1Applica quoque ad te Aaron fratrem tuum cum filiis suis de medio filiorum Israël,“Also,ut sacerdotio fungantur mihi:join to yourself your brother Aaron,Aaron,with his sons from the midst of the sons of Israel,Nadab,so that they may exercise the priesthood for me:et Abiu,Aaron,Eleazar,Nadab and Abihu,et Ithamar.Eleazar and Ithamar.
2Faciesque vestem sanctam Aaron fratri tuo in gloriam et decorem.And you shall make a holy vestment for Aaron, your brother, with glory and elegance.
3Et loqueris cunctis sapientibus corde quos replevi spiritu prudentiæ,And you shall speak to all the wise of heart, whom I have filled with the spirit of prudence,ut faciant vestes Aaron,so that they may make the vestments of Aaron,in quibus sanctificatus ministret mihi.in which, having been sanctified, he may minister to me.
4Hæc autem erunt vestimenta quæ faciet:Now these shall be the vestments that they shall make:rationale et superhumerale,A breastplate and an ephod,tunicam et lineam strictam,a tunic and a close-fit linen garment,cidarim et balteum.a headdress and a wide belt.Facient vestimenta sancta fratri tuo Aaron et filiis ejus,They shall make the holy vestments for your brother Aaron and his sons,ut sacerdotio fungantur mihi.so that they may exercise the priesthood for me.
5Accipientque aurum,And they shall receive gold,et hyacinthum,and hyacinth,et purpuram,and purple,coccumque bis tinctum,and twice-dyed scarlet,et byssum.and fine linen.
6Facient autem superhumerale de auroThen they shall make the ephod of gold,et hyacinthoand hyacinth,et purpura,and purple,coccoque bis tincto,and twice-dyed scarlet,et bysso retorta,and fine twisted linen,opere polymito.wrought with diverse colors.
7Duas oras junctas habebit in utroque latere summitatum,It shall have two edges joined at the top on both sides,ut in unum redeant.so that they may respond as one.
8Ipsa quoque texturaLikewise,et cuncta operis varietas erit ex aurothe weaving and all the detail work shall be of gold,et hyacintho,and hyacinth,et purpura,and purple,coccoque bis tincto,and twice-dyed scarlet,et bysso retorta.and fine twisted linen.
9Sumesque duos lapides onychinos,And you shall take two onyx stoneset sculpes in eis nomina filiorum Israël:and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel:
10sex nomina in lapide uno,six names on one stone,et sex reliqua in altero,and the remaining six on the other,juxta ordinem nativitatis eorum.according to the order of their birth.
11Opere sculptoris et cælatura gemmarii,By the work of a sculptor and the skill of a jeweler,sculpes eos nominibus filiorum Israël,you shall engrave them with the names of the sons of Israel,inclusos auro atque circumdatos:enclosed and encompassed with gold.
12et pones in utroque latere superhumeralis,And you shall place them on both sides of the ephod,memoriale filiis Israël.as a memorial to the sons of Israel.Portabitque Aaron nomina eorum coram Domino super utrumque humerum,And Aaron shall carry their names before the Lord, upon both shoulders,ob recordationem.as a remembrance.
13Facies et uncinos ex auro,You shall also make hooks of gold,
14et duas catenulas ex auro purissimo sibi invicem cohærentes,and two little chains of the purest gold, linked to one another,quas inseres uncinis.which you shall insert into the hooks.
15Rationale quoque judicii facies opere polymito juxta texturam superhumeralis,Likewise, you shall make the breastplate of judgment, wrought with diverse colors according to the weaving of the ephod:ex auro,of gold,hyacintho, et purpura,hyacinth and purple,coccoque bis tincto,and twice-dyed scarlet,et bysso retorta.and fine twisted linen.
16Quadrangulum eritIt shall have four corners and be doubled.et duplex:It shall have the measure of the palm of a hand,mensuram palmi habebit tam in longitudine quam in latitudine.both in length and in width.
17Ponesque in eo quatuor ordines lapidum:And you shall set within it four rows of stones.in primo versu erit lapis sardius,In the first row, there shall be a sardius stone,et topazius,and a topaz,et smaragdus:and an emerald.
18in secundo carbunculus,In the second, there shall be a garnet,sapphirus,a sapphire,et jaspis:and a jasper.
19in tertio ligurius, achates,In the third, there shall be a zircon,et amethystus:an agate, and an amethyst.
20in quarto chrysolithus, onychinus,In the fourth, there shall be a chrysolite,et beryllus.an onyx, and a beryl.Inclusi auro erunt per ordines suos.They shall be set in gold by their rows.
21Habebuntque nomina filiorum Israël:And these shall have the names of the sons of Israel.duodecim nominibus cælabuntur,With twelve names shall they be engraved:singuli lapides nominibus singulorum per duodecim tribus.each stone with one name from the twelve tribes.
22Facies in rationali catenas sibi invicem cohærentes ex auro purissimo,You shall make chains of the purest gold, linked one to another, on the breastplate,
23et duos annulos aureos,and two rings of gold,quos pones in utraque rationalis summitate:which you shall place at both ends of the breastplate.
24catenasque aureas junges annulis,And the golden chains, you shall join to the rings,qui sunt in marginibus ejus,which are at its edges.
25et ipsarum catenarum extrema duobus copulabis uncinis in utroque latere superhumeralis quod rationale respicit.And the ends of the chains themselves, you shall couple with two hooks, on both sides of the ephod, which looks toward the breastplate.
26Facies et duos annulos aureos,You shall also make two rings of gold,quos pones in summitatibus rationalis,which you shall place at the ends of the breastplate,in oris, quæ e regione sunt superhumeralis, et posteriora ejus aspiciunt.at the borders which are away from the region of the ephod and which look toward its back.
27Necnon et alios duos annulos aureos,And then you shall also make two other rings of gold,qui ponendi sunt in utroque latere superhumeralis deorsum,which are to be suspended on both sides at the bottom of the ephod,quod respicit contra faciem juncturæ inferioris,which looks out opposite the face of the lower juncture,ut aptari possit cum superhumerali,so that the breastplate can be fitted to the ephod.
28et stringatur rationale annulis suis cum annulis superhumeralis vitta hyacinthina,And it shall be drawn tight to the rings of the breastplate, by the rings of the ephod, with a hyacinth band,ut maneat junctura fabrefacta,so that the well-constructed juncture will remain in place,et a se invicem rationale et superhumerale nequeant separari.and the breastplate and the ephod will not be able to be separated from one another.
29Portabitque Aaron nomina filiorum Israël in rationali judicii super pectus suum,And Aaron shall carry the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment upon his chest,quando ingredietur Sanctuarium,when he enters into the Sanctuary,memoriale coram Domino in æternum.as a memorial in the presence of the Lord in eternity.
30Pones autem in rationali judicii DoctrinamThen you shall place in the breastplate of judgment,et Veritatem,Doctrine and Truth,quæ erunt in pectore Aaron,which shall then be upon Aaron’s chest,quando ingredietur coram Domino:when he enters before the Lord.et gestabit judicium filiorum Israël in pectore suo,And he shall wear the judgment of the sons of Israel on his chest,in conspectu Domini semper.in the sight of the Lord always.
31Facies et tunicam superhumeralis totam hyacinthinam,And you shall make the tunic for the ephod entirely of hyacinth,
32in cujus medio supra erit capitium,and the head will be above its middle,et ora per gyrum ejus textilis,with a hem woven around it,sicut fieri solet in extremis vestium partibus,just as is usually made at the end parts of a garment,ne facile rumpatur.so that it may not be easily broken.
33Deorsum vero,Yet truly, beneath it,ad pedes ejusdem tunicæ,at the base of the same tunic,per circuitum, quasi mala punica facies,all around, you shall make something like pomegranates,ex hyacintho,from hyacinth,et purpura,and purple,et cocco bis tincto,and twice-dyed scarlet,mistis in medio tintinnabulis,with little bells set in their midst.
34ita ut tintinnabulum sit aureum et malum punicum:So then, there shall be a little golden bell and a pomegranate,rursumque tintinnabulum aliud aureum et malum punicum.and again another golden bell and a pomegranate.
35Et vestietur ea Aaron in officio ministerii,And Aaron will be vested with it during the office of his ministry,ut audiatur sonitus quando ingrediturso that the sound may be heard when he enters and exits the Sanctuary,et egreditur sanctuarium in conspectu Domini,in the sight of the Lord,et non moriatur.and so that he may not die.
36FaciesAnd you shall make a plate of the purest gold,et laminam de auro purissimo,in which you shall engrave,in qua sculpes opere cælatoris,with the skill of a sculptor,Sanctum Domino.‘Holy to the Lord.’
37Ligabisque eam vitta hyacinthina,And you shall fasten it with a band of hyacinth,et erit super tiaram,and it shall be upon the headdress,
38imminens fronti pontificis.hanging in front of the high priest.Portabitque Aaron iniquitates eorum, quæ obtulerunt et sanctificaverunt filii Israël,And Aaron shall carry the iniquities of that which the sons of Israel have offered and sanctified,in cunctis muneribus et donariis suis.in all their gifts and donations.Erit autem lamina semper in fronte ejus,But the plate will always be at his forehead,ut placatus sit eis Dominus.so that the Lord may be well pleased with them.
39Stringesque tunicam bysso,And you shall draw the tunic tight with fine linen,et tiaram byssinam facies,and you shall make a headdress of fine linen,et balteum opere plumarii.and a wide belt, wrought with embroidery.
40Porro filiis Aaron tunicas lineas parabis et balteos ac tiaras in gloriam et decorem:Furthermore, for the sons of Aaron, you shall prepare linen tunics, and wide belts as well as headdresses, with glory and elegance.
41vestiesque his omnibus Aaron fratrem tuumAnd with all these you shall vest your brother Aaron,et filios ejus cum eo.and his sons with him.Et cunctorum consecrabis manus,And you shall consecrate all their hands,sanctificabisque illos,and you shall sanctify them,ut sacerdotio fungantur mihi.so that they may exercise the priesthood for me.
42Facies et feminalia linea,You shall also make linen undergarments,ut operiant carnem turpitudinis suæ,in order to cover the flesh of their nakedness,a renibus usque ad femora:from the kidneys all the way to the thighs.
43et utentur eis Aaron et filii ejus quando ingredientur tabernaculum testimonii,And Aaron and his sons will use them when they enter the tabernacle of the testimony,vel quando appropinquant ad altare ut ministrent in sanctuario,and when they approach toward the altar, in order to minister in the sanctuary, lest,ne iniquitatis rei moriantur.being guilty of iniquity, they may die.Legitimum sempiternum erit Aaron,It shall be a law forever for Aaron,et semini ejus post eum.and for his offspring after him.”
