:Lætare,“Rejoice,Zabulon,O Zebulun,in exitu tuo,in your departure,et Issachar in tabernaculis tuis.and Issachar, in your tabernacles.
19Populos vocabunt ad montem:They shall summon the peoples to the mountain.ibi immolabunt victimas justitiæ.There, they shall immolate the victims of justice,Qui inundationem maris quasi lac sugent,who feed on the flood of the sea, as if on milk,et thesauros absconditos arenarum.and on the hidden treasures of the sands.”
20Et Gad ait:And to Gad he said:Benedictus in latitudine Gad:“Blessed is Gad in his breadth.quasi leo requievit,He has rested like a lion,cepitque brachium et verticem.and he has seized the arm and the top of the head.
21Et vidit principatum suum,And he has seen his own pre-eminence,quod in parte sua doctor esset repositus:which his teacher has stored up as his portion.qui fuit cum principibus populi,He was with the princes of the people,et fecit justitias Domini,and he accomplished the justices of the Lord,et judicium suum cum Israël.and his judgment with Israel.”
22Dan quoque ait:Likewise, to Dan he said:Dan catulus leonis,“Dan is a young lion.fluet largiter de Basan.He shall flow plentifully from Bashan.”
23Et Nephthali dixit:And to Naphtali he said:Nephthali abundantia perfruetur,“Naphtali shall enjoy abundance,et plenus erit benedictionibus Domini:and he shall be full of the blessings of the Lord.mare et meridiem possidebit.He shall possess the sea and the Meridian.”
24Aser quoque ait:Likewise, to Asher he said:Benedictus in filiis Aser,“Let Asher be blessed with sons.sit placens fratribus suis,Let him be pleasing to his brothers,et tingat in oleo pedem suum:and let him dip his foot in oil.
25ferrum et æs calceamentum ejus.His shoe shall be of iron and of brass.Sicut dies juventutis tuæ,As were the days of your youth,ita et senectus tua.so also shall be your old age.
26Non est deus alius ut Deus rectissimi,There is no other god like the God of the most righteous one.ascensor cæli, auxiliator tuus.He who rides upon the heavens is your helper.Magnificentia ejus discurrunt nubes,His magnificence scatters the clouds.
27habitaculum ejus sursum,His habitation is above,et subter brachia sempiterna ejiciet a facie tua inimicum,and the everlasting arms are below. He shall cast out the enemy before your face,dicetque:and he shall say:Conterere.‘Be utterly broken!’
28Habitabit Israël confidenter, et solus.Israel shall live in confidence and alone,Oculus Jacob in terra frumenti et vini,as the eye of Jacob in a land of grain and of wine;cælique caligabunt rore.and the heavens shall be misty with dew.
29Beatus es tu,Blessed are you,Israël:O Israel.quis similis tui,Who is like you,popule, qui salvaris in Domino?the people who are saved by the Lord?Scutum auxilii tui, et gladius gloriæ tuæ:He is the shield of your assistance and the sword of your glory.negabunt te inimici tui,Your enemies will refuse to acknowledge you,et tu eorum colla calcabis.and so you shall tread upon their necks.”
