Et factum est in undecimo anno,And it happened that, in the eleventh year, prima mensis: factus est sermo Domini ad me,on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:

Fili hominis,“Son of man,pro eo quod dixit Tyrus de Jerusalem:because Tyre has said about Jerusalem:Euge,‘It is Well!confractæ sunt portæ populorum,The gates of the peoples have been broken!conversa est ad me:She has been turned toward me.implebor;I will be filled.deserta est:She will be deserted!’

propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus:because of this, thus says the Lord God:Ecce ego super te,Behold, I am against you,Tyre,O Tyre,et ascendere faciam ad te gentes multas, and I will cause many nations to rise up against you, sicut ascendit mare fluctuans.just as the waves of the sea rise up.

Et dissipabunt muros Tyri,And they will break apart the walls of Tyre,et destruent turres ejus:and they will destroy its towers.et radam pulverem ejus de ea,And I will scrape her dust from her,et dabo eam in limpidissimam petram.and I will make her into the barest rock.

Siccatio sagenarum erit in medio maris,She will be a drying place for nets from the midst of the sea.quia ego locutus sum,For I have spoken, ait Dominus Deus:says the Lord God.et erit in direptionem gentibus. And she will be a spoil for the Gentiles.

Filiæ quoque ejus quæ sunt in agro,Likewise, gladio interficientur:her daughters who are in the field will be slain by the sword.et scient quia ego Dominus. And they shall know that I am the Lord.

Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus:For thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will lead into Tyre:Ecce ego adducam ad Tyrum Nabuchodonosor regem Babylonis ab aquilone,Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, a king among kings, regem regum, from the north, cum equis, with horses,et curribus, and chariots,et equitibus, et cœtu,and horsemen, and companies, populoque magno.and a great people.

Filias tuas quæ sunt in agro,Your daughters who are in the field, gladio interficiet,he will kill with the sword.et circumdabit te munitionibus,And he will surround you with fortifications,et comportabit aggerem in gyro, and he will put together a rampart on all sides.et elevabit contra te clypeum:And he will lift up a shield against you.

et vineas et arietes temperabit in muros tuos,And he will combine moveable shelters and battering rams before your walls,et turres tuas destruet in armatura sua.and he will destroy your towers with his armaments.

Inundatione equorum ejus operiet te pulvis eorum:He will cover you with the inundation of his horses and with their dust.a sonitu equitum, et rotarum, et curruum,Your walls will shake at the sound of horsemen and wheels and chariots, movebuntur muri tui, cum ingressus fuerit portas tuas quasi per introitum urbis dissipatæ.when they will have entered your gates, as if through the entrance of a city that has been broken open.

Ungulis equorum suorum conculcabit omnes plateas tuas:With the hoofs of his horses, he will trample all your streets.populum tuum gladio cædet,He will cut down your people with the sword,et statuæ tuæ nobiles in terram corruent.and your noble statues will fall to the ground.

Vastabunt opes tuas,They will lay waste to your wealth.diripient negotiationes tuas,They will despoil your businesses.et destruent muros tuos,And they will tear down your wallset domos tuas præclaras subvertent:and overturn your eminent houses.et lapides tuos,And they will put your stoneset ligna tua,and your timberet pulverem tuum in medio aquarum ponent.and your dust into the midst of the waters.

Et quiescere faciam multitudinem canticorum tuorum:And I will cause the multitude of your songs to cease.et sonitus cithararum tuarum non audietur amplius. And the sound of your stringed instruments will no longer be heard.

Et dabo te in limpidissimam petram,And I will make you like the barest rock;siccatio sagenarum eris, you will be a drying place for nets.nec ædificaberis ultra,And you will no longer be built up.quia ego locutus sum,For I have spoken, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus Tyro:Thus says the Lord God to Tyre:Numquid non a sonitu ruinæ tuæ, et gemitu interfectorum tuorum,“Will not the islands shake at the sound of your ruin and at the groans of your slain, cum occisi fuerint in medio tui, commovebuntur insulæ?when they will have been cut down in your midst?

Et descendent de sedibus suis omnes principes maris,And all the leaders of the sea will descend from their thrones.et auferent exuvias suas,And they will cast aside their outer garmentset vestimenta sua varia abjicient, and their colorful clothing,et induentur stupore:and they will be clothed in stupor.in terra sedebunt,They will sit on the ground,et attoniti super repentino casu tuo admirabuntur:and they will wonder with astonishment at your sudden downfall.

et assumentes super te lamentum,And taking up a lamentation over you, dicent tibi:they will say to you:Quomodo peristi,‘How could you have perished,quæ habitas in mari, you who live in the sea, urbs inclyta, the famous city that was strong in the sea,quæ fuisti fortis in mari cum habitatoribus tuis, with your inhabitants, quos formidabant universi?of whom the whole world was in dread?’

Nunc stupebunt naves in die pavoris tui,Now the ships will be stupefied, in the day of your terror.et turbabuntur insulæ in mari,And the islands of the sea will be disturbed,eo quod nullus egrediatur ex te.because no one goes out from you.

Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus:For thus says the Lord God:Cum dedero te urbem desolatam,When I will have made you a desolate city, sicut civitates quæ non habitantur;like the cities that are uninhabited,et adduxero super te abyssum, and when I will have led the abyss over you,et operuerint te aquæ multæ;and many waters will have covered you,

et detraxero te cum his qui descendunt in lacum ad populum sempiternum;and when I will have dragged you down with those who descend into the pit to the everlasting people,et collocavero te in terra novissima sicut solitudines veteres, and when I will have assembled you in the lowest parts of the earth, like the desolate places of antiquity, cum his qui deducuntur in lacum, with those who have been brought down into the pit,ut non habiteris;so that you will be uninhabited, porro cum dedero gloriam in terra viventium:and moreover, when I will have given glory to the land of the living:

in nihilum redigam te,I will reduce you to nothing,et non eris:and you shall not be,et requisita non invenieris ultra in sempiternum, and if you are sought, you will no longer be found, in perpetuity, dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”
