Tu autem,“But as for you, fili hominis, son of man, propheta super montes Israël,prophesy over the mountains of Israel,et dices:and you shall say:Montes Israël,O mountains of Israel, audite verbum Domini.listen to the word of the Lord.

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Eo quod dixerit inimicus de vobis:Because the enemy has said about you:Euge,‘It is well!altitudines sempiternæ in hæreditatem datæ sunt nobis:The everlasting heights have been given to us as an inheritance!’

propterea vaticinare, because of this,et dic:prophesy and say:Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Pro eo quod desolati estis,Because you have been made desolate,et conculcati per circuitum, and you have been trampled on every side,et facti in hæreditatem reliquis gentibus, and you have been made into an inheritance for the remainder of the nations,et ascendistis super labium linguæand because you rose up,et opprobrium populi, over the tip of the tongue and over the shame of the people,

propterea, because of this, montes Israël,O mountains of Israel, audite verbum Domini Dei.listen to the word of the Lord God.Hæc dicit Dominus Deus montibus et collibus,Thus says the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, torrentibus,to the torrents, vallibusque et desertis, and to the valleys, and to the deserts, parietinis et urbibus derelictis, and to the ruins, and to the forsaken cities,quæ depopulatæ sunt et subsannatæ a reliquis gentibus per circuitum.which have been depopulated and ridiculed by the remainder of the nations all around:

Propterea hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Because of this, thus says the Lord God:Quoniam in igne zeli mei locutus sum de reliquis gentibus,In the fire of my zeal, I have spoken about the remainder of the nations,et de Idumæa universa, and about all of Idumea,quæ dederunt terram meam sibi in hæreditatem cum gaudio, who have given my land to themselves, joyfully, as an inheritance,et toto corde et ex animo, and with all the heart and mind,et ejecerunt eam ut vastarent:and who have cast it out, so that they may lay waste to it.

idcirco vaticinare super humum Israël,Therefore, prophesy over the soil of Israel,et dices montibus et collibus, and you shall say to the mountains, jugis et vallibus:and to the hills,Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:to the ridges, and to the valleys:Ecce ego in zelo meo et in furore meo locutus sum,Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I have spoken in my zeal and in my fury,eo quod confusionem gentium sustinueritis.because you have endured the shame of the Gentiles.

Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Therefore, thus says the Lord God:Ego levavi manum meam,I have lifted up my hand,ut gentes quæ in circuitu vestro sunt,so that the Gentiles, who are all around you, ipsæ confusionem suam portent.will themselves bear their shame.

Vos autem,But as for you, montes Israël,O mountains of Israel, ramos vestros germinetis, spring forth your branches,et fructum vestrum afferatis populo meo Israël:and bear your fruit, to my people Israel.prope enim est ut veniat. For they are close to their advent.

Quia ecce ego ad vos,For behold, I am for you,et convertar ad vos:and I will turn to you,et arabimini, and you will be plowed,et accipietis sementem.and you will receive seed.

Et multiplicabo in vobis homines,And I will multiply men among youomnemque domum Israël:and among all the house of Israel.et habitabuntur civitates,And the cities shall be inhabited,et ruinosa instaurabuntur.and the ruinous places shall be restored.

Et replebo vos hominibus et jumentis,And I will fill you again with men and with cattle.et multiplicabuntur,And they will be multiplied,et crescent:and they will increase.et habitare vos faciam sicut a principio,And I will cause you to live as from the beginning, bonisque donabo majoribus quam habuistis ab initio:and I will give you even greater gifts than those you had from the start.et scietis quia ego Dominus. And you shall know that I am the Lord.

Et adducam super vos homines,And I will lead men over you, populum meum Israël,over my people Israel,et hæreditate possidebunt te:and they will possess you as an inheritance.et eris eis in hæreditatem,And you shall be to them as an inheritance.et non addes ultra ut absque eis sis.And you shall no longer be permitted to be without them.

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Pro eo quod dicunt de vobis:Because they are saying about you,Devoratrix hominum es,‘You are a woman who devours men,et suffocans gentem tuam:and you are strangling your own nation,’

propterea homines non comedes amplius, because of this, you shall no longer consume men,et gentem tuam non necabis ultra, and you shall no longer harm your own nation, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.

Nec auditam faciam in te amplius confusionem gentium,Neither will I permit men to discover in you the shame of the Gentiles any more.et opprobrium populorum nequaquam portabis:And you shall never again bear the reproach of the peoples.et gentem tuam non amittes amplius,And you shall not send your people away any more, ait Dominus Deus.says the Lord God.”

Et factum est verbum Domini ad me,And the word of the Lord came to me,dicens:saying:

Fili hominis,“Son of man, domus Israël habitaverunt in humo sua,the house of Israel lived on their own soil,et polluerunt eam in viis suis et in studiis suis:and they defiled it with their ways and with their intentions.juxta immunditiam menstruatæ facta est via eorum coram me.Their way, in my sight, became like the uncleanness of a menstruous woman.

Et effudi indignationem meam super eos pro sanguine quem fuderunt super terram,And so I poured out my indignation upon them, because of the blood which they shed upon the land,et in idolis suis polluerunt eam.and because they defiled it with their idols.

Et dispersi eos in gentes,And I dispersed them among the Gentiles,et ventilati sunt in terras:and they have been scattered among the lands.juxta vias eorum et adinventiones eorum judicavi eos.I have judged them according to their ways and their plans.

Et ingressi sunt ad gentes ad quas introierunt:And when they walked among the Gentiles, to whom they had entered,et polluerunt nomen sanctum meum, cum diceretur de eis:they defiled my holy name, though it was being said about them:Populus Domini iste est,‘This is the people of the Lord,’et de terra ejus egressi sunt.and ‘They went forth from his land.’

Et peperci nomini sancto meo,But I have spared my holy name, quod polluerat domus Israël in gentibus ad quas ingressi sunt.which the house of Israel has defiled among the Gentiles, to whom they entered.

Idcirco dices domui Israël: Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:For this reason, you shall say to the house of Israel:Non propter vos ego faciam,Thus says the Lord God: I will act, domus Israël,not for your sake, sed propter nomen sanctum meum,O house of Israel, but for the sake of my holy name, quod polluistis in gentibus ad quas intrastis.which you have defiled among the Gentiles, to whom you entered.

Et sanctificabo nomen meum magnum quod pollutum est inter gentes,And I will sanctify my great name, which was defiled among the Gentiles, quod polluistis in medio earum:which you have defiled in their midst.ut sciant gentes quia ego Dominus,So may the Gentiles know that I am the Lord, ait Dominus exercituum, says the Lord of hosts, cum sanctificatus fuero in vobis coram eis.when I will have been sanctified in you, before their eyes.

Tollam quippe vos de gentibus,Certainly, I will take you away from the Gentiles,et congregabo vos de universis terris, and I will gather you together from all the lands,et adducam vos in terram vestram.and I will lead you into your own land.

Et effundam super vos aquam mundam,And I will pour clean water over you,et mundabimini ab omnibus inquinamentis vestris, and you shall be cleansed from all your filth,et ab universis idolis vestris mundabo vos.and I will cleanse you from all your idols.

Et dabo vobis cor novum,And I will give to you a new heart,et spiritum novum ponam in medio vestri:and I will place in you a new spirit.et auferam cor lapideum de carne vestra,And I will take away the heart of stone from your body,et dabo vobis cor carneum.and I will give to you a heart of flesh.

Et spiritum meum ponam in medio vestri:And I will place my Spirit in your midst.et faciam ut in præceptis meis ambuletis,And I will act so that you may walk in my precepts and keep my judgments,et judicia mea custodiatis et operemini.and so that you may fulfill them.

Et habitabitis in terra quam dedi patribus vestris:And you shall live in the land that I gave to your fathers.et eritis mihi in populum,And you shall be my people,et ego ero vobis in Deum.and I will be your God.

Et salvabo vos ex universis inquinamentis vestris:And I will save you from all your filth.et vocabo frumentumAnd I will call for grain,et multiplicabo illud, and I will multiply it,et non imponam vobis famem.and I will not impose a famine upon you.

Et multiplicabo fructum ligni,And I will multiply the fruit of the treeet genimina agri, and the produce of the field,ut non portetis ultra opprobrium famis in gentibus.so that you may no longer bear the disgrace of famine among the nations.

Et recordabimini viarum vestrarum pessimarum,And you shall remember your very wicked ways and your intentions, studiorumque non bonorum:which were not good.et displicebunt vobis iniquitates vestræ et scelera vestra. And you will be displeased by your own iniquities and your own crimes.

Non propter vos ego faciam,It is not for your sakes that I will act,ait Dominus Deus, says the Lord God;notum sit vobis:let this be known to you.confundimini,Be confoundedet erubescite super viis vestris, and ashamed over your own ways, domus Israël.O house of Israel.

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:In die qua mundavero vos ex omnibus iniquitatibus vestris,In the day when I will have cleansed you from all your iniquities,et inhabitari fecero urbes, and when I will have caused the cities to be inhabited,et instauravero ruinosa, and when I will have restored the ruinous places,

et terra deserta fuerit exculta, and when the deserted land will have been cultivated,quæ quondam erat desolata in oculis omnis viatoris, which previously was desolate to the eyes of all who passed by,

dicent:then they shall say:Terra illa inculta facta est ut hortus voluptatis:‘This uncultivated land has become a garden of delight,et civitates desertæ,and the cities,et destitutæ atque suffossæ,which were deserted and destitute and overturned, munitæ sederunt.have been settled and fortified.’

Et scient gentes quæcumque derelictæ fuerint in circuitu vestro,And the Gentiles, those who remain around you, shall know that I,quia ego Dominus ædificavi dissipata, the Lord, have built up what was destroyed, plantavique inculta:and have planted what was uncultivated. I,ego Dominus locutus sim, et fecerim.the Lord, have spoken and acted.

Hæc dicit Dominus Deus:Thus says the Lord God:Adhuc in hoc invenient me domus Israël,Even in this time, the house of Israel shall find me,ut faciam eis: multiplicabo eos sicut gregem hominum,so that I may act for them. I will multiply them like a flock of men,

ut gregem sanctum, like a holy flock,ut gregem Jerusalem in solemnitatibus ejus:like the flock of Jerusalem in her solemnities.sic erunt civitates desertæ, plenæ gregibus hominum:So shall the deserted cities be filled with flocks of men.et scient quia ego Dominus. And they shall know that I am the Lord.”
