Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:

Fili hominis,“Son of man, vaticinare ad prophetas Israël qui prophetant, prophesy to the prophets of Israel who are prophesying,et dices prophetantibus de corde suo:and you shall say to those who prophesy from their own heart:Audite verbum Domini.Hear the word of the Lord:

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Væ prophetis insipientibus,Woe to the foolish prophets, qui sequuntur spiritum suum, who are following their own spirit,et nihil vident!and who see nothing.

Quasi vulpes in desertis prophetæ tui,Your prophets,Israël,O Israel, erant.were like foxes in the deserts.

Non ascendistis ex adverso,You have not gone up against the adversary, neque opposuistis murum pro domo Israël,and you have not established a wall for the house of Israel,ut staretis in prælio in die Domini.so as to stand in battle on the day of the Lord.

Vident vana,They see emptiness,et divinant mendacium, and they foretell falsehoods, dicentes:saying,Ait Dominus,‘The Lord says,’cum Dominus non miserit eos:though the Lord has not sent them.et perseveraverunt confirmare sermonem. And they continued to affirm what they said.

Numquid non visionem cassam vidistis,Have you not seen a futile visionet divinationem mendacem locuti estis, and spoken a lying divination?et dicitis:And yet you say,Ait Dominus,‘The Lord says,’cum ego non sim locutus?though I have not spoken.

Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Because of this, thus says the Lord God:Quia locuti estis vana, et vidistis mendacium,Since you have spoken emptiness and have seen falsehoods, therefore:ideo ecce ego ad vos, behold, I am against you, dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.

Et erit manus mea super prophetas qui vident vana,And my hand will be over the prophets who are seeing emptinesset divinant mendacium:and divining lies.in consilio populi mei non erunt,They shall not be in the council of my people,et in scriptura domus Israël non scribentur, and they shall not be written in the writing of the house of Israel.nec in terram Israël ingredientur,Neither shall they enter into the land of Israel.et scietis quia ego Dominus Deus:And you shall know that I am the Lord God.

eo quod deceperint populum meum,For they have deceived my people, dicentes:saying,Pax,‘Peace,’et non est pax:and there is no peace.et ipse ædificabat parietem,And they have built a wall, illi autem liniebant eum luto absque paleis.but they have covered it in clay without straw.

Dic ad eos qui liniunt absque temperatura,Say to those who spread mortar without mixing, quod casurus sit:that it will fall apart.erit enim imber inundans,For there will be an inundating rain,et dabo lapides prægrandes desuper irruentes, and I will cause full-grown hailstones to rush down from above,et ventum procellæ dissipantem.and a windstorm to dissipate it.

Siquidem ecce cecidit paries:So then, behold: when the wall has fallen, numquid non dicetur vobis: Ubi est litura quam linistis?will it not be said to you: ‘Where is the mortar with which you covered it?’

Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Because of this, thus says the Lord God:Et erumpere faciam spiritum tempestatum in indignatione mea,And I will cause a violent wind to burst forth in my indignation,et imber inundans in furore meo erit, and there will be an inundating rain in my fury,et lapides grandes in ira in consumptionem.and great hailstones in wrath, to consume.

Et destruam parietem quem linistis absque temperamento,And I will destroy the wall that you have covered without tempering it.et adæquabo eum terræ,And I will level it to the ground,et revelabitur fundamentum ejus:and its foundation will be revealed.et cadet,And it will fallet consumetur in medio ejus, and be consumed in its midst.et scietis quia ego sum Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

Et complebo indignationem meam in pariete,And I will fulfill my indignation against the wall,et in his qui liniunt eum absque temperamento:and against those who cover it without mixing the mortar, dicamque vobis:and I will say to you:Non est paries,The wall is no more,et non sunt qui liniunt eum:and those who covered it are no more:

prophetæ Israël,the prophets of Israel, qui prophetant ad Jerusalem, who prophesy to Jerusalem,et vident ei visionem pacis, et non est pax,and who see visions of peace for her when there is no peace, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.

Et tu, fili hominis,And as for you, son of man, pone faciem tuam contra filias populi tui quæ prophetant de corde suo:set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy from their own heart.et vaticinare super eas,And prophesy about them,

et dic:and say:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Væ quæ consuunt pulvillos sub omni cubito manus,Woe to those who sew together little pillows under every forearm,et faciunt cervicalia sub capite universæ ætatis ad capiendas animas:and who make little cushions for the heads of every stage of life, in order to capture souls.et cum caperent animas populi mei,And when they have seized the souls of my people, vivificabant animas eorum!they became the life of their souls.

Et violabant me ad populum meum propter pugillum hordei,And they violated me among my people,et fragmen panis, for the sake of a handful of barley and a fragment of bread,ut interficerent animas quæ non moriuntur,so that they would kill the souls that should not die,et vivificarent animas quæ non vivunt, and enliven the souls that should not live, mentientes populo meo credenti mendaciis.lying to my people who believe in falsehoods.

Propter hoc hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Because of this, thus says the Lord God:Ecce ego ad pulvillos vestros,Behold, I am against your little pillows, quibus vos capitis animas volantes:with which you catch flying souls.et dirumpam eos de brachiis vestris,And I will tear them away from your arms.et dimittam animas quas vos capitis,And I will release the souls that you are capturing, animas ad volandum.the souls that should fly.

Et dirumpam cervicalia vestra,And I will tear away your little cushions.et liberabo populum meum de manu vestra,And I will free my people from your hand.neque erunt ultra in manibus vestris ad prædandum:And they shall no longer be a prey in your hands.et scietis quia ego Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

Pro eo quod mœrere fecistis cor justi mendaciter,For by deception you have caused the heart of the just to grieve, quem ego non contristavi, whom I would not sadden.et confortastis manus impii,And I have strengthened the hands of the impious,ut non reverteretur a via sua mala,so that he would not be turned back from his evil wayet viveret:and live.

propterea vana non videbitis,Therefore, you shall not see emptiness,et divinationes non divinabitis amplius, and you shall not divine divinations, any more.et eruam populum meum de manu vestra:And I will rescue my people from your hand.et scietis quia ego Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.”
