Dixit quoque Dominus ad Moysen:The Lord also said to Moses:Ingredere ad Pharaonem, et dices ad eum:“Enter to Pharaoh, and you will say to him:Hæc dicit Dominus:‘Thus says the Lord:Dimitte populum meum, ut sacrificet mihi:Release my people in order to sacrifice to me.

sin autem nolueris dimittere,But if you are not willing to release them, ecce ego percutiam omnes terminos tuos ranis, behold, I will strike all your coasts with frogs.

et ebulliet fluvius ranas:And the river will seethe with frogs,quæ ascendent, which will go upet ingredientur domum tuam, and enter into your house,et cubiculum lectuli tui,and your bedroom,et super stratum tuum, and upon your bed,et in domos servorum tuorum, and into the houses of your servantset in populum tuum, and your people,et in furnos tuos, and into your ovens,et in reliquias ciborum tuorum:and into the remains of your foods.

et ad te,And to you,et ad populum tuum, and to your people,et ad omnes servos tuos intrabunt ranæ.and to all your servants, the frogs will enter.’”

Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen:And the Lord said to Moses:Dic ad Aaron:“Say to Aaron:Extende manum tuam super fluvios ac super rivos et paludes,‘Extend your hand over the rivers, and also over the streams and the marshes,et educ ranas super terram Ægypti.and bring forth frogs over the land of Egypt.’”

Et extendit Aaron manum super aquas Ægypti,And Aaron extended his hand over the waters of Egypt,et ascenderunt ranæ,and the frogs came upoperueruntque terram Ægypti.and covered the land of Egypt.

Fecerunt autem et malefici per incantationes suas similiter,Then the sorcerers also, by their incantations, did similarly, eduxeruntque ranas super terram Ægypti.and they brought forth frogs upon the land of Egypt.

Vocavit autem Pharao MoysenBut Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron,et Aaron, and he said to them:et dixit eis:“Pray to the Lord,Orate Dominum ut auferat ranas a meso as to take away the frogs from me and from my people.et a populo meo,And I will release the people,et dimittam populum ut sacrificet Domino.so as to sacrifice to the Lord.”

Dixitque Moyses ad Pharaonem:And Moses said to Pharaoh: “Appoint for me a time,Constitue mihi quando deprecer pro te,when I should petition on behalf of you,et pro servis tuis, and your servants,et pro populo tuo, ut abigantur ranæ a te,and your people, so that the frogs may be driven away from you,et a domo tua,and from your house,et a servis tuis, and from your servants,et a populo tuo:and from your people,et tantum in flumine remaneant.and so that they may remain only in the river.”

Qui respondit: Cras. And he responded, “Tomorrow.”At ille: Juxta,Then he said, inquit, verbum tuum faciam:“I will act according to your word,ut scias quoniam non est sicut Dominus Deus noster.so that you may know that there is no one like the Lord our God.

Et recedent ranæ a te,And the frogs will withdraw from you,et a domo tua,and from your house,et a servis tuis, and from your servants,et a populo tuo:and from your people.et tantum in flumine remanebunt. And they will remain only in the river.”

Egressique sunt Moyses et Aaron a Pharaone:And Moses and Aaron departed from Pharaoh.et clamavit Moyses ad Dominum pro sponsione ranarum quam condixerat Pharaoni. And Moses cried out to the Lord on behalf of the promise that he had made to Pharaoh concerning the frogs.

Fecitque Dominus juxta verbum Moysi:And the Lord acted according to the word of Moses.et mortuæ sunt ranæ de domibus,And the frogs died out of the houses,et de villis, and out of the villages,et de agris.and out of the fields.

Congregaveruntque eas in immensos aggeres,And they gathered them together into immense piles,et computruit terra.and the land was polluted.

Videns autem Pharao quod data esset requies,Then Pharaoh, seeing that relief had been provided, ingravavit cor suum, hardened his own heart,et non audivit eos,and he did not listen to them, sicut præceperat Dominus.just as the Lord had instructed.

Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen:And the Lord said to Moses:Loquere ad Aaron:“Say to Aaron:Extende virgam tuam,‘Extend your staffet percute pulverem terræ:and strike the dust of the earth.et sint sciniphes in universa terra Ægypti. And let there be stinging insects throughout the entire the land of Egypt.’”

Feceruntque ita.And they did so.Et extendit Aaron manum,And Aaron extended his hand, virgam tenens:holding the staff, percussitque pulverem terræ,and he struck the dust of the earth,et facti sunt sciniphes in hominibus, and there came stinging insects upon menet in jumentis:and upon beasts.omnis pulvis terræ versus est in sciniphes per totam terram Ægypti. All the dust of the earth was turned into stinging insects through all the land of Egypt.

Feceruntque similiter malefici incantationibus suis,And the sorcerers, with their incantations, did similarly,ut educerent sciniphes,in order to bring forth stinging insects,et non potuerunt:but they were not able.erantque sciniphes tam in hominibus quam in jumentis. And there were stinging insects, as much on men as on beasts.

Et dixerunt malefici ad Pharaonem:And the sorcerers said to Pharaoh:Digitus Dei est hic;“This is the finger of God.”induratumque est cor Pharaonis,And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened,et non audivit eos sicut præceperat Dominus.and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had instructed.

Dixit quoque Dominus ad Moysen:The Lord also said to Moses:Consurge diluculo,“Arise at first light,et sta coram Pharaone:and stand in the sight of Pharaoh, egredietur enim ad aquas:for he will go out to the waters.et dices ad eum:And you will say to him:Hæc dicit Dominus:‘Thus says the Lord:Dimitte populum meum ut sacrificet mihi.Release my people to sacrifice to me.

Quod si non dimiseris eum,But if you will not release them, ecce ego immittam in te,behold, I will send upon you,et in servos tuos, and upon your servants,et in populum tuum, and upon your people,et in domos tuas, and into your houses, omne genus muscarum:diverse kinds of flies.et implebuntur domus Ægyptiorum muscis diversi generis,And the houses of the Egyptians will be filled with diverse kinds of flies,et universa terra in qua fuerint.as well as the whole land in which they will be.

Faciamque mirabilem in die illa terram Gessen,And in that day, I will cause a miracle in the land of Goshen,in qua populus meus est, ut non sint ibi muscæ:where my people are, so that flies will not be there.et scias quoniam ego Dominus in medio terræ.And you will know that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth.

Ponamque divisionem inter populum meum et populum tuum:And I will set a division between my people and your people.cras erit signum istud.Tomorrow this sign will be.’”

Fecitque Dominus ita.And the Lord did so.Et venit musca gravissima in domos Pharaonis et servorum ejus,And there came very grievous flies into the houses of Pharaoh and of his servants,et in omnem terram Ægypti:and into all the land of Egypt.corruptaque est terra ab hujuscemodi muscis. And the land was polluted, in this way, by the flies.

Vocavitque Pharao Moysen et Aaron,And Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron,et ait eis:and he said to them,Ite et sacrificate Deo vestro in terra hac.“Go and sacrifice to your God in this land.”

Et ait Moyses:And Moses said:Non potest ita fieri: abominationes enim Ægyptiorum immolabimus Domino Deo nostro:“It cannot be so. For we will immolate the abominations of the Egyptians to the Lord our God.quod si mactaverimus ea quæ colunt Ægyptii coram eis,For if we slaughter those things which the Egyptians worship, lapidibus nos obruent.in their presence, they will stone us.

Viam trium dierum pergemus in solitudinem:We will sojourn three days’ journey into the wilderness.et sacrificabimus Domino Deo nostro,And we will sacrifice to the Lord our God,sicut præcepit nobis.just as he has instructed us.”

Dixitque Pharao:And Pharaoh said:Ego dimittam vos ut sacrificetis Domino Deo vestro in deserto:“I will release you in order to sacrifice to the Lord your God in the desert.verumtamen longius ne abeatis,Yet you may only go so far.rogate pro me.Petition for me.”

At ait Moyses: Egressus a te,And Moses said: “After departing from you, orabo Dominum:I will pray to the Lord.et recedet musca a Pharaone,And the flies will withdraw from Pharaoh,et a servis suis, and from his servants,et a populo ejus cras:and from his people, tomorrow.verumtamen noli ultra fallere,Yet do not be willing to deceive any longer,ut non dimittas populum sacrificare Domino.so that you would not release the people to sacrifice to the Lord.”

Egressusque Moyses a Pharaone,And Moses, departing from Pharaoh, oravit Dominum.prayed to the Lord.

Qui fecit juxta verbum illius,And he acted according to his word.et abstulit muscas a Pharaone,And he took away the flies from Pharaoh,et a servis suis, and from his servants,et a populo ejus:and from his people.non superfuit ne una quidem. There was not even one left behind.

Et ingravatum est cor Pharaonis,And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, ita ut nec hac quidem vice dimitteret populum.so that, even at this turn, he would not release the people.
