Et factum est verbum Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:
Fili hominis,“Son of man, propheta de pastoribus Israël:prophesy about the shepherds of Israel.propheta,Prophesy,et dices pastoribus: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:and you shall say to the shepherds: Thus says the Lord God:Væ pastoribus Israël, qui pascebant semetipsos!Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves!nonne greges a pastoribus pascuntur?Should not the flocks be fed by the shepherds?
Lac comedebatis,You consumed the milk,et lanis operiebamini, and you covered yourselves with the wool,et quod crassum erat occidebatis:and you killed what was fattened.gregem autem meum non pascebatis. But my flock you did not feed.
Quod infirmum fuit non consolidastis,What was weak, you have not strengthened,et quod ægrotum non sanastis:and what was sick, you have not healed.quod confractum est non alligastis,What was broken, you have not bound,et quod abjectum est non reduxistis, and what was cast aside, you have not led back again,et quod perierat non quæsistis:and what was lost, you have not sought.sed cum austeritate imperabatis eis, et cum potentia.Instead, you ruled over them with severity and with power.
Et dispersæ sunt oves meæ,And my sheep were scattered,eo quod non esset pastor:because there was no shepherd.et factæ sunt in devorationem omnium bestiarum agri,And they became devoured by all the wild beasts of the field,et dispersæ sunt.and they were dispersed.
Erraverunt greges mei in cunctis montibus,My sheep have wandered to every mountainet in universo colle excelso:and to every exalted hill.et super omnem faciem terræ dispersi sunt greges mei,And my flocks have been scattered across the face of the earth.et non erat qui requireret:And there was no one who sought them;non erat, there was no one, inquam,I say,qui requireret.who sought them.
Propterea,Because of this, pastores,O shepherds, audite verbum Domini.listen to the word of the Lord:
Vivo ego,As I live, dicit Dominus Deus, says the Lord God,quia pro eo quod facti sunt greges mei in rapinam, since my flocks have become a prey,et oves meæ in devorationem omnium bestiarum agri, and my sheep have been devoured by all the wild beasts of the field,eo quod non esset pastor:since there was no shepherd, neque enim quæsierunt pastores mei gregem meum, for my shepherds did not seek my flock, sed pascebant pastores semetipsos, but instead the shepherds fed themselves,et greges meos non pascebant:and they did not feed my flocks:
propterea, because of this, pastores,O shepherds, audite verbum Domini.listen to the word of the Lord:
Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God: Behold,Ecce ego ipse super pastores:I myself will be over the shepherds.requiram gregem meum de manu eorum,I will require my flock at their hand,et cessare faciam eos,and I will cause them to cease,ut ultra non pascant gregem,so that they no longer refrain from feeding the flock.nec pascant amplius pastores semetipsos:Neither will the shepherds feed themselves any more.et liberabo gregem meum de ore eorum,And I will deliver my flock from their mouth;et non erit ultra eis in escam.and it will no longer be food for them.
Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus:For thus says the Lord God: Behold,Ecce ego ipse requiram oves meas, et visitabo eas.I myself will seek my sheep, and I myself will visit them.
Sicut visitat pastor gregem suum,Just as a shepherd visits his flock,in die quando fuerit in medio ovium suarum dissipatarum,in the day when he will be in the midst of his sheep that were scattered, sic visitabo oves meas,so will I visit my sheep.et liberabo eas de omnibus locis in quibus dispersæ fuerant in die nubis et caliginis. And I will deliver them from all the places to which they had been scattered in the day of gloom and darkness.
Et educam eas de populis,And I will lead them away from the peoples,et congregabo eas de terris, and I will gather them from the lands,et inducam eas in terram suam, and I will bring them into their own land.et pascam eas in montibus Israël,And I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel,in rivis,by the rivers,et in cunctis sedibus terræ.and in all the settlements of the land.
In pascuis uberrimis pascam eas,I will feed them in very fertile pastures,et in montibus excelsis Israël erunt pascua earum:and their pastures will be on the lofty mountains of Israel.ibi requiescent in herbis virentibus,There they will rest on the green grass,et in pascuis pinguibus pascentur super montes Israël.and they will be fed in the fat pastures, on the mountains of Israel.
Ego pascam oves meas,I will feed my sheep,et ego eas accubare faciam, and I will cause them to lie down, dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.
Quod perierat requiram,I will seek what had been lost.et quod abjectum erat reducam,And I will lead back again what had been cast aside.et quod confractum fuerat alligabo,And I will bind up what had been broken.et quod infirmum fuerat consolidabo,And I will strengthen what had been infirm.et quod pingue et forte custodiam:And I will preserve what was fat and strong.et pascam illas in judicio. And I will feed them on judgment.
Vos autem,But as for you, greges mei,O my flocks,hæc dicit Dominus Deus:thus says the Lord God:Ecce ego judico inter pecus et pecus,Behold, I judge between cattle and cattle, arietum et hircorum.among rams and among he-goats.
Nonne satis vobis erat pascua bona depasci? Was it not enough for you to feed upon good pastures?insuper et reliquias pascuarum vestrarum conculcastis pedibus vestris:For you even trample with your feet upon the remainder of your pastures.et cum purissimam aquam biberetis,And when you drank the purist water, reliquam pedibus vestris turbabatis:you disturbed the remainder with your feet.
et oves meæ his quæ conculcata pedibus vestris fuerant, pascebantur:And my sheep were pastured from what you had trampled with your feet,et quæ pedes vestri turbaverant, hæc bibebant.and they drank from what your feet had disturbed.
Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus ad vos:Because of this, thus says the Lord God to you:Ecce ego ipse judico inter pecus pingue et macilentum:Behold, I myself am judging between the fat cattle and the lean.
pro eo quod lateribus et humeris impingebatis,For you have pushed with your sides and shoulders,et cornibus vestris ventilabatis omnia infirma pecora, and you have threatened all the weak cattle with your horns, donec dispergerentur foras, until they were scattered abroad.
salvabo gregem meum,I will save my flock,et non erit ultra in rapinam, and it will no longer be a prey,et judicabo inter pecus et pecus.and I will judge between cattle and cattle.
Et suscitabo super eas pastorem unum qui pascat eas,And I will raise up over them ONE SHEPHERD, who will feed them, servum meum David: ipse pascet eas,my servant David. He himself will feed them,et ipse erit eis in pastorem.and he will be their shepherd.
Ego autem Dominus ero eis in Deum,And I, the Lord, will be their God.et servus meus David princeps in medio eorum:And my servant David will be the leader in their midst.ego Dominus locutus sum.I, the Lord, have spoken.
Et faciam cum eis pactum pacis,And I will make a covenant of peace with them.et cessare faciam bestias pessimas de terra:And I will cause the very harmful beasts to cease from the land.et qui habitant in deserto, securi dormient in saltibus. And those who are living in the desert will sleep securely in the forests.
Et ponam eos in circuitu collis mei benedictionem,And I will make them a blessing all around my hill.et deducam imbrem in tempore suo:And I will send the rain in due time;pluviæ benedictionis erunt.there will be showers of blessing.
Et dabit lignum agri fructum suum,And the tree of the field will yield its fruit,et terra dabit germen suum, and the land will yield its crop.et erunt in terra sua absque timore:And they will be in their own land without fear.et scient quia ego Dominus,And they shall know that I am the Lord, cum contrivero catenas jugi eorum, when I will have crushed the chains of their yoke,et eruero eos de manu imperantium sibi.and when I will have rescued them from the hand of those who rule over them.
Et non erunt ultra in rapinam in gentibus,And they will no longer be a prey to the Gentiles, neque bestiæ terræ devorabunt eos:nor will the wild beasts of the earth devour them.sed habitabunt confidenter absque ullo terrore.Instead, they will live in confidence without any terror.
Et suscitabo eis germen nominatum,And I will raise up for them a renowned branch.et non erunt ultra imminuti fame in terra,And they will be no longer be diminished by famine in the land, neque portabunt ultra opprobrium gentium.nor will they carry any longer the reproach of the Gentiles.
Et scient quia ego Dominus Deus eorum cum eis,And they shall know that I, the Lord their God, am with them,et ipsi populus meus domus Israël,and that they are my people, the house of Israel, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.
Vos autem, greges mei,For you are my flocks;greges pascuæ meæ, homines estis:the flocks of my pasture are men.et ego Dominus Deus vester,And I am the Lord your God,dicit Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”
