Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man,in medio domus exasperantis tu habitas:you live in the midst of a provoking house.qui oculos habent ad videndum,They have eyes to see,et non vident, and they do not see;et aures ad audiendum, and ears to hear,et non audiunt:and they do not hear.quia domus exasperans est.For they are a provoking house.
Tu ergo,As for you, fili hominis, then, son of man,fac tibi vasa transmigrationis, prepare for yourself the supplies for traveling far away,et transmigrabis per diem coram eis.and travel away in the daytime in their sight.Transmigrabis autem de loco tuo ad locum alterum in conspectu eorum, si forte aspiciant,And you shall travel from your place to another place in their sight, so that perhaps they may consider it.quia domus exasperans est:For they are a provoking house.
et efferes foras vasa tua quasi vasa transmigrantis per diem in conspectu eorum:And you shall carry your supplies outside, like the supplies of one who is traveling far away, in the daytime in their sight.tu autem egredieris vespere coram eis,Then you shall go forth in the evening in their presence, sicut egreditur migrans.just as one goes forth who is moving far away.
Ante oculos eorum perfode tibi parietem,Dig for yourself through the wall, before their eyes.et egredieris per eum.And you shall go out through it.
In conspectu eorum in humeris portaberis; In their sight, you shall be carried on shoulders,in caligine effereris:you shall be carried in the dark.faciem tuam velabis,You shall cover your face,et non videbis terram, and you shall not see the ground.quia portentum dedi te domui Israël.For I have appointed you as a portent for the house of Israel.”
Feci ergo sicut præceperat mihi Dominus:Therefore, I did just as he had instructed me.vasa mea protuli quasi vasa transmigrantis per diem,I brought out my supplies in the daytime, like the supplies of one who is moving far away.et vespere perfodi mihi parietem manu:And in the evening, I dug myself through the wall by hand.et in caligine egressus sum,And I went out in the dark,in humeris portatus in conspectu eorum.and I was carried on shoulders, in their sight.
Et factus est sermo Domini mane ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me, in the morning, dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, numquid non dixerunt ad te domus Israël,has not the house of Israel, the provoking house, domus exasperans: Quid tu facis?said to you: ‘What are you doing?’
Dic ad eos:Say to them:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Super ducem onus istud, qui est in Jerusalem,This is the burden concerning my leader who is in Jerusalem,et super omnem domum Israël, quæ est in medio eorum.and concerning the entire house of Israel, who are in their midst.
Dic:Say:Ego portentum vestrum:I am your portent.quomodo feci,Just as I have done, sic fiet illis:so shall it be done to them.in transmigrationem et in captivitatem ibunt. They will be taken captive and moved far away.
Et dux qui est in medio eorum, in humeris portabitur; And the leader who is in their midst will be carried on shoulders;in caligine egredietur:he will go forth in darkness.parietem perfodient,They will dig through the wall,ut educant eum; facies ejus operietur,so that they may lead him away. His face will be covered,ut non videat oculo terram.so that he may not see the land with his eye.
Et extendam rete meum super eum,And I will extend my net over him,et capietur in sagena mea:and he will be captured in my dragnet.et adducam eum in Babylonem,And I will lead him to Babylon,in terram Chaldæorum, into the land of the Chaldeans,et ipsam non videbit:but he himself will not see it.ibique morietur. And there he shall die.
Et omnes qui circa eum sunt,And all who are around him,præsidium ejus, his guardset agmina ejus, and his companies, dispergam in omnem ventum,I will scatter into every wind.et gladium evaginabo post eos.And I will unsheathe the sword after them.
Et scient quia ego Dominus,And they shall know that I am the Lord, quando dispersero illos in gentibus, when I will have dispersed them among the Gentiles,et disseminavero eos in terris.and will have sowed them among the lands.
Et relinquam ex eis viros paucos a gladio,And I will leave behind a few men of them, apart from the sword,et fame, and the famine,et pestilentia, and the pestilence,ut enarrent omnia scelera eorum in gentibus ad quas ingredientur,so that they may declare all their wicked deeds among the Gentiles, to whom they will go.et scient quia ego Dominus. And they shall know that I am the Lord.”
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, panem tuum in conturbatione comede, eat your bread in consternation.sed et aquam tuam in festinatione et mœrore bibe. Moreover, drink your water hurriedly and in sorrow.
Et dices ad populum terræ:And say to the people of the land:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus ad eos qui habitant in Jerusalem,Thus says the Lord God, to those who are living in Jerusalem,in terra Israël:in the land of Israel:Panem suum in sollicitudine comedent,They shall eat their bread in anxiety,et aquam suam in desolatione bibent:and drink their water in desolation,ut desoletur terra a multitudine sua,so that the land may be desolate before its multitude, propter iniquitatem omnium qui habitant in ea.because of the iniquity of all who are living in it.
Et civitates quæ nunc habitantur, desolatæ erunt,And cities that are now inhabited will become desolate, terraque deserta, and the land will be forsaken.et scietis quia ego Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, quod est proverbium istud vobis in terra Israël,what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel?dicentium:saying:In longum differentur dies,‘The days shall be extended in length,et peribit omnis visio?and every vision shall perish.’
Ideo dic ad eos:Therefore, say to them:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Quiescere faciam proverbium istud,I will cause this proverb to cease, neque vulgo dicetur ultra in Israël: et loquere ad eos quod appropinquaverint dies, and it shall no longer be a common saying in Israel. And tell them that the days are approaching,et sermo omnis visionis.and the word of every vision.
Non enim erit ultra omnis visio cassa,For there shall no longer be any empty visions, neque divinatio ambigua in medio filiorum Israël:nor any ambiguous divination in the midst of the sons of Israel.
quia ego Dominus loquar,For I, the Lord, will speak.et quodcumque locutus fuero verbum, fiet,And whatever word I will speak, it shall be done,et non prolongabitur amplius:and it shall not be delayed any more.sed in diebus vestris,Instead, in your days, domus exasperans,O provoking house, loquar verbum, et faciam illud,I will speak a word and do it,dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, behold the house of Israel, ecce domus Israël dicentium: Visio quam hic videt, those who are saying: ‘The visions that this one sees is many days away,’in dies multos et in tempora longa iste prophetat.and, ‘This man prophesies about times that are far away.’
Propterea dic ad eos:Because of this,Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:say to them:Non prolongabitur ultra omnis sermo meus:Thus says the Lord God:verbum quod locutus fuero,No word of mine will be delayed any longer.complebitur,The word that I will speak will be fulfilled, dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”
