Congregavi autem eos ad fluvium qui decurrit ad Ahava,Now I gathered them together at the river that runs down to Ahava,et mansimus ibi tribus diebus:and we stayed there for three days.quæsivique in populo et in sacerdotibus de filiis Levi,And I sought among the people and among the priests for the sons of Levi,et non inveni ibi.and I found none there.
Itaque misi Eliezer,And so I sent Eliezer,et Ariel,and Ariel,et Semeiam,and Shemaiah,et Elnathan,and Elnathan,et Jarib,and Jarib,et alterum Elnathan,and another Elnathan,et Nathan,and Nathan,et Zachariam,and Zechariah,et Mosollam principes:and Meshullam, who were leaders,et Jojarib, et Elnathan sapientes.and Joiarib and Elnathan, who were wise.
Et misi eos ad Eddo,And I sent them to Iddo, qui est primus in Chasphiæ loco, who is first within the place of Casiphia.et posui in ore eorum verba,And I placed in their mouth the words that they should speak to Iddo and his brothers,quæ loquerentur ad Eddo, the temple servants,et fratres ejus Nathinæos in loco Chasphiæ,in the place of Casiphia,ut adducerent nobis ministros domus Dei nostri.so that they would lead to us ministers for the house of our God.
Et adduxerunt nobis per manum Dei nostri bonam super nos,And because the good hand of our God was over us,virum doctissimum de filiis Moholi filii Levi, they led to us a very learned man from the sons of Mahli, filii Israël,the son of Levi,et Sarabiamthe son of Israel,et filios ejuswith Sherebiah,et fratres ejus decemand his sons,et octo, and his eighteen brothers,
et Hasabiam, and Hashabiah,et cum eo Isaiam de filiis Merari, and with him Jeshaiah, of the sons of Merari, fratresque ejus, and his brothers,et filios ejus viginti:and his sons, numbering twenty.
et de Nathinæis,And from the temple servants, quos dederat Davidwhom David,et principes ad ministeria Levitarum, and the leaders had provided for the ministry of the Levites,Nathinæos ducentos viginti:there were two hundred twenty temple servants.omnes hi suis nominibus vocabantur. All these were called by their names.
Et prædicavi ibi jejunium juxta fluvium Ahava,And I proclaimed a fast in that place, beside the river Ahava,ut affligeremur coram Domino Deo nostro, et peteremus ab eo viam rectam nobis et filiis nostris,so that we might afflict ourselves in the sight of the Lord our God, and so that we might request of him the right way for us,universæque substantiæ nostræ.and for our sons, and for all our substance.
Erubui enim petere a rege auxilium et equites,For I was ashamed to petition the king for assistance and for horsemen, qui defenderent nos ab inimico in via:who would defend us from the enemy along the way.quia dixeramus regi:For we had said to the king:Manus Dei nostri est super omnes qui quærunt eum in bonitate:“The hand of our God is over all those who seek him in goodness.et imperium ejus,And his authority,et fortitudo ejus, et furor, and his strength and fury, super omnes qui derelinquunt eum.is over all those who forsake him.”
Jejunavimus autem,And so we fasted and begged our God for this;et rogavimus Deum nostrum per hoc:and as a result,et evenit nobis prospere.we prospered.
Et separavi de principibus sacerdotum duodecim,And I separated twelve from among the leaders of the priests:Sarabiam,Sherebiah,et Hasabiam, and Hashabiah,et cum eis de fratribus eorum decem:and with them ten of their brothers.
appendique eis argentum et aurum,And I weighed out to them the silver and the gold,et vasa consecrata domus Dei nostri, and the vessels consecrated to the house of our God,quæ obtulerat rex et consiliatores ejus, which had been offered by the king,et principes ejus, and by his counselors and his leaders, universusque Israël eorum qui inventi fuerant:and by all those of Israel who had been found.
et appendi in manibus eorum argenti talenta sexcenta quinquaginta,And I weighed out to their hands six hundred fifty talents of silver,et vasa argentea centum, and one hundred vessels of silver, auri centum talenta:and one hundred talents of gold,
et crateres aureos viginti, qui habebant solidos millenos, and twenty gold bowls which had the weight of one thousand coins,et vasa æris fulgentis optimi duo,and two vessels of the finest shining brass, pulchra ut aurum.as beautiful as gold.
Et dixi eis:And I said to them:Vos sancti Domini,“You are the holy ones of the Lord,et vasa sancta, and the vessels are holy,et argentumwith the silver and the gold,et aurum, which has been offered freely to the Lord, quod sponte oblatum est Domino Deo patrum nostrorum:the God of our fathers.
vigilate et custodite,Watch and guard them, donec appendatis coram principibus sacerdotum, et Levitarum, until you weigh them out before the leaders of the priests and the Levites,et ducibus familiarum Israël in Jerusalem, and the rulers of the families of Israel in Jerusalem,in thesaurum domus Domini.into the treasury of the house of the Lord.”
Susceperunt autem sacerdotesThen the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver,et Levitæ pondus argenti, and the gold,et auri, and the vessels,et vasorum,so that they might carry these to Jerusalem,ut deferrent Jerusalem in domum Dei nostri.into the house of our God.
Promovimus ergo a flumine Ahava duodecimo die mensis primi ut pergeremus Jerusalem:Therefore, we set out from the river Ahava, on the twelfth day of the first month,et manus Dei nostri fuit super nos,so that we might travel to Jerusalem. And the hand of our God was over us,et liberavit nos de manu inimici et insidiatoris in via.and he freed us from the hand of the enemy and of those who lay in ambush along the way.
Et venimus Jerusalem,And we arrived at Jerusalem,et mansimus ibi tribus diebus.and we stayed there for three days.
Die autem quarta appensum est argentum, et aurum, et vasa in domo Dei nostri per manum Meremoth filii Uriæ sacerdotis, et cum eo Eleazar filius Phinees, cumque eis Jozabed filius Josue, et Noadaia filius Bennoi Levitæ,Then, on the fourth day, the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed out in the house of our God, by the hand of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas, and with them were the Levites, Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui.
juxta numerum et pondus omnium:This was done according to the number and weight of everything;descriptumque est omne pondus in tempore illo.and every weight was written down at that time.
Sed et qui venerant de captivitate filii transmigrationis,Moreover, those who came from the captivity, the sons of the transmigration, obtulerunt holocautomata Deo Israël,offered holocausts to the God of Israel:vitulos duodecim pro omni populo Israël, arietes nonaginta sex, twelve calves on behalf of all the people of Israel, ninety-six rams, agnos septuaginta septem,seventy-seven lambs, hircos pro peccato duodecim:and twelve he-goats for sin.omnia in holocaustum Domino. All these were a holocaust to the Lord.
Dederunt autem edicta regis satrapis qui erant de conspectu regis,Then they gave the edicts of the king to the rulers who served in the sight of the king,et ducibus trans flumen, and to the governors beyond the river,et elevaverunt populum et domum Dei.and they exalted the people and the house of God.
