1Laudemus viros gloriosos,Let us praise the men of glory,et parentes nostros in generatione sua.and our ancestors in their generation.

2Multam gloriam fecit Dominus:The Lord has wrought great glory,magnificentia sua a sæculo.by his own magnificence, from ancient times.

3Dominantes in potestatibus suis,There are those who rule with their authority,homines magni virtute et prudentia sua præditi,men of great virtue, who are gifted with prudence.nuntiantes in prophetis dignitatem prophetarum:There are those who announce among the prophets, with the dignity of prophets.

4et imperantes in præsenti populo,And there are those who rule over the present generation,et virtute prudentiæ populis sanctissima verba:by the virtue of prudence, with very holy words for the people.

5in peritia sua requirentes modos musicos,There are those who, by their skill, compose musical themes,et narrantes carmina Scripturarum:so as to set the verses of Scripture to music.

6homines divites in virtute,There are men rich in virtue,pulchritudinis studium habentes,who make a study of beauty,pacificantes in domibus suis.who live in peacefulness in their houses.

7Omnes isti in generationibus gentis suæ gloriam adepti sunt,All these obtained glory in their generations,et in diebus suis habentur in laudibus.and they had praise in their days.

8Qui de illis nati sunt reliquerunt nomen narrandi laudes eorum.They left behind a name for those who were born of them, so that their praises might be described.

9Et sunt quorum non est memoria:But for some of them, there is no memorial.perierunt quasi qui non fuerint:They have passed away as if they had never existed;et nati sunt quasi non nati, et filii ipsorum cum ipsis.and they have become as if they had never been born, and their sons along with them.

10Sed illi viri misericordiæ sunt,But these were men of mercy,quorum pietates non defuerunt.whose pious deeds have not failed.

11Cum semine eorum permanent bona:Good things continue with their offspring.

12hæreditas sancta nepotes eorum,Their descendants are a holy inheritance,et in testamentis stetit semen eorum:and their offspring stand firm in the covenants.

13et filii eorum propter illos usque in æternum manent:And because of them,semen eorumtheir sons remain even unto eternity.et gloria eorum non derelinquetur.Their offspring and their glory will not be forsaken.

14Corpora ipsorum in pace sepulta sunt,Their bodies were buried in peace,et nomen eorum vivit in generationemand their name lives on,et generationem.from generation to generation.

15Sapientiam ipsorum narrent populi,Let the people declare their wisdom,et laudem eorum nuntiet ecclesia.and let the Church announce their praise.

16Enoch placuit Deo,Enoch pleased God,et translatus est in paradisum,and he was transferred to Paradise,ut det gentibus pœnitentiam.so that he might offer repentance to the nations.

17Noë inventus est perfectus,Noah was found to be perfect and just,justus,and so,et in tempore iracundiæ factus est reconciliatio.in the time of wrath, he was made a reconciliation.

18Ideo dimissum est reliquum terræ,As a result, there was a remnant left for the earth,cum factum est diluvium.when the great flood was made.

19Testamenta sæculi posita sunt apud illum,The covenants of the world were placed with him,ne deleri possit diluvio omnis caro.so that all flesh would not be wiped away by the great flood.

20Abraham magnus pater multitudinis gentium,Abraham was the great father of a multitude of nations,et non est inventus similis illi in gloria:and no one was found to be like him in glory.qui conservavit legem Excelsi,He observed the law of the Most High,et fuit in testamento cum illo.and he formed a covenant with him.

21In carne ejus stare fecit testamentum,In his flesh, he caused the covenant to stand,et in tentatione inventus est fidelis.and when tested, he was found to be faithful.

22Ideo jurejurando dedit illi gloriam in gente sua,Therefore, by an oath, he gave glory to him among his people,crescere illum quasi terræ cumulum,so as to increase him like the dust of the earth,

23et ut stellas exaltare semen ejus,and to exalt his offspring like the stars,et hæreditare illos a mari usque ad mare,and to give an inheritance to them from sea to sea,et a flumine usque ad terminos terræ.and from the river even to the ends of the earth.

24Et in Isaac eodem modo fecit,And he acted in like manner toward Isaac,propter Abraham patrem ejus.because of his father Abraham.

25Benedictionem omnium gentium dedit illi Dominus,The Lord gave the blessing of all the nations to him,et testamentum confirmavit super caput Jacob.and he confirmed his covenant upon the head of Jacob.

26Agnovit eum in benedictionibus suis,He acknowledged him in his blessings,et dedit illi hæreditatem,and he gave an inheritance to him,et divisit illi partem in tribubus duodecim.and he distributed to him the portion of the twelve tribes.

27Et conservavit illi homines misericordiæ,And he preserved for him men of mercy,invenientes gratiam in oculis omnis carnis.who were found to have grace before the eyes of all flesh.
