Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man,dic principi Tyri:say to the leader of Tyre:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Eo quod elevatum est cor tuum,Because your heart has been exalted,et dixisti: Deus ego sum,and you have said, ‘I am God,et in cathedra Dei sedi in corde maris, and I sit in the chair of God, in the heart of the sea,’cum sis homo, though you are a man,et non deus: et dedisti cor tuum quasi cor Dei:and not God, and because you have presented your heart as if it were the heart of God:
ecce sapientior es tu Daniele:Behold, you are wiser than Daniel;omne secretum non est absconditum a te:no secret is concealed from you.
in sapientia et prudentia tua fecisti tibi fortitudinem,By your wisdom and prudence, you have made yourself strong,et acquisisti aurum et argentum in thesauris tuis:and you have acquired gold and silver for your storehouses.
in multitudine sapientiæ tuæ,By the multitude of your wisdom,et in negotiatione tua multiplicasti tibi fortitudinem, and by your business dealings, you have multiplied strength for yourself.et elevatum est cor tuum in robore tuo:And your heart has been exalted by your strength.
propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Therefore, thus says the Lord God:Eo quod elevatum est cor tuum quasi cor dei,Because your heart has been exalted as if it were the heart of God,
idcirco ecce ego adducam super te alienos, for this reason, behold, I will lead over you foreigners, robustissimos gentium: et nudabunt gladios suos super pulchritudinem sapientiæ tuæ,the most robust among the Gentiles. And they will bare their swords over the beauty of your wisdom,et polluent decorem tuum.and they will defile your beauty.
Interficient,They will destroy youet detrahent te:and pull you down.et morieris in interitu occisorum in corde maris. And you will die the death of those slain in the heart of the sea.
Numquid dicens loqueris:So then, will you speak,Deus ego sum, coram interficientibus te,in the presence of those who are destroying you,cum sis homo, before the hand of those who are killing you,et non deus, saying, ‘I am God,’in manu occidentium te?though you are a man, and not God?
Morte incircumcisorum morieris in manu alienorum,You will die the death of the uncircumcised at the hand of foreigners.quia ego locutus sum,For I have spoken, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:Fili hominis,“Son of man, leva planctum super regem Tyri, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre,
et dices ei:and you shall say to him:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Tu signaculum similitudinis,You were the seal of similitudes, plenus sapientia, full of wisdomet perfectus decore.and perfect in beauty.
In deliciis paradisi Dei fuisti:You were with the delights of the Paradise of God.omnis lapis pretiosus operimentum tuum,Every precious stone was your covering:sardius, sardius, topazius, topaz,et jaspis, and jasper, chrysolithus, chrysolite,et onyx, and onyx,et beryllus, and beryl, sapphire, sapphirus, and garnet,et carbunculus, and emerald.et smaragdus: aurum, opus decoris tui:The work of your beauty was of gold,et foramina tua, in die qua conditus es, præparata sunt.and your fissures were ready in the day when you were formed.
Tu cherub extentus,You were a cherub,et protegens, stretched out and protecting,et posui te in monte sancto Dei:and I stationed you on the holy mountain of God.in medio lapidum ignitorum ambulasti,You have walked in the midst of stones containing fire.
perfectus in viis tuis a die conditionis tuæ,You were perfect in your ways, from the day of your formation, donec inventa est iniquitas in te.until iniquity was found in you.
In multitudine negotiationis tuæ repleta sunt interiora tua iniquitate,By the multitude of your business dealings, your interior was filled with iniquity,et peccasti:and you sinned.et ejeci te de monte Dei,And I cast you away from the mountain of God,et perdidi te,and I perished you,o cherub protegens, de medio lapidum ignitorum.O protecting cherub, from the midst of the stones containing fire.
Et elevatum est cor tuum in decore tuo;And your heart was exalted by your beauty;perdidisti sapientiam tuam in decore tuo:you have destroyed your own wisdom by your beauty.in terram projeci te;I have cast you to the ground.ante faciem regum dedi te ut cernerent te.I have presented you before the face of kings, so that they may examine you.
In multitudine iniquitatum tuarum,You have defiled your sanctuaries,et iniquitate negotiationis tuæ,by the multitude of your iniquities and by the iniquity of your business dealings.polluisti sanctificationem tuam:Therefore, producam ergo ignem de medio tui,I will produce a fire from your midst, qui comedat te,which will consume you,et dabo te in cinerem super terram, and I will make you into ashes upon the earth,in conspectu omnium videntium te.in the sight of all who are watching you.
Omnes qui viderint te in gentibus,All who gaze upon you among the Gentiles will be stupefied over you.obstupescent super te:You were made out of nothing, nihili factus es,and you shall not be,et non eris in perpetuum.forever.”
Et factus est sermo Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, pone faciem tuam contra Sidonem, set your face against Sidon,et prophetabis de ea:and you shall prophesy about it.
et dices: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:And you shall say: Thus says the Lord God:Ecce ego ad te,Behold, I am against you,Sidon,Sidon,et glorificabor in medio tui:and I will be glorified in your midst.et scient quia ego Dominus,And they shall know that I am the Lord, cum fecero in ea judicia, when I will have executed judgments in her,et sanctificatus fuero in ea.and when I will have been sanctified in her.
Et immittam ei pestilentiam,And I will send a pestilence upon her,et sanguinem in plateis ejus:and there will be blood in her streets.et corruent interfecti in medio ejus gladio per circuitum,And they will fall, slain by the sword, on every side in her midst.et scient quia ego Dominus. And they shall know that I am the Lord.
Et non erit ultra domui Israël offendiculum amaritudinis,And the house of Israel will no longer be a stumbling block of bitterness,et spina dolorem inferens undique per circuitum eorum qui adversantur eis:nor a thorn bringing pain everywhere around them, to those who turn against them.et scient quia ego Dominus Deus. And they shall know that I am the Lord God.”
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Quando congregavero domum Israël de populis in quibus dispersi sunt,“When I will have gathered together the house of Israel, from the peoples among whom they have been dispersed, sanctificabor in eis coram gentibus:I shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the Gentiles.et habitabunt in terra sua,And they shall live in their own land, quam dedi servo meo Jacob:which I gave to my servant Jacob.
et habitabunt in ea securi,And they shall live within it securely.et ædificabunt domos,And they shall build houseset plantabunt vineas, and plant vineyards.et habitabunt confidenter,And they shall live in confidence, cum fecero judicia in omnibus qui adversantur eis per circuitum:when I will have executed judgments upon all those who turn against them on every side.et scient quia ego Dominus Deus eorum. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God.”
