Erit autem sanguis vobis in signum in ædibus in quibus eritis:But the blood will be for you as a sign in the buildings where you will be.et videbo sanguinem,And I will see the blood,et transibo vos:and I will pass over you.nec erit in vobis plaga disperdens quando percussero terram Ægypti. And the plague will not be with you to destroy, when I strike the land of Egypt.
Habebitis autem hunc diem in monimentum:Then you shall have this day as a memorial,et celebrabitis eam solemnem Domino in generationibus vestris cultu sempiterno.and you shall celebrate it as a solemnity to the Lord, in your generations, as an everlasting devotion.
Septem diebus azyma comedetis:For seven days, you shall eat unleavened bread.in die primo non erit fermentum in domibus vestris:On the first day there shall be no leaven in your houses.quicumque comederit fermentatum,Whoever will consume anything leavened, peribit anima illa de Israël,from the first day, even until the seventh day,a primo die usque ad diem septimum.that soul shall perish from Israel.

Omne fermentatum non comedetis:You shall not consume any leaven.in cunctis habitaculis vestris edetis azyma. In all your dwelling places, you shall eat unleavened bread.”
Vocavit autem Moyses omnes seniores filiorum Israël,Then Moses called all the elders of the sons of Israel,et dixit ad eos:and he said to them:Ite tollentes animal per familias vestras,“Go, taking an animal by your families,et immolate Phase.and sacrifice the Passover.
Fasciculumque hyssopi tingite in sanguine qui est in limine,And dip a little bundle of hyssop in the blood which is at the entrance,et aspergite ex eo superliminare, and sprinkle the upper threshold with it,et utrumque postem:and both of the door posts.nullus vestrum egrediatur ostium domus suæ usque mane.Let none of you go out of the door of his house until morning.
Transibit enim Dominus percutiens Ægyptios:For the Lord will cross through, cumque viderit sanguinem in superliminari, striking the Egyptians.et in utroque poste,And when he will see the blood on the upper threshold, transcendet ostium domus, and on both the door posts,et non sinet percussorem ingredi domos vestras et lædere.he will pass over the door of the house and not permit the Striker to enter into your houses or to do harm.
Custodi verbum istud legitimum tibiYou shall keep this word as a law for you and for your sons,et filiis tuis usque in æternum.forever.
Cumque introieritis terram,And when you have entered into the land that the Lord will give to you, quam Dominus daturus est vobis ut pollicitus est, just as he has promised, observabitis cæremonias istas.you shall observe these ceremonies.
Et cum dixerint vobis filii vestri:And when your sons will say to you,Quæ est ista religio?‘What is the meaning of this religious observance?’
Dicetis eis:You shall say to them:Victima transitus Domini est,‘It is the victim of the crossing of the Lord, quando transivit super domos filiorum Israël in Ægypto, when he passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt, percutiens Ægyptios, striking the Egyptians,et domos nostras liberans.and freeing our houses.’”Incurvatusque populus adoravit. And the people, bowing down, worshipped.
Et egressi filii Israël fecerunt sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi et Aaron. And the sons of Israel, departing, did just as the Lord had instructed Moses and Aaron.
Factum est autem in noctis medio,Then it happened, in the middle of the night:percussit Dominus omne primogenitum in terra Ægypti, the Lord struck down every firstborn in the land of Egypt,a primogenito Pharaonis, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, qui in solio ejus sedebat, who sits on his throne, usque ad primogenitum captivæ quæ erat in carcere, even to the firstborn of the captive woman who was in prison,et omne primogenitum jumentorum.and all the firstborn of the cattle.
Surrexitque Pharao nocte,And Pharaoh rose up in the night,et omnes servi ejus, and all his servants, cunctaque Ægyptus:and all of Egypt.et ortus est clamor magnus in Ægypto:And there arose a great outcry in Egypt.neque enim erat domus in qua non jaceret mortuus. For there was not a house in which no one lay dead.
Vocatisque Pharao Moyse et Aaron nocte,And Pharaoh, calling Moses and Aaron in the night, ait:said:Surgite et egredimini a populo meo,“Rise up and go forth from among my people, vos et filii Israël: ite,you and the sons of Israel. Go,immolate Domino sicut dicitis.sacrifice to the Lord, just as you say.
Oves vestras et armenta assumite ut petieratis,Your sheep and herds take along with you, as you requested,et abeuntes benedicite mihi.and as you go away, bless me.”
Urgebantque Ægyptii populum de terra exire velociter,And the Egyptians urged the people to go away from the land quickly, dicentes:saying,Omnes moriemur.“We will all die.”
Tulit igitur populus conspersam farinam antequam fermentaretur:Therefore, the people took bread dough before it was leavened.et ligans in palliis,And tying it in their cloaks, posuit super humeros suos.they placed it on their shoulders.
Feceruntque filii Israël sicut præceperat Moyses:And the sons of Israel did just as Moses had instructed.et petierunt ab Ægyptiis vasa argentea et aurea,And they petitioned the Egyptians for vessels of silver and of gold, vestemque plurimam.and very many garments.
Dominus autem dedit gratiam populo coram Ægyptiis ut commodarent eis:Then the Lord granted favor to the people in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they bestowed on them.et spoliaverunt Ægyptios. And they despoiled the Egyptians.
Profectique sunt filii Israël de Ramesse in Socoth,And the sons of Israel set out from Rameses to Soccoth, sexcenta fere millia peditum virorum, about six hundred thousand men on foot, absque parvulis.besides little ones.
Sed et vulgus promiscuum innumerabile ascendit cum eis,But also an innumerable mix of common people ascended with them, oves et armenta et animantia diversi generis multa nimis.sheep and herds and animals of diverse kinds, exceedingly many.
Coxeruntque farinam,And they baked the bread, quam dudum de Ægypto conspersam tulerant:which a little while ago they had taken out of Egypt as dough.et fecerunt subcinericios panes azymos:And they made unleavened bread baked under ashes.neque enim poterant fermentari,For it was not able to be leavened, cogentibus exire Ægyptiis, with the Egyptians compelling them to leaveet nullam facere sinentibus moram:and not permitting them to cause any delay.nec pulmenti quidquam occurrerat præparare.Neither did they have occasion to prepare any meat.
Habitatio autem filiorum Israël qua manserunt in Ægypto,Now the habitation of the sons of Israel, while they remained in Egypt, fuit quadringentorum triginta annorum.was four hundred and thirty years.
Quibus expletis,Having been completed, eadem die egressus est omnis exercitus Domini de terra Ægypti.on the same day all the army of the Lord departed from the land of Egypt.
Nox ista est observabilis Domini,This night is a worthy observance of the Lord, quando eduxit eos de terra Ægypti:when he led them out of the land of Egypt.hanc observare debent omnes filii Israël in generationibus suis. This all the sons of Israel must observe in their generations.
Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron:And the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron:Hæc est religio Phase:“This is the religious observance of the Passover.omnis alienigena non comedet ex eo.No foreigner shall eat from it.
Omnis autem servus emptitius circumcidetur,But every bought servant shall be circumcised,et sic comedet.and so he may eat from it.
Advena et mercenarius non edent ex eo.The newcomer and the hired hand shall not eat from it.
In una domo comedetur,In one house it shall be eaten;nec efferetis de carnibus ejus foras, you shall not carry its flesh outside, nec os illius confringetis.nor shall you break its bone.
Omnis cœtus filiorum Israël faciet illud. The entire assembly of the sons of Israel shall do this.
Quod si quis peregrinorum in vestram voluerit transire coloniam,And if any sojourner will be willing to cross over into your settlement,et facere Phase Domini, and to keep the Passover of the Lord, circumcidetur prius omne masculinum ejus, all his males shall first be circumcised,et tunc rite celebrabit:and then he shall celebrate the rite.eritque sicut indigena terræ:And he shall be just like a native of the land.si quis autem circumcisus non fuerit,But if any man is not circumcised, non vescetur ex eo.he shall not eat from it.
Eadem lex erit indigenæ et colono qui peregrinatur apud vos.The law shall be the same for the native born and for the settler who sojourns with you.”
Feceruntque omnes filii Israël sicut præceperat Dominus Moysi et Aaron. And all the sons of Israel did just as the Lord had instructed Moses and Aaron.
Et eadem die eduxit Dominus filios Israël de terra Ægypti per turmas suas. And on the same day, the Lord led the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.
